  • Join us as we paddle into Algonquin Park's backcountry for a day of exploring and lake trout fishing. We stop for lunch at a beautiful camp site next to a waterfall on Head Lake before portaging into Kenneth Lake. The weather is great and we hook into some lake trout on both lakes. Time spent together in Algonquin is always fun and we enjoy every moment of it.

    Nice Trout Alec and Paige. I just got home from a 4 day trip to Head and Kenneth and picked it from watching this video a few weeks back. The fire pit had a pair of socks, beer cans and foil when I arrived, all cleaned up now..That trickle you had was a full blown waterfall for us, it had rained 7 days prior and rained all 4 of ours with high winds. Must have spooked the Trout for me, only 1 from shore at camp and 2 Bass on Cashe. But my wife and I did find the lake and site to be as great as you guy said and I am going back for another 4 in two weeks..lol..This time with nicer weather I hope and more Trout. Going to go watch your 3 day solo now.. cheers! ~Andrew

      Hey Andrew, I'm happy to hear you picked that area based on my video. That is a very popular site on Head Lake and I think I've found garbage on it everytime. It has rained alot the last 2 weeks so I would imagine that waterfall must have been raging. Fishing should be better on your next trip, the water will be cooler and the trout will be more active. Thanks for watching!

You have exceptional fishing success, thanks for sharing a picture and description of the lures you use, I’m certain every fisherman/woman is thankful too. This video was filmed the last week of July. It has been a good year for fishing so far. As the water warms the trout fishing does get tougher. I just got back recently from a solo trip where I caught lots of brook trout. I agree, Paige is an excellent paddler and canoe partner. Thanks for watching!

    Awesome job. I also troll with leadcore. I like a penn 109 paired with 7 ft ugly stik. I get 6 colors and a bit of backing on it. More than enough for algonquin trout. Can you explain your set up along with which rod holder uou use?

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a smaller trolling reel and short leadcore rod. The reel fits 5 colours nicely which as you said is more than enough for Algonquin and leaves half the spool for changing out later. The rod holder I use is a Scotty brand one and I use there coaming/gunwale clamp to secure it to the canoe. I haven't really brought it on multi-day trips, I normally just hold it between my legs. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Hi Alec, great videos.! I’m headed into Algonquin this Friday and I’ll be staying on Ragged lake. I’ve been to Algonquin 7 years in a row with a lot of success catching bass but not trout. Is there any advice for catching lake trout or brook trout on Ragged? Bait, locations, etc. I would truly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the trout are very deep right now so you will need to troll or jig for them. I haven't fished for trout in that area, its loaded with bass. I have heard there's a deep channel on Ragged where you could troll for lakers. You could also loop back through Claude Lake which is stocked with Splake and try your luck there. Hi Alec, My wife and I watch all of your videos. We are going to start Algonquin trips as soon as we get our new Swift canoe. We are curious about the rod/reel combos you and Paige use. Any suggestions as to what we should be looking at would be appreciated.

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Greg, happy to hear you're watching all my videos. I'm sure you will enjoy your new canoe, that's awesome. I would recommend getting a spinning reel. I like Shimano but there are other good brands too. I use a medium weight Ugly Stick rod which I like because they're tough and can take some abuse which is common on a canoe trip. I had a more expensive Abu Garcia rod prior which snapped when it got caught on a bag portaging. You can always use rod cases to protect your rod but I like to keep them out for easy access. Paige uses a cheaper rod and reel combo which was less than 50 bucks. It doesn't have to be fancy, keeping the reel oiled especially if it takes a dump in the lake or gets drenched in a rain storm is a good idea. Hope this helps, enjoy this summer with your new canoe and thanks for following the channel!

      @@AleconAdventures Thank you for your response Alec. I see in some of your videos that your using a reel with a line counter and lead core line. I was hoping that you might be a little more specific as to what make/model of reel you use and what brand of lead core line. I'm worried about buying reels too big and heavy- weight is everything on the Portage, as I'm being told. Thank you, Greg

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My trolling rod is a Cabela's Depthmaster leadcore rod and my reel is a Okuma Magda Pro. If you're looking to save the most weight you can use a baitcaster reel because the depth counter is not really necessary with leadcore. I've used the more expensive leadcore with gore fibers 12lbs which is nice and lasts a little bit longer. Recently I have been using cheaper leadcore 15lbs which does the job. Once the the braid sheath loses it's colour its time to change it out.

    Wow, she is good with the canoe. The canoe must be around 50 Lbs, and she lifted it with a good technique. I never let my wife carry the canoe, maybe I am too possessive ( H2O Slingshot222 @ 18'6" and 42 Lbs)

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paige is an excellent canoeist and has guided many canoe trips. Her good technique comes from good instruction and lots of practice. If your wife is willing maybe you could give her some instruction and help her with the flip on and off by holding an end of the canoe for balance. Also make sure she does it in the water so that the canoe doesn't drop on the ground. It might be beneficial for her to have that skill in case you hurt yourself on trip and were unable to portage. That's a nice fast canoe I can see how you might be possessive over it. Thanks for watching!

    to me it appeared as though the people before you built a small fire for you leaving a little crumpled paper in there as kindling so the next ungrateful person would have an almost instant fire, to start it was biodegradable paper not cans, used tampons or a diaper, it was burnable compost set up like a ready made fire, i wuld be more concerned bout the grate that was in there because that doesn't belong, but i bet you used it an i bet you weren't conscious enough to take it with you as a public service now did you? why do seemingly such nice people throw these nasty karen slogans in with their videos?
