    I came for the lift kit, and stayed for mud flinging, sling kinging. Those blue links must be waterproof, cool!

      Do you plan on building one of these to crawl? i was really looking forward to seeing what the TRX4 Sport can do after losing all the Gimmicky stuff and modding for the rocks or trails.

    Hey Harley, if you're going to show the running / mudding, you absolutely have to show us the cleanup afterwards as well, and give us some detail on why you hate it so much :)

    I agree with your repulsion to mud, in any 'scale'. It looks great. Prolly make a great little 'trail truck with all that ground clearance and knarly tires.

    I'm not much into monster trucks, I like scalers and desert rat racers but I have to admit this looks awesome and the kit is very well done. Thanks for showing it.

    I liked the trx4 sport sense i first saw it on one the unboxing video's and when it was first previewed.
    Adding the lift kit in my opinion makes it look sick. Like the bigger wheels on this.
    I'm from the era when big foot first came onto the seen; really liked it and still think it is a great monster truck

    When I built my Wraith Spawn kit, I intended it to be a sort of mega truck, using the RC4WD Mud Basher 2.2’s, because of all the steep hills and soft soil in the woods at my in-laws’ place. I often felt a Traxxas Summit would have been applicable, as well, since they seem to designed for general open forest trail-bashing. Maybe that’s what a TRX-4 Lift Kit setup would be most applicable to, for those who explore woodland trails, loaded with muddy bogs and streams(i.e. Most of the trails you see in RC ATHLETES‘ vids), but want a more scale truck, as opposed to a bulky Summit. I might actually devote my Bronco pre-roller to that, when we get into our PNW wet, winter season. The clearance will help keep the chassis, itself, from getting too soiled. 🤓

    "Lift kits could possibly be useful in mud" he said. WHAT!?!? Down here in Georgia, lift kits are mud kings. They let you fit the tractor tires and have the baddest ride around! Lift kits are the best thing since sliced bread!

    I understand you’re going for a mud truck style, but there’s a couple things you can do to get the lift kit to work well for you.
    First thing you want to do it remove the bump stops from the shocks so you can get the full stroke, then when you put them back together, you want to have a weaker spring. Doing this will give you some droop, and also allow for a little more suspension movement.
    Next thing you want to do it get some brass portal housings. This will lower your cog down some.
    Last, forget the 2.2, they just hit the body and get in the way. Stick with a good tire that fits in the fenders.
    I did these changes to my trx4 and it works great.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless it’s for a mud truck I’d never use a lift kit. The COG of the TRX is already too high. For a mud truck, this setup does work well though and is a cool option.

    That looks GOOD Josh!! 👍👍😎 That Sport is actually making me want to get a TRX-4!! 😱 I swore I'd never touch one of those grossly overpriced Fan-Boy Rigs.... But THIS isn't one of those!! No gimmicks or Gizmos, just a good honest Truck, where gratefully, they left the Portal Axles!!! 😎😎👏👏👏👏 More importantly, I MAY actually be able to afford one.
    I like the Lift Kit! Looks like practically ANY "Good Ole Boy's" Truck. You'll find Thousands of them from Texas to Florida!! Like you, I prefer proper Handling and as low a CG as I can get....
    But c'mon man.... Everyone needs at least ONE of those!!

    Agree with your opinion of the lift kit.. not very practical for anything other than a giant mud truck.. but hey just wanted to say I can't wait to see the cross truck you got ..I hope hope hope it's the demon because I have been thinking about getting that truck but have been second guessing just due to some of the ways it drives .. I'm really looking forward to your opinion of the truck.. it doesn't have to be the next best thing but as long as it can be modified and changed a bit to negate some of the issues I feel I saw I will be happy. Thanks so kich

      I got mine yesterday and it will be awhile before I start building it, too many other projects on the table at the moment.
      Things I noticed as I inventoried the box; its going to be a slightly top heavy rig, battery compartment is oddly sized and I am one that likes to at least go an hour without swapping, so will be extending the compartment. Tires are a little bigger than specs listed, 115mm I measured 118.
      Probably going to go brushless (HH Stubby) to get some more wheel speed on it.
      Not a lot of flex in the plastic, much less than like the Axial stuff, more like MST.. a little concerning for sub freezing days and taking a tumble.
      Its going to look great, just don't think its going to be one of my better performers till maybe some mods come out.

  • @feellnfroggy
    @feellnfroggy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The purpose of a lift kit is for clearing tires. Ground clearance comes from tires truly. It has a side purpose of reducing drag in mudholes. But either way, lift is only need as far as its purpose. Long arm lift kits are mildly different. They are necessary for increased travel and flex. But with lockers and locking differentials, it is less necessary.

  • @WomackKP
    @WomackKP 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah people don't use a drill to add or remove your screws. This heats the plastic and melts the threads slightly each time you run the screw in and out.
    Just a few times in and out and you'll have weakened threads, or even worse threads that won't tighten down at all.
    I have Twenty five years of rc experience and I have tried everything to make building and repairing easier. I have found that using anything other than a manual hand driver turns the threads. Also this is a good time to warn you about used RC's. Alot of times guys will own a car for one or two years, repair it a few times and realize they have ruined most of the threads. They then sell the RC because they know it's a lost cause at this point.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re using a model with low quality plastic or plastic or non-nylon like plastic than that is valid. However if you’re using a model with glass filled nylon especially, the heat created by a screw will not exceed to heat capability of the plastic. The most common issue with people using power tools is not using a chuck and over tightening.

      The thing that many people don’t realize that you don’t want more flex for performance in the rocks.
