10-15 year old cars and still got some of the sexiest tail lights on the highway. I wish Infiniti had kept their design more like this year than they did. It's one of their prettiest creations, but a lion when you accelerate.

Good review, on YOUR car, but I'm amazed about the comments on rust, paint and rattles. Yes, the 6M gearbox does relay a lot of info to your hand, I'm so with you on that point. The paint on my 03 V35 (Skylline) is still perfect (silver). Maybe with the dark blue you'd see every little 'nick'?? Rust would be the last thing I thought I'd be worrying about; absolutely never seen one on Oz with rust issues, but then again it doesn't snow(?). Rattles?....mmmm, nope, mine and the others I've driven appear to be very tight (no tennis balls needed). Great car with good resale! V/G35 rocks!

  • @suemtchlrnw
    @suemtchlrnw 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Our 06 drank some oil, seat belt constantly gets hung up and out, door closes on you or your leg...window regulator and motor stopped working...They must have fixed the the shaking and rattling problems of the 04...I understand we have to replace the front struts now at 100,000...Now back to how it accelerates and handles....amazing...still can surprise (and teach) me...a great driving experience... I could never give up this car until it's just all used up but seems to run perfectly still.

ive got an 06 G-35 with a pearlescent white paintjob. I find this car cant handle little slopes cause i bottom out on a lot of stuff. Electrical problems are pretty pervasive. The windows thing happens all the time until i installed a new battery. Which was rather odd. I find pulling the switch barely to just roll it up prevents it from going back down as compared to the full pull and automatic roll up. Seat adjustment went out for a while. But it came back after the battery issue. Also AC randomly turns off or switches direction of motion like from feet to face or both. Engine is amazing. I love G's theyre quick and fast, have a rather sexy exhaust rumble thats pretty identifiable. And they are just down right badass. Electrical problems can be dealth with cause its too nice of a car to turn down.

When i fill my tank it always stays a quarter of a tank less even though i know its full. It does not go down normally based on my experience. It gets to empty way before it is actually empty. The only way i judge how much gas is in my tank is knowing that my car can get about 300 miles before i should be filling it up. It may get more but i feel safe filling at 300 on the odometer. This whole issue is caused by the fuel sending unit. Most likely it is starting to go bad in both our cars.

i had the same the problem, i hope your sitting down….. ok i have two g35 they both are 03's. now what you can do is unhook the battery just the (- neg) cable. if that works its only for a while.. whats really going on is that your radio is going OUT or BAD.. the reason it works when its cold is because the radio and the temperature gage all works together (sounds crazy) but if you go to the dealer ship they will tell you the same thing but it will cost you if you as them.. the only thang that will correct this is a new radio, what i did was go on line and looked up a savage yard that had good used parts that had a warranty (at less 60 day)…..if you look at the radio when it goes out you gages are stuck in place as far as the temp> hope i gave you thing useful

The noise on the other hand can be typical with a VQ engine as it can be a chattery engine. Plus it doesn't have the quietest interior noise suppression either. You do hear a lot of engine, and road noise and the exhaust on g35's have a louder but nice sounding note then most cars. Just as long as your not hearing any crazy clunks or bangs when revving/driving. Some ticking in association with the idle is normal.

You can really find a good model within both those years if you do research. Although from all forums i have been on the 05-06 g35 models where equipped with a new rev-up engine. This engine was prone to have oil consumption issues so that is why i went one year back and got an 04.

So I have to say, I haven't met many people that have had the G as long as I have. Got it in May of 05 w/ 53 miles. it's 9-26-14 and i just breached 150k. I've done all the maintenance myself, from basic oil changes (always Mobil-1, every 3000-3500k.) to tranny oil change, differential, pvc valve, etc, YES the car burns oil, YES the fuckin doors are heave and hit the back of your knee and slam you shin, yes the damn driver side door lock stops working and yes the goddamn window actuator on pass. side goes out.. and for the life of me YES the fuckin rocker covers warp at about 100k right before or there after you change the spark plugs. With the exception of maybe one or two items here, this car is AMAZING! I have invested SO much time and so much work... I'm not a mechanic, but I've done all the mods. myself and in a simple manner. I'm 33 yrs. old and just wanted to play w the car on a budget. I have Stoptech crossdrilled/slotted rotors. (Don't do it.. they fuckin suck, they crack around the drills) I have had EBC brake pads (nope, they suck too) Stick w HAWK. I do have generic SS break lines that I found from someone on G35driver and were nice!. Also, when your clutch actually starts sticking to the floor on a hot day, don't listen to INFINITI for a resolve, they want to take you for your money like an other STEALERSHIP. Clutch for 2k? Fuck no, try $20 ss clutch line and problem solved. that was at under 30k.
No probs. w clutch since, and I drive my baby hard at least 3-4 times a weeks. Anyway, with that said.. I also have DOT 3 Racing blue fluid, SPC front and back camber kits, lowered w TEIN S-Springs and Tokico D-Speck shocks. In the Engine; Stillen intake w Z-Tube intake, throttle body spacer, HKS grounding kit, Motordyne iso thermal plenum as well as the lower collector, venom racin oil catch can w a closed system. And them the aesthics; motor mount, nrg upper strut tower... blah. it goes on. Point is, the only REAL problems I have encountered were the ones w the covers warping and leaking at under 100k. Everything else is dumb and does not affect the performance of the car. Again, I am the single proprietor of this 05 G35 coupe.. oh btw I forgot that at about 20k I rear ended a car and compressed my frame about 3cm. WAS pulled out, and i know everyone says cars are never the same after the fact, but i can still take this 2 ton bitch on a 35 mph off ramp and 95 mph. She's solid and love the car, IP w/ blk rims, de-badged, blk. tail-lights and clear-corners.. Prior to this I had a 2002 Nissan Se-r Specv. Boo.. and yeas, I still went w Nissan after that fact. No paint chipping.. I think I can get another 50k outta her, still get compliments for her body, and she still takes me out for a ride at 130.

When buying a sedan '06 G35, when you hold unlock button on keyfob, both front windows go down on standard package, all four windows go down on premium package.
Hold lock+unlock on keyfob to toggle the horn beep on/off when locking car with keyfob.
Keyfob battery is a 2032, if you bought 2025 battery you'll find the keyfob randomly will not work within an hour and require reprogramming. This is because 2025 battery is too thin and will come loose and disconnect. Use 2032 type battery.

I owned an 03 coupe for about 3-years. I bought with 69k miles and it was one owner. As many have said, it was a great car overall and extremely enjoyable to drive. However one issue that spoiled my experience with the car was the crap electrical in the car. The first issue I had was the trunk not opening and whoever the genius that designed this car was, they offered no other way to gain access to the trunk other then the electrical trunk release and the emergency latch in the trunk. The next thing to go around 80k were both window motors, and then shortly after that the driver's side automatic locks. And then my favorite was when the dash console started working off and on while driving it, occasionally blasting the AC with no way to turn it off other than turning the car off. I took it into Infiniti and they told me it would cost nearly $3000 to fix the electrical issues, no thanks. I put up with these issues for about a year before I got tired of dealing with them and sold the car. I heard they fixed this issue after the 04 model, but still, be warned. I will say, however that I never had any motor or drive train issues which is definitely nice.

My car is at 130k. 04 g35 coupe. Fucking love the car and my next will be the same or a nissan. Anyways um having window problems as well. The driver side is slugglish. My passenger side won't unlock with the button. Other than that the car has never left me on the road and has never even made a bad noise. Literally all I've done is oil and brakes. Hands down best car I've had. Love infiniti

Don't get Nissan unless you get a manual. They have CVT automatics, and the one I had was very troubleprone. So much so, I took a bath on the value and traded it in after a year. CVT's tend to rev high=more noise, and on the highway, the constant buzzing drove me nuts. Plus I had to take it in twice in 1 year for transmission issues (it was a second generation, as they call it, Xtronic CVT. God, I love having a geared automatic again...

No i have not had any issues with my alarm going off randomly. Although it is a issue that other owners have had. Sometimes the hood and door sensors can go bad. You can disconnect the hood pin switch to see if that changes anything. Its right by the power steering reservoir. If you do that disconnect the negative battery term for like 2 min then reconnect. Also check your battery. Make sure you have good terminal connections and nothing is loose. Battery could be going bad.

I've owned my 2005 G35 for 8 years. THIS IS AN AWESOME CAR!!! Far nicer than a Honda which my daughter owns. The parts are inexpensive but every issue he has explained in this video I have experienced. I've never had one issue with my engine or transmission and it still drives like a brand new car. I totally replaced my factory radio which was garbage also replaced my motors in the windows but I allowed the Infiniti dealership to replace them. There were recalls to repair the windows from functioning in the unknown up and down manner. Of every car I've ever owned this one is by far the greatest!!!!!!!!!

    Have a 2006 AT
    Bought it in 2008.
The only issue I have had was the Tire pressure sensor light stays on now. I may have hit a pot hole and probably damaged one sensor.
When the car gets to around 80k to 100K it's time to change the water pump.
Also all the cars that use the same V6 engine have an issue with oil in the Spark plug well at around 60k. That means you need to buy replacement valve covers.
No the seals are not replaceable.
prepare to spend about $250 for the covers.
No need to put tennis balls. Use some of that black foam used in camera cases.
Take apart the door panel and bolster up the contact between the panel and the door. If the speaker grill is vibrating use window chalking to deaden the spot where the plastic is vibrating. Obviously do it behind the speaker grill ;)
The paint chips suck so the obvious answer is use one of those clear bra kits. Well worth the money!
Robots use just enough paint to cover the car. That's all. That's why most mass produced cars have that orange peal look to their paint close up.
Walk up to a Bentley and the paint is as smooth as glass. Now that's a paint job.
I have had 2 people run their car doors into mine. Selfish pricks.
If I had that clear bra on my paint would have survived.
I love the Sun roof. when it's open I can't tell if it is because the air flows so quietly over it. On the G37's however it's noisy as hell. They changed the shape of the car.
Love the performance. I get good gas mileage because I don't race from red light to red light like most schmucks do here in my town.
    Get a 2006 and above.

I also have an 03 G35 6MT so I can help. First off, for the trunk not opening it is just a broken wire so open the trunk up and on the passenger side find the rubber wire loom and open it up and find the broken wire for the trunk release and re connect it....very easy fix. And for the gas guage, you need to remove the rear seat and open up the fuel tank from the top and pull out the fuel pump and clean the floater with a Qtip.... It looks like piano keys kinda but its sending unit that tells how much fuel is in the tank, it gets dirty from the gunk in the gas im guessing...but clean both the drivers and passenger side fuel pumps and ur tank will read properly.....refer to hanes manual if u dont know how to disassemble the rear tank....its really easy guys even though it sounds difficult...takes literally less than a half hour for both fixes....hope this helps.....!!! Link me if u need any more help.

My car: 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe non-brembo on stock 18's
    Additional issues:
#1. The paint finish on the inside door handles rubs away QUICK revealing the black base especially on the driver side because your hand touches it the most while entering and exiting.
#2. The leather on the driver seat tends to tear up prematurely at the base next to the door close to your left pants pocket. Re-upholstery is a must.
#3. This ride is BUMPY as hell especially over train tracks...the blood in your body will turn into a milkshake.
#4 You can hear visible road debris flickering and clanking around in your rear wheel wells as you pass over them regardless of your speed...noticeably loud.
#5 i dunno if this is common, but when its really cold outside the car refuses to play the cassette adapter, it keeps spitting out.
#6 And last but not least....que the drum roll please.....The trunk has no keyhole...bravo Infiniti on this one.

  • @noel3286

I'm surprised the new battery and alternator did not solve the light issue. That is what other g35 owners ended up doing to get rid of those lights in the dash and it apparently worked. You were right on the money changing those two things. Those lights are usually a sign that the alternator is dying. As for the suspension creaking and popping it looks like your g has rims and is dropped in the picture.

  • @noel3286
    @noel3286  11 ปีที่แล้ว

Flicking the knob fully will activate the automatic windows. This should close the window on its own and it will not drop back down. Flicking the switch halfway allows you to manual control the windows. This is how it was working before i changed out the window motor. It started doing this after I made the alterations.

  • @jaxjaxson
    @jaxjaxson 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree these are just minor issues compared to all the benefits this car offers. if I were gonna get a used G35 I think I would skip the 03-04 and get an 05+. I think the AC/radio/cd issue is taken care of or less prevalent in 05+. The glove box cover wont peel off also since its hard plastic and not leather like the 03-04 which will peel off eventially. Also u got to get black interior unless you find a tan that was maintained by a neat freak. Be ready to fix the window motor at least once and to fix the locks if you feel the need to use the fob. Car has a timing chain so thats good. Who cares about the oil leaking, just keep up with changes.

+pham I would go with 06 and up actually if I were looking now. Just lower mileage to be found out there in 06-07. They are starting to get really old and high mileage now being over 10 years old. They still look amazing though and have that timeless body style. Things were definitely improved interior in the 05 up and they had a up in power with the rev up engine. Just be careful of the oil consumption issue. The good thing is most cars that really exhibited that manufacture problem have been fixed. Most people fixed it early on when they realized it was happening. So just keep an eye on it yourself like jaxjaxson pointed out. Good luck man!

  • @mugentuner
    @mugentuner 11 ปีที่แล้ว

On the window dropping issue, that happens with a lot of makes. It's that the anti-pinch feature needs resetting on the motor. This can be fixed without removing or replacing the motor on the later years. Turn the key to 'ON', drop the window all the way with power switch, then without using the 'auto up' feature, raise the window to the top manually and hold it for about 10 secs. Check to see if the auto up feature has been reset with a test. On older years, it's different.

I have an '03 "G35 Sedan. I have the seat belt and paint issues. I also have issues with the seat covers wearing on the bolsters (white cracks in the black leather). My driver seat cover also cracked and split on the seat. Mine does go through pads and rotors. I have had the car for 8 years and am on the third set of rotors. The CD player broke and was replaced and broke again. I ended up replacing the stock stereo with an after market stereo. I had to have the driver's side window motor replaced as well. I am starting to experience some transmission slip but I think it might just be a dirty transmission filter. Seems to slip between overdrive and drive. This may sound like a lot of stuff, but I still love the car. Runs and handles great. I am considering getting another when when I wear this one out.

For the front bumper paint that gets destroyed by road debris..i suggest, which i wish i had done from the beginning, getting a clear protective film to protect it. They blend right into the car body. You can find it on ebay. You should not need to get a new paint job..just inspect the body well before you buy one and make sure there is no rust, especially the wheel wells. Buy some touch up paint just in case down the line you see some small rust spots showing up around the car

When you roll your window up, the trigger has 2 clicks. If you pull the trigger all the way up, that's when the window might drop back down. If you just pull it up to the half click then it doesn't do it. May not work for everyone but it works for mine.

Lanre Oladejo No because i still need information concerning them, like gas mileage, yet i live in California so ive been hearing that gas isn't the best! Wats your take on this?

      I'm in a similar position as your man. It's either I go american(charger/mustang/challenger) or I go import (g35,370z) or I go German (996 911 Porsche, R32 Golf V)

Oil problems is from people using synthetic oil on the the VQ series motors from 04-09.

I think every model has its issues, Its tough to find any car out there today that does not have its problems. These cars today are becoming more and more advanced electronically and mechanically (that equals more things to go wrong) I know people with 05/06 model that have the oil consumption issue. I have not experienced any mechanical problems with my year model. I would rather have some electronic problems then oil consumption. Oil consumption is a pain and expensive to fix.

haha im glad im not crazy. ive owned this car since 2007. i do not have brembos. i have 230k miles on it and am selling it right now because i have a 2015 chevy ss sedan that i drive now and the G sits in the side drive way and does nothing. here are all my annoying problems with it over the years:
    - gas tank door actuator/lock mechanism stopped working
    - gas sending unit faulty/dirty does not show proper amount of gas
    - door actuators stopped functioning
    - stock brake pads wear out quickly
    - window motors die quickly
    - window regulator rattles
    - window weather stripping
    - rear view mirror rattles
    - side mirror plastic triangle piece brittle and cracks
    - rear diff axle clicks
    - top glove compartment dash piece lifting
    - drivers seat cracking/torn near recliner handle
    - drivers seat tilt motor died
    - seat belt does not retract
    - door liner plastic lifting (near bottom and right side of drivers side near seat belt)
    - drivers side motor mount bad
    - valve covers and seals replaced twice due to oil leak twice.
    - radiator plastic top piece cracked
    - pulley tensioner broke for serpentine belt
    - throttle body issues with idle
    - underbody engine shroud (plastic) torn (replaced with aluminum one)
    - drivers side escutcheon replaced 3 times. if you take off once, you have to replace it and it costs $45 each time from dealership painted
    - exhaust heat shields rattle
    - bucket shim replaced once $2900 at the dealership for $30 bucket shim. 5 years later it is ticking again. first at 156k replaced at 189k, now again at 228k. this most likely has to do with the VQDE oil starvation problem. valve stem will continue to hit the bottom side of the bucket shim until the valve stem punches through the block.

WOW...now that is some repairs. My pulley tensioner failed too plus many body issues and interior quality/electronic issues. I ripped all the heatshield off the exhaust because it was sooo annoying. Can be a tough car to deal with especially at 230k. Sold mine at 150k. I can see why its sitting in your driveway, i would have done the same myself.

Like i said before next time you go get gas do a fill up to about 15 to 16 gallons and reset your odometer. See how many miles you get off of that amount because we all drive a little differently and get different mpg's. From now on dont look at your gauge anymore just reset your odometer every time you fill up and monitor it that way.

Our cars have 20 gallon tanks. So since 20 gallons is totally empty and the light usually turns on with you being able to make it an extra 100 miles or so (3-4 extra gallons still left in the tank)...you should be able to fill up about 15-16 gallons every time at the gas station.

Oh yea and the window issue you have of it rolling back down is because something is in the way of the window. You can try testing this on your passenger window which has no problems, just open the window and close the window on your arm or an object and the window will roll back down in the same manner. This is just a safety feature that the window module has thinking there is something blocking it and rolls the window back down to prevent crushing the object or breaking the window.

I would say based on what iv read and heard from people that they just keep a close eye on the oil level on the dipstick. They check it more often then normal. I would agree that that would be the best way to monitor between long drives how much oil is being consumed. Check the dip stick after you get the oil change and then check it a week or two later after you have driven it for some time and just observe the difference

The 2003 would have issues that i experienced here so definitely use this video as a reference. As of right now im hitting 125k and have had no engine issues but that doesnt mean that you shouldnt take a look under this car and inspect for any leaks. Look for puddles and drips and if you do see one dont hesitate to put your finger in it and smell.

For the windows to stay up, you have to flick the knob half way, if you flick the knob fully it will close and open back 1/4 of the way

Also make sure your oil gauge works. My oil pan gasket got screwed up about a week after I changed my oil. Oil drained, I had no idea...until my engine started knocking.

Rev-up G35s have Nismo Cams. The aggressive cams are the cause for the oil burning.
