I was told back then that the Ogoni 4 were dining with the government, receiving all the contracts, and enjoying the benefits of the land while the rest of the Ogonis were suffering. So, it was more about the rage of the poor against the rich, who were seen as 'presumed traitors.' Have you wondered why people did not come to their rescue when this was happening if they were truly upright with their people? Only God knows.
I feel ur pain bro so sorry. One evil thing i noticed about my country Nigeria is how easily people especially gullible ones can be manipulated using propaganda. All evil committed on Nigeria soil from the civil war to date is based on pure propagandas nothing solid or concrete sad.. God help us all .
We can't blame this man throwing Ken under the bus here. If my father was killed in a wrongful manner ( regardless of what transpired), I wouldn't come on air and praise his killers. But that doesn't mean that I believe all that he's saying. Please let the peace reign.
The man spoke the truth of what happened, sadly propagandists masquerading as activists emasculate the truth and manipulate public opinions. The truth of that story is well known in Ogoni land. Despite the cascade of seeming peace in Ogoni land promoted by liars, Ogoni is acrimoniously divided between these two groups of Ogoni 4 and Ogoni 9. As the saying goes, 'conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it'; until those responsible for the death of the Ogoni 4 own up to their dastardly fratricidal abomination, Ogoni land will never heal for generations to come. It is very sad watching someone come to the national television to sprew lies about an obvious truth about his own people without a prick of conscience of the feelings of the relatives of the murdered, simply because they want to make money from the blood of the dead.
But everything he's saying is what actually happened on that day. There's stronger evidence for his story than what he is saying here. Many Ogonis know this, but they want to preserve the hero status of Saro Wiwa.
Maybe Abacha set it up, we really don’t know! And the fact that no dictator works alone, they know are to write the script, and make things work out the way they want! It’s just the way of evil! So, i don’t think he saying the whole truth (what if his Father was working with Shell to exploit his people?)!
The whole niger delta. The whole business. Greed, evil unfortunately have taken the better of us Nigerians as a whole . No one is actually fighting for the greater good of everyone but for individual gains. Niger deltans are being used by the cabal, by the government, by oil companies to suppress and oppress their own.
Ken Saro Wiwa was the originator of militancy of today. Tge Militancy was for thier pockets never for the good of Ogoni. He over stepped his boundaries and today, we know the Uncontrolled Lords today. Ogoni is a mini Nigeria. And we have too much of ogoni stories scattered everywhere
Saro Wiwa was the one who said that Ojukwu deserved to be executed for declaring the state of Biafra. Barely six months after Saro Wiwa himself was hanged for murder by his Hausa/Fulani allies. Quite ironic considering the turn out of events
Here's a gap...the soldiers stopped Ken from entering Gokana, and right there Ken addressed the mob. The soldiers then stood by and watched the mob move to Giokoo where the Ogoni 4 were killed while Ken was still prevented from entering Gokana. I understand the pain of losing one's Dad but i am still struggling to connect these dots.
I heard that part too and I share in your concern but it looks like after the soldiers stopped him from entering the community, he stood right there to address his mob.
Even I would do exactly what he's doing if my father's name is in the mud as a traitor. Wether he's saying the truth or not, he's serving the right and interest of his last name. But most importantly, the land (just like everywhere in Nigeria) needs healing. Justice and peace must reign.
@torksaromuelley6511 Well, everyone has his own version of the truth because we have failed as a nation to properly document history. The nation venerates Ken Saro Wiwa, but here's a "truth" calling him a murderer. No advance country has such mixed report of their heroes' past.
@Mr.BeejayTVe The nation doesn't know what transpired in Ogoni under Mosop and NYCOP and Saro Wiwa's leadership. I'm sure the nation also venerates Murtala Mohammed who came in and destroyed modern Nigeria but is hailed as a hero today. People will do well to listen to those who witnessed the crisis first-hand.
That's why I said we have failed as a nation to document history in its truest form, and that gives room to inaccuracies and distortions where everyone claims his side is the truth. We venerate the villains, and the actual heroes remain unsung because the history got lost or reconstructed somewhere along and in-between.
This is a story of one whose father was killed. Therefore, the truth would be a narrative from one who were loyal to the military government then. This looks to me like a reported speech.
This is just some hidden part of the stroy that the world dont really know of. Ken saro wiwa was never a saint but rose to fame because he was a writer. Many pple in ogoni dont see him as their hero just like this man who like he said saw his father butchered under the authorization of ken saro wiwa. Some many igbos sees ojukwu as a hero and loved him while the family of ifeajuna and the rest sees him as a demon.
I sincerely sympathise with this man, however, he has ended up muddling the story. He stated that he was a witness to crime against his father and the 3 others, but along the lines, he has mentioned "them say, them say" which renders his testimony questionable/invalid. We need true eyewitnesses to unravel this mystery so the Ogoni people will heal😢
The question is, why was the junta so in haste or quick to execute Ken Saro-Wiwa in the most brutal manner possible. Was it because the junta saw him as a threat to his government? Because it was Ken Saro-Wiwa who first highlighted the injustice done to his community by the Shell Company and the government to the world. Also, could it be that your father and the rest were in support of the junta? Because the circumstances surrounding your father’s death gave the junta an alibi to quickly silence Ken Sao-Wiwa once and for all. Moreover, was Ken Saro-Wiwa in the scene of the massacre? Also, was there any evidence that he ordered the killings of those individuals, and including your father? Also, could it be that the evidence was merely based on hearsay? Secondly, why did the junta use military tribunal to prosecute him and sentenced him to death when he was not a military officer? Was there no judicial system in the country to prosecute him? These are salient questions that deserve answers. Don’t misunderstand me I don’t support barbarism or anything lawlessness. Therefore, may their souls rest in peace. But I am simply curious as to the true evidence that warranted the junta to kill Ken Saro-Wiwa in such brutal manner.
It's obvious you think independently. I had these questions as well. Saro wiwa fought the government for an injustice to his people. the whole world saw that that trial or whatever that was was a hoax. Today the injustice in Ogoni land has still not been really remedied but at least everyone has agreed there was injustice. It was Saro wiwa who made the people of Niger Delta wake up. At least a few of them. sadly those few are no different from the leaders they fought against. All of them just dey share and waste everything. When the militants fought the government, one would have thought they would insist on good roads, the best schools for free that would compete with any school in the world, the best hospitals, factories to employ their people but them collect money share shut up. Bettering Nigeria is an inter generational task. sadly all the generations from 1970 has failed very woefully. both the leaders and the followers.
This story has been told over and over again but most people were fixated on Ken Sarowiwa and his activism. During the formative years of MOSOP, Ken was just a public relations officer or publicity secretary of the association by virtue of his clout as an international writer to help promote the ideals of the association. Like everything human, he began to exalt himself above the leaders and elders of his people and deviated from the goals of the association. Not done, he broke away and formed the NYCOP( national youth council of Ogoni people), the militant wing of MOSOP which was the mastermind of the murder of the Ogoni 4. His trial and execution had nothing to do with his activism, but with his role in the dead of the Ogoni 4.
@EmiyareyJohn-qu9cr I refuse to align myself with your conclusion. I was living in Rivers State (Okrika) and my classmate, a teacher at GSS, Onne, hailed from Bodo City. Ken was killed for vicarious association. Abacha saw him as a thorn in the flesh that had to be removed. The 4 were in cahoot with the government and that was an open secret. Unfortunately the Ogoni nation lost too many brilliant people.
I understand the pain of Suage Badey. I recall those events and it was a sad time for the Ogoni people. However, it's hard to say if Ken Saro-Wiwa clearly instigated the mob to go attack the Ogoni 4, though I know that there were squabbles and mistrust between the Ogoni elite. We know that apart from the Ogoni 9, no one from the mob that actually carried out the killing were ever arrested or convicted. Gen. Abacha saw it as an opportunity to eliminate the thorns which were KSW and his group, hence no right to appeal was granted.
Hmmmmm I've never heard this before......... I was a child when all this happened. About 10 years old, 213 years old. All I heard on the news, and from everyone around me ,was that Ken saroviwa Was a hero killed by Sani abacha....I watched the news but I never understood.... wow there are always 2 sides to a story.
Nigerian don't like to speak on issues that have happened or settle it for real. We always like to move on, thinking everything will just die down, the pain and feelings will keep growing. For 30 years, no governor has apologized to the family, Just We are Sorry, everything will end, but we will keep quiet thinking it ends like that, no oh... two wrong can't make right, apologize to the first 4 that was killed cus no one has right to take others life and follow up with the 9 and so on. Let peace reign in Ogoniand environs
Even i would do exactly what he's doing if my father's name is in the mud as a traitor. Wether he's saying the truth or not, he's serving the right and interest of his last name.
Late ken saro wiwa partook and alligned himself with the nigeria government during the genocidal war against biafra. He also benefited from the abandoned properties after the war, hence he was greeted with good morning by Late eternal leader of biafra when he seeks for his assistant during his ordeal
Nigeria begins and end with Biafra... you guys are so pathetic, there was a war and in war people die and lives lost on both side...wipe your tears and move on
What has that got to do with the issues being discussed? You gotta be much more emotionally mature. Stop letting your own personal emotions prejudge facts
Let the Hausa people canonise him in Islamic. He betrayed the Biafra and the north did not spare him. Ojukwu met him in prison and told him “Good morning “ Saro wiwa killed all his kinsmen who never supported his unbridled ambition. The oil you thought will flow for your progress hence keep the Igbo people out, is still flowing from your land to the north and your people not owing an oil well but oil devastated environment. You can’t mock Igbo people and progress.
Even though the Igbos are a far more heterogenous group, they seem to be far more traitorous to themselves than the Ogoni are to themselves. But I constantly see that strong propensity to self-destruction and retrogressiveness among black people all over the world.
Ironic and ogonis to kill their kinsmen no matter the offence is barbaric and unacceptable! however, with what has happened since 1999 till date, it has shown that there is no difference between military attitude to governance from the so called civilian democracy worse things are happening now
People in the comment section would rather take side and attack violently the other side, instead of listening and learning from our sad and bloody history. I bet most commentators here actually know less than they think they do about this case
Obviously, Saro committed those offences of the 4 as they were perceived to him as betrayal of there struggle 🤷🏼♂️. Big lessons for many today who has a brain to ponder! Those who just act irrationally and criminally in the name of struggle for something they will claim is fight for there right/fair course A lot of healing and reconciliation has to be done, and also, truth be told, Saro in his struggle can't be exonorated like he did nothing wrong in the course (like the killing of those 4). Many Nigerians just like to be unnecessarily emotional many times rather than be realistic. As much as Saro will be said to have been struggling for something good, his wrong must be well spelt out as well. Is he the Government? that in the name of struggle, something like that will be done. Let's call a spade a spade. How can this Man here heal from that? What a tragedy 🤦... 🇳🇬 God Bless Nigeria 🇳🇬
This man is traumatized and this is understandable. This man said he was an eye witness to the murder of ogoni 4 but no where did he place Saro Wiwa at the scene of the murder. The interview is useless
This is just one side of the story. There’s also the account of witnesses who claimed they were paid to lie against Ken. Why did his father say that Saro-Wiwa intended to kill him? Before drawing conclusions and judging the deceased, we need to remain objective. Would it have been wise for Ken to kill these elders, especially knowing the General was looking for an excuse to seize him? These are among the many questions that must be considered.
If Abacha was actually looking for him, he played himself into the hand of Abacha with this incident. The whole truth about this Ogoni saga has not really been told, but truth no matter how long it is suppressed will one day come to light. What actually happened was that this incident coincidentally happened during the June 12 imbroglio, and politicians were desperately seeking for any weapon to fight Abacha, hence they downplayed the murder of the Ogoni 4, and propagated the trial and execution of Ken Sarowiwa to the International community as evidence of human rights abuse and clampdown on human rights activists by Abacha and the military. The gruesome murder of the Ogoni leaders, more prominent in Rivers state at that time than Ken Sarowiwa, was .relegated to the background. It is indeed a sad story of how politicians and so called activists can manipulate and emasculate the truth.
This why as a country we should be careful of all these so-called human rights activists. And Charles seems to be dismissing the gentleman’s story, the fact that he was a journalist doesn't mean he can’t commit a crime. The government should publish his trials for all to see. Thank you AriseTv for this
Yes oh, my brother or sister, it's the whole truth, and until our people accept this truth and apologize and confess to God, we won't have peace and unity and progress in Ogoni. Saro Wiwa started well with love for our people, but ended up destroying the very people he said he loved. It was like darkness descended on his soul.
Either way one looked at the situation, the Ogonis were the loosers. Both the 4 and the 9 were some of their brightest. And I also believed that the Nigerian government had a hand on that. They sacrificed the 4 to get at the 8 and some other prominent Ogoni people
He said he was an eyes witness, and at the same time, he said they came home to call him that his father is beating. Maybe his father was among the people who collaborated with illegal deals going on then in ogoni
He was right. Truth is Saro Wiwa incited mobs aganst those 4. Hence we should be careful when we do all this aluta thing. Those people were not given chance to appeal.
The pain this man feels seems to drive him to demonize Ken. While Ken may have incited the mob, it's unlikely he intended for anyone to be lynched-that would have been a foolish move, even if he sought fame. Ken fought for an entirely just cause. Did he make mistakes? Certainly! Controlling a mob once it's incited is no easy task. Hence the murder.
Ken Saro-Wiwa was not even anywhere near Gokana. One of the 4 chiefs killed was Ken's inlaw. All these lies are coming up because Tinubu said he wants to exonerate Ken Saro-Wiwa
He wasn't there. But he incited them. You do a research about the story. In lie always do things within the law, inciting mob against people is wrong because with time one will lose control of that group. And should anything happen, you the leader would be culpable. Same thing happened to Yussuf and Boko Haram.
He addressed the crowd when he claims the army asked him to turn back on the road? Was the crowd on the road? And the military permitted him to address a crowd under such condition? Lies that don't make sense
This guy is actually looking for attention of the oppressor in the country. And mine you he stay underground for over 30 years before coming to talk this nonsense that he was paid for..i understand when you have a bad father who's using public money to feed his family just to stay rich Kamar will come
Ken led over 3000 to Dead in cause of that struggle aside from that what good did bring to the ogoni people? The only polytechnic in OGONI LAND till date was built by his father, the 4 local government ogoni have today was idea and struggle of his father ( A.T BADEY) His father is one best public servant the ogonis has ever produce after the of PAUL NAKUU BIRABI and IGNATIUS KOGBARA then you talk of BADEY
But Mitee knows the guy is telling the truth because he Mitee was No. 2 to Saro Wiwa. If Mitee doesn't say the truth publicly, it's because of fear that Wiwa's supporters will take him out.
@fallguy6445 wow, didn't get all this info before. But it's still same divide and rule game by the government. The government sow a bad seed in one of us and use same to cause confusion among us, and then lack of wisdom in us all ...we go begin betray ourselves, fight ourselves and they will become our referee. May the soul of all the departed rest in peace. PEACE AND LOVE TO OGONI LAND
The killings of ogoni 4 are caused by Nigerian government. Is a political masterpiece that the government wants to implicate on ken saro wiwa Letting the public knows that there death are caused by ken saro wiwa. Ken saro wiwa was an innocent person concerning the case of the ogoni 4.
This why as a country we should be careful of all these so-called human rights activists. Saro wiwa killed all his kinsmen who never supported his unbridled ambition.
Ironic and ogonis to kill their kinsmen no matter the offence is barbaric and unacceptable! however, with what has happened since 1999 till date, it has shown that there is no difference between military attitude to governance from the so called civilian democracy worse things are happening now
"How can this people kill their own " This is what we are witness in Igbo land. The guilty no themselves.
We are all victims of bad government which also APC presenting today
People in the comment section would rather take side and attack violently the other side, instead of listening and learning from our sad and bloody history. I bet most commentators here actually know less than they think they do about this case
Obviously, Saro committed those offences of the 4 as they were perceived to him as betrayal of there struggle 🤷🏼♂️.
Big lessons for many today who has a brain to ponder! Those who just act irrationally and criminally in the name of struggle for something they will claim is fight for there right/fair course
A lot of healing and reconciliation has to be done, and also, truth be told, Saro in his struggle can't be exonorated like he did nothing wrong in the course (like the killing of those 4).
There's oil on your head for wisdom. You reason well. ❤
This is so sad 😢😭😭😭😭
Read Bishop Kukah book on the Ogoni trials. Suage is right here ...
Thankyou Arise for letting us hear the other side of the story, alot of so called activists were actually hyenas in human skin,
But the four chiefs killed were accused of working against Ogoni interest and being in bed with the Govt and Shell.
That's not true. They did that out of jealousy because they were the leading political figures in Ogoniland as of then.
even if, do they have the right to kill people?
And I am convinced
So what if they were working with the government? Does that mean they should be butchered? What are you on about?
And that justified their extra-judiciap killing?
This man is traumatized and this is understandable. This man said he was an eye witness to the murder of ogoni 4 but no where did he place Saro Wiwa at the scene of the murder. The interview is useless
BADEY IS ONE OF THE BEST POLITICIAN THAT THE OGONIS HAS EVER HAD AFTER (PAUL NAKUU BIRABI)
This man wan cry😢 chaii
is painful nah. you can't unalive someone father without remorse and not expect them to
be pained
Because he's telling the real truth.
Ken sarowiwa paid for what he did. A liar and a fraud
This why as a country we should be careful of all these so-called human rights activists.
And Charles seems to be dismissing the gentleman’s story, the fact that he was a journalist doesn't mean he can’t commit a crime.
The government should publish his trials for all to see.
Thank you AriseTv for this
Ken was a biggest betrayal
This is the first time I am hearing this side of the story. My Ogoni brothers and sisters, is this true?
Yes sir, he was actually killed by abacha for the same crime
@@ephraimgonzo6970I thought Abacha and Saro Wiwa were friends during Biafra Nigeria war
@@ikechukwuokeke8170You Are Not Making Sense With Your Incoherent Statement
@@ikechukwuokeke8170u are not making sense at all
Yes oh, my brother or sister, it's the whole truth, and until our people accept this truth and apologize and confess to God, we won't have peace and unity and progress in Ogoni. Saro Wiwa started well with love for our people, but ended up destroying the very people he said he loved. It was like darkness descended on his soul.
This man is talking trash as far as am concerned. the man Saro Wiwa is no longer alive to ascertain his innocence or guilt.
Either way one looked at the situation, the Ogonis were the loosers. Both the 4 and the 9 were some of their brightest. And I also believed that the Nigerian government had a hand on that. They sacrificed the 4 to get at the 8 and some other prominent Ogoni people
Many things dey happen.
This guy is a student of Tinubu political thought. Really? All that he said should be checked well. It will have elements of lies.
His account is logical
But his story is the truth. Being an eyewitness means that he was fully aware and saw the evidence.
@@torksaromuelley6511truth as seen by you. He was not an eye witness and the Ogoni 4 were in fact working antithetical to the MOSOP
Now this is the reason why NIJA DELTA was created,,Divide and ruel.,,,UNBELIEVABLE
Still ongoing till tomorrow, the more reason there is lack of development
A student of Tinubu indeed.
Say your piece without trying to rubbish Ken. Ken was fighting a right cause, and your father was in bed with the regime of Abacha.
Very wicked country 😢so pathetic story 😢
they just want to insult Abacha
You be Tinubu student and you no shame to talk am?
That statement alone makes me suspect you
Tinubu's Political philosophy indeed...
Every lives matter
Divide and Rule
Ken Saro-Wiwa was not even anywhere near Gokana. One of the 4 chiefs killed was Ken's inlaw. All these lies are coming up because Tinubu said he wants to exonerate Ken Saro-Wiwa
He wasn't there. But he incited them. You do a research about the story. In lie always do things within the law, inciting mob against people is wrong because with time one will lose control of that group. And should anything happen, you the leader would be culpable. Same thing happened to Yussuf and Boko Haram.
Yes, he was an in-law to one of the victims, but you are wrong on the rest.
He addressed the crowd when he claims the army asked him to turn back on the road? Was the crowd on the road? And the military permitted him to address a crowd under such condition? Lies that don't make sense
I lost this man d moment he mentioned he is a student of Tinubu and believes in Tpains philosophy... Baba get lost abeg
I love this man.
Ken Saro Wiwa was not in even in the country what is! What is this man saying???
He was fully on ground then
My dear, am telling you he was not because am sure of what am saying.@EhensiriOkpe

Your Dad was treacherous, period!
You talk like you were there and you know witnessed events leading to the killings and the killing
Can You Present Your Irrefutable Fact On This?
This guy is actually looking for attention of the oppressor in the country. And mine you he stay underground for over 30 years before coming to talk this nonsense that he was paid for..i understand when you have a bad father who's using public money to feed his family just to stay rich
Kamar will come
It's better not to make comments than make injurious and sensitive comments. You most likely don't know much about this case like you want to imply
Your story does not add up.
I think ledum mitee is alive to address this lies by father's like son.
But Mitee knows the guy is telling the truth because he Mitee was No. 2 to Saro Wiwa. If Mitee doesn't say the truth publicly, it's because of fear that Wiwa's supporters will take him out.
Your father was a collaborator with the oppressors.
Wrong. Not true.
Very likely
This guy dey craze sha! Serious allegations against Ken saro wiwa
You thought Ken Saro Wiwa was a saint? People wey dey vex for am many
Not an allegation, it was the charge Saro was convicted of
Lol. Wiwa was convincted and keeled.
He didn't die for fun
@fallguy6445 wow, didn't get all this info before. But it's still same divide and rule game by the government. The government sow a bad seed in one of us and use same to cause confusion among us, and then lack of wisdom in us all ...we go begin betray ourselves, fight ourselves and they will become our referee. May the soul of all the departed rest in peace. PEACE AND LOVE TO OGONI LAND
No, he's not crazy, just saying the simple truth.
Your father was about to share money
You might want to remain only a listener instead of commenting like you were there and you know what transpired
Were You There? Stop Insinuating Nonsense

The killings of ogoni 4 are caused by Nigerian government. Is a political masterpiece that the government wants to implicate on ken saro wiwa
Letting the public knows that there death are caused by ken saro wiwa.
Ken saro wiwa was an innocent person concerning the case of the ogoni 4.
This why as a country we should be careful of all these so-called human rights activists.
