Back around 1996, I woke up one morning without cigarettes. I'm sitting there with my coffee, and nobody around has a cigarette. This is unacceptable. Being the broke dick that I am, I stepped to my roommate, who does a lot of swap meet and horse-trading. I tell him I got something really cool for five bucks. I showed him, and there went his Poker Face. The guy was in love. Back in New Jersey, in the early 80s, I was rooting around a trunk of a 1970 Chevelle in a junk yard, and I managed to find a motorcycle chain link popper. This wasn't just any chain link popper, though. This was a sand-cast, old school link popper, had a rusty patina, but was in really good shape, and the words: Harley-Davidson, were cast in the handle on one side, and, on the other side, the number:1903, was cast. It looked like it was handmade. Anyhoot, I hop on my 1969 E750 Honda hardtail custom-built Chopper, with a Paucho single downtube frame, 48" Paucho Narrow Springer, (axle to axle,10' 6"!!!)15" Volkswagen rear tire, ARD belt driven Magneto, twin Weber side drafts(!), etc.... this bike was built in late 1969, and it was an absolute beast. So I kick start it, push in the clutch pedal, grab a handful of Old Milwaukee beer tap shifter, and before I could turn that throttle, I had instantly regretted selling that link popper for $5. So, I just hope someone comes on here, and say they never made a link popper in 1903, and I'll feel much better. And, as for my old Honda Chopper, I actually met Billy Lane and a friend, in a beer tent on Main Street, Bike Week. They saw how radical the bike was and they came over and admired it. I did not know who Billy Lane was, or his friend, until he had a shop, a mile from my house, in Melbourne Florida. So don't dog on me for having a Honda. At that same time, I also had a Triumph tiger 750 I was building, and a BSA Thunderbolt Chopper. Good Times....

EJ Cole I believe is the owner of Cole's Antique Village and Market in Pearland. I remember a display booth/indoor shop at the flea market where you could look in the windows and check out the old bikes, it was really neat. There was also a Motorcycle Shop in Pearland called Competition Cycles where he keep some of his bikes on display that I used to hang around with my buddies who worked there, it was a really neat shop and I hated seeing them going out of business sometime around 2006 or 07 or so. I'm from a little town called Santa Fe Texas about 15 miles from Pearland. I dont believe I ever actually met the man but I always heard stories about all the old bikes he had.
