    The mallninja sized strike bezel made out of aluminium seems to sum the whole light up pretty well.

    I just watched the thrunite video with the designer of the light, and he specifically stated that the bezel is steel, not aluminium..

    • @cheule
      @cheule  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t do any metallurgy on the bezel obviously. I did note however that it extremely lightweight and magnets didn’t stick to it at all. So probably not aluminum, but you see why I thought it might be.

    8:19 ~ Wow.... Thankfully, I don't have this model. _Unfortunately_ I *do* have a couple of Thrunite TN12 Pros. Which is literally the very same light in terms of the flashlight construction (minus a couple of extremely minor cosmetic differences between the two). But yeah, very same side switch too. And, I also believe it's the very same side switch on my Thrunite TT20. I know this issue won't matter to some, but I need my lights to work under stressful conditions. Looks like I'll be testing my TT20 on the job, tonight.

    • @cheule

      Apologies for not updating my original post. Can confirm that the TT20 (fantastic light) does NOT suffer from the same side-switch issue.

    I don't really like my bss V4. It really does get hot fast. It's really not as bright as other 2000 lumen flashlights that my friends have. The charging cable has a longer charging tip than regular micro usb cables, and I can't find a replacement for the cable my friend lost and I had to buy a battery charger and take it out of the flashlight each time. The tint is horrible, like you said in the video. I am looking at the Olight Warrior and other lights to replace it. I asked ThruNite for a refund and I didn't get a response, until it was after the return window, they said. I don't think I will give ThruNite another chance.

    Glad my judgment told me to avoid these lights. The UI is what usually pulls me into a new light. And this has the “ol faithful” Olight easy interface. Love love love the quick access to both moon light and turbo without mode cycling **cough fenix cough**. The gas pedal feature on the Olight variants are a step above. But I can’t wear a magnetic Olight for work as metal shavings and debris end up getting stuck in and around the switch. Thrunite made a home run with the tn12 pro, but these bss models just always seemed very gimmicky to me.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  ปีที่แล้ว

      Take a look at the Zebralight SC600w. I think it would make an excellent replacement. No magnetic tail cap. But you’ll need an external charger like the XTAR VC4 plus.

    • @tre4tre632
      @tre4tre632 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cheule How do you like the UI? I’ve grown to like the Olight UI on the warrior mini 2 and warrior 3, solely for their 2 modes groups which would allow turbo/strobe access from the tail switch. Otherwise I like the freedom of anduril (mostly the ability to choose either ramping or stepped mode and maybe button battery indicator lights)

  • @cutlassJosh
    @cutlassJosh ปีที่แล้ว

    Crazy how you could see the green coming out from that light.

  • @patricj951
    @patricj951 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a lot of Thrunites and it's my favorite brand. The user interface is the best with direct access to firefly and turbo while the normal modes have memory. Some other brands use direct access to the lowest and highest mode but these are still memorised. Very stupid!
    The mode spacing is also the best in my opinion.
    I have several TN15 and BSS is pretty much the same light with added features.
    I recently ordered BSS v5 in desert tan color. Hope the tint will not be too greenish.
    Regarding the temperature and fast drop: there is no light of this size which is able to run continiously at 2000+ lumen without being hot. The mass is simply too small for adequate heat dissipation.
    And even if it was possible, the limit would be set by a single 18650, which cannot sustain the required power for long time at such a high brightness.
    Actually the vast majority of turbo-modes are to be considered as burst modes close to the limit of what the LED and battery can perform.
    Lumen sells, despite the max levels are not very useful, and fast drain the battery.
    Therefore I don't buy a light because of the max lumen output, and almost never use turbomode. High mode is still very high and can be used for extended period.

      @cheule  ปีที่แล้ว

      They ship with insulating disks inside the light. Did you remove it? Unscrew the cap and remove it between the battery and spring.
      Also it might be in lockout mode. Long press the button until it turns on in ultra low mode. Then a quick tap to turn off. Then a quick tap to turn on.

    IF there really was a "shade of green" in YOUR sample perhaps they got a bad batch of SST70 emitters? No other reviwer has complained or even hinted at "green tint" on their BSS' v5 or the prevvious (though I think they might have used a different emitter on the v4....could be wrong). And i don't see it on my copy (Jan 2023)....eve in side-by-side comparison on LOW with my Olights and NITECORE...they look pretty much the same degree of white/tint. Only difference was i brightness.
    Also, IIrC correctly Olight is using the SST70 emitter in one of their Warrior X lights....a thower. Did it's job as a thower and no green tint was mentioned. Nor seen in the reviewers footage.
    I mea if there was an obvious e.g. Evergreen green.....or "healthy grass green"....then, obviously there would be a problem when the idea was to get "white" or a "blue-ish white" (never seen "blue"in a CW...heh...).
    Tints. People use coloured filters on purpose for different uses. To "save night vision" (red), UV, blue to see lquids not visible to t he human eye)....green even--saves night vision and does not washout certin clour tints and detail. ..and as you know some lights ome wit a colour LED...more obvious shades of red, blue or green....now if the "ugly green tint' resembled vomit....uneven shades of green on the hotspot/spill....heh..

      Pure BS. Its useless beyond imagination and distorted beam isn't bonus either 😒.
      There is no application for such things, not in tactical settings, not in self-defence, unless ofcourse some want to go to prison for a long time.

    That bezel is too gimmicky. Aluminum and oversized bezel is more likely to rip your jeans or get stuck trying to deploy lol. The logo is meh and if really concern for defense use it just seems over complicated. On the flip side it looks decently built (minus bezel). For/to me there’s lot better options if planning to use as a tac light.

    BSS labeling is BS! I agree with you. I always love the outdoor demos at end.

    Great honest review. I think they spent too much time and money on the design, interface and branding and kinda forgot about the emitter until the last moment and went for the cheapest and rushed it out for release. This flashlight focused on the FLASH and forgot about the LIGHT! 😂

    Holy hell dude, you're whining about a USMC Recon Marine's logo? For literally hundreds of thousands of Marine veterans that is a *selling point*

    • @cheule

      It’s the logo of a TH-cam channel called Black Scout Survival.

    Holy crap, that tint shift on that BSS, ThruNite just can’t seem to get away from that. Most of their lights have horrible tint shift.

      Honest question, are you R/G colorblind? Or have you compared it to any Nicha emitters?
