Gowon must go down as one of the weakest or hypocritical of Nigeria leaders. In the lead up to the war, he could not stop the pogrom of Igbos in the north. When Murtala massacred the people in Asaba he could not reign him in. His three R's was a fraud. What brilliant young soldier of rare integrity. Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu and his company of like minded revolutionaries, Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Timothy Onwuatuegwu, and Adewale Ademoyega. They may have been rash or extreme in their bid to cure the ravages of Nigeria's polity, critically six years after independence, but Major Nzeogwu's great speech here, bears tons of credence to the fact, especially so many years after his led coup d'etat of January the 16th, 1966, that the country existed only on paper. He and the Biafran secessionist liberator, General Odumegwu Ojukwu, l regard in highest honor as Military visionaries, others later, and now, were, and are mere soldiers in uniform.

On Biafra, Col. Ojukwu as an Oxford trained historian should have seen the direction the war was headed and accepted a compromised Biafra position in Ethiopia or Kampala peace talks than fighting to a bitter end.
Next generation has a base to fight injustice from.
Mandela compromised terms with white South Africans in codesa for political freedom leaving economic freedom for the next generation
Sometimes you can't get everything you in one go.
Nigeria is an exploitative estate not a nation.

so Why is Gowon's people in the North being hunted down and killed like animals Ojukwu saw the future, if Gowon agreed to Aburi war would have been avoided and the Middle belt everybody will be able to build on their resources. Instead everybody relies on the center. And the states cannot develop to their full potential.

Absolutely brilliant, a much needed discussion and documentary on the Biafra war, to educate a lot of Nigerians young and old who know nothing about the atrocities of the Biafra war, let’s hope the powers that be especially this current buhari’s government learn from this and change his course of oppression of Igbos in particular and southern Nigeria as a whole , we have to make a serious effort to make everyone to feel needed and appreciate in Nigeria , to start an effective reconciliation, yes every region in Nigeria feels marginalized because of years of thievery and corruption , but none can compare with total abandonment of Igbo areas, a good start of reconciliation will be to elect an Igbo president in 2023, that will be a tremendous start for Nigeria’s way to a total reconciliation, I bet you, the sky will not fall, we need it ,Nigeria desperately needs to heal, for peace .

I wish the ruling class could just allow a referendum on Nigeria. Personally, I wouldn't want any region unwilling to be part of the union to be forced to remain. The foundation of Nigeria needs to be relayed, no doubt. I think part of the way forward is a return to a true federalism with each region being in control of their resources and allowed to progress at their own pace. Failing this, we should just go our separate ways. The current rulers and legislooters are far too selfish and conceited for any meaningful development.

funny enough, during the struggle for independence, both the North and the Southwest wanted that loose federal system where each region controlled their affairs but the southeast was against this idea. Another thing the south West region wanted was a clause of secession to be added to the constitution as an option but again the southeast refused. All this would have been prevented if the southeast could have foreseen the future but maybe they thought they had an advantage during independence. It is so sad that Nigeria went to war and millions were killed. However, it is now difficult to convince the north and the southwest to accept a loose confederacy because they have control of power right now

That sounds like an admission of guilt and an indictment of oneself.

The agitation for the sovereign state of biafra is a project that must be completed at all cost. Nigeria is not one and had never been. It is comprised of so many ethnic nationalities with diverse culture and languages. We have absolutely nothing in common with the rest of the country. We were living separately as a republican state before the evil Britain joined us with other nationalities by way of amalgamation against our collective will. We reject this unholy forced marriage in totality.

What purpose is this touching documentary meant to accomplish? If it is to remind Nigerians of how far they have come and how far they ought to have come, then the lessons should be deployed into genuine national integration. This cannot be done ignoring the need for the call for restructuring to be visited. This presents better opportunity for reconciliation, development and peace.
