It's why I really don't want a remake. It would be technically proficient, probably a little better (I say as a lover of the anime, not so much the manga) but I think the music would just not be as good even if Kajiura did return to write it again. Don't believe me, look at the movie or the OVAs the music is barely there.
@@ShadowBlazer3000 I partially agree. Music pieces like Synchronicity and Kioku no Mori, both Kajiura's compositions, set the darker mood for Tokyo Revelations and Shunraiki. Given that these are gloomier than the original anime, I think it's rather adequate.
Now I want houseki even more, that song with keiko's current level would be insane (but nothing can beat cynical world, to bad this song never got a real chance live).

I won't pretend to be an expert in knowing this group because I'm not. I just watched a live performance with Wakana, and Joelle seems much more like a team player than Wakana when she performs. The vibe I got from Wakana and the way she carried herself on stage, her body language, is that she thought herself as the lead signer and she knew it. Am I wrong? Or maybe it's because of how this reprise puts more emphasis on other girls having a more prominent part?
I don't think this version is different, though. Somewhat the same as previous live version. But I agree with what you're trying to say about Wakana. Though if it's true, perhaps it's not her fault. Yuki Kajiura san's putting her as the lead singer too many times (on several songs which I think Yuriko Kaida would have done a very good jobs too if she's the lead). Or perhaps, it's just Wakana's characteristics which is more composed, and Joelle's more cheerful! 😄
This is a “hot take” I’m sure, but I have some suspicions as well. I often watch the singers to see how they react to each other, and guest artists, just to see what their body language says. To your question, vocally Joelle is more blended with Yuriko’s voice most especially in head voice, to the point that sometimes I’ve heard Joelle and thought it was Yuriko doing a lighter vocal part with less heavy vibrato. Wakana’s voice stands alone and is more suited to taking the lead melody than a support role in especially duet harmonies (contrast that with Keiko who’s the opposite, seeming to excel more at support and blending to the other singer most of the time). Temperamentally, I think Joelle is brighter and more other-focused (often looking across at the other singers in their recent lives), while Wakana seems more introspective and internally-focused, coming out of her shell to shine. I think she also has a high view of her ability and skill if you watch different lives. I also think she’s hard on herself as well if she feels she’s not doing her best, which I sense comes down to how she was trained to sing growing up (a lot of speculation, I know). She did seem to respect Yuriko, who is obviously a superior singer. Keiko’s the most obviously communicative of her admiration of guest singers while on stage, I’ve come to conclude. Anyways lots of thoughts.
