Hi Bilikis, I was watching your new lesson on Tulip Sleeves and was fortunate to read a comment asking you about this lesson on the Elastic Waist. This smocking lesson was just what I needed. Could I ask you to make a small adjustment to your explanations explanations to us? The sewing/pattern term for adding extra inches is called "Ease". IE 1/4 of your hip is 11 inches plus 4 inches of Ease = 15 inches. The part where I get mixed up is the total ease. The total ease on the front of the dress is actual 8 inches at the hip? I gather that because of the Smocking at the waist we loose 4 inches of ease. Am I correct? How much Ease would I add to the Bust and Waist? Thanks and I really enjoyed this lesson!

Please ma are we to use the elastic thread both in the shuttle and as the sewing thread or just in the shuttle alone?
Just shuttle alone then above is the normal thread, its for the butterfly machine
Apply the elastic thread tightly
