I really like this version, he really gives so much of his soul into this song and I really appreciate the positive energy he gives alot to this performance and you can feel he really meant it for someone he is singing to to feel it too, very deep and raw version, thank you for sharing that love + vibrations
I played this song on guitar for my little cousin when we were on vacation at the family beach house, she loved it so much. her parents told me she came back asking them to put her cousin's music on while pretending it was playing. Whenever I remember this I am very happy. it's things like that that make anything special.
It's a straight up circle progression, as basic as it gets. Intentionally so to not have the brain feel any complexity/anxiety; we're supposed to be on an island getaway. I hope you read this comment thirteen years later and are just astounded.
I just saw them in concert last night. Incredible live. Played all their hits, including this one. Rivers has so much energy, and a killer voice. Not to mention the killer instrumentals!! The most wicked guitar solos and drum solos. Plus they covered Kids by MGMT. And he jokingly sang Poker Face in a white wig. Haha!
I like to close my eyes, and imagine Rivers sitting on my bed, playing his guitar, slightly absentmindedly, relaxed and feeling like he's at home, while I read a book, or brush my hair, or something.
@@rupertneaves1293 No, there is no auto tune here. That technology wasn't even usable outside of the studio at this point, and still required an engineer to blend it into the track.

Before I was born, my mother miscarried and then had another one of my brothers really prematurely and I know they're up and in heaven waiting for me to greet them someday in heaven. This song always has me thinking about that.
Totally love his voice and how he plays the guitar, best song ever! At least he´s not a liar one like other singers who has no voice at all! so if you don´t like the video just GET OUT OF HERE ;) !
People use the word autotune way too liberally. It's like any amount of compression and effects added and people immediately start yelling accusations. I've been studying music production for about four years now and to me it sounds like the recording software/microphone that rivers is using has a compression filter, which takes the audio waveforms and essentially "squashes" them a little bit. Producers use this a lot as a quick way to normalize the audio and reduce the chance of there being any unwanted noise. Now take this and add slight reverb filter or phaser effect (also common to add varous dimensions to the singer's voice) and you get a sound very similar to this. On the other hand, "autotune" aligns the waveforms to a pitch, so that there is absolutely no wavering/overtones. My point is, stop claiming things are "autotuned" when you don't even know what that means. Next time, how about saying something like "hmm this guy's voice sounds edited."
+Cody Walker bro Im a producer myself and let me tell you, this has a lot of pitch correction... just an example at 2:29 , also lots of general pitch corrections, where notes seem SO sustained and perfect (2:14)... that's just the software, you can actually hear it... btw, sorry for replying to your 1-year-old comment :D
Music students today are in a sad state. Not that they dont have talent but the teachers and the classes and what the values of music are in colleges and universities these days have gone to a fucking sad place. I wouldnt take a music students word over a random hobo sorry to say.
Its autotune. As a long time producer (since 1978) at polar studious im pretty sure i know my shit. "Compression and effects" Sounds nice but doesnt mean a thing.
I agree with Cody all the way! I'm an Engineer/Producer who went to audio school too, & since your a long time producer from 1978 you would know less about Autotune then my generation, cause Autotune wasn't around in 1978. Autotune is actually fairly new & we know so much more new shit about audio than you do. We're the new blood in Engineering & Producers.... & we're most likely smarter than you. Fuckin pitch correction, it's a live performance. I heard him sing off pitch so much in that song so why didn't they fix every little fuckin off pitch note he sang. I've talked to some popular engineer/producers & a motto that stuck with me that one engineer/producer said to me was "Shit in, shit out!" Meaning if it's shitty music that was recorded, all the technology in the world will not change how the the recorded music sounds!
AT first I thought, it was the beat that made this an instant HIT... THEN after listening ... I say! IT was ALL the man behind IT! :) He is SO AMAZING ;)
Sounds like he was getting pretty emotional, i feel bad for his ex bandmate dying so young though, i think that may have been the reason why he was shaking up during the song :-(
@alphamale15 apart from the fact that this singer definately doesn't need to be autotuned (!) because he actually has an impressive natural voice, I'm not sure if there isn't maybe a slight pitch correction in the 'effects chain' here. there are some parts where it really sounds like it. could also be that he just perfectly hits the tone, but as I say... I'm not sure here
Probably up their with Nirvana and Foo Fighters for the best acoustic performance of a rock song. His voice is somehow even more beautiful here than the studio track.
@TheIcex13 ok T pain doesnt have synthesizers. he has vocoder (pitch correction) but he doesnt need it..he can actually sing. and this video doesnt have vocoder on it, because even if it was slight you could still tell easily. The synthesizer is what the other guitar player plays some times. The "small keyboard" with the huge thing of knobs on it.
@PopExpo hes using a vocalizer. which make all the notes he hit sound smooth... unlike auto tone which is note correcting... so basicly if it sounds smooth hes real close to the note but the vocalizer still makes it sound alot smoother like look at 2:12 u cant totally tell he was way iff
man, the comments in here... people debating if it's got autotune ( that's not even a debate, yes it's got ), others bragging about being young producers but not admitting it's got autotune (who are you protecting ?), others accusing older bragging producers that they are falling behind with advances in technology, how would they know autotune? ... really ? yes, the voice is processed it's got autotune, some compression, eq, the whole package. The guitar, it first records through the single coil pickup, then through the microphone in front and keeps switching. The whole thing sounds like it was recorded in multitrack, then took each channel and added effects, correction, mixed it nicely, then added to youtube. It didn't sound like that in the audience. thing is... it doesn't matter if it's autotuned and overprocessed as long as it makes you feel something, as long as it touches you. Hell... the first album of Audioslave that i found in 2003 on torrents was without chris cornell's pitch corrections and it sounded like a tortured cat. But when i got the album in the store it had the much needed corrections... you know what? i still listen to it. analize the track with objectivism, take it apart, thats what audio engineers do to train and learn, but don't blame the tools.
@DeEzriel I've read in other posts that AOL insists on using pitch correction in performances like these and I wouldn't doubt it (This is more like a "live" in studio setting so it wouldn't be that hard to do if forced to). If you listen real carefully during those parts where He's a bit out, you can hear a slight (unnatural) "struggle" going on trying to "fix" it. Whatever it is, it's slight and Weezer definitely doesn't need it. They're one of the few out there that can actually sing live.
