Glenn Gordon Caron was back on board for season 5 and it showed, it was actually a really good season and captured some of the 1st two seasons magic again and then got cut!!
@CBRVA83 She didn't tell them to fire him. She would be pissed because Glenn would work them sometimes 15-18 and some days even longer to film. And she had a young child at home and then became pregnant with twins. It was very much a boys club back then on the set and in many interviews, people who have worked on the set , actors and Curtis Armstron who played Viola, all said that it was these issues that caused tension on the set. Cybill would try to stick up for her character Maddie because they were making her mean and David a victim. Glenn would argue with her. Yet Bruce Willis often was allowed to have a say in how his character was portrayed...as said by Dana Delaney and others on the set at the time. It was the arguing and the way Glenn would run the set, giving out scripts half an hour before they filmed,the long hours on set , and being behind scheduling and costing so much money that made ABC fire Glenn Gordon Caron . Cybill Shepherd had nothing to do with that decision, except to complain about him.
Yeah but they've always needed the tease and the friction. They get off on it actually. He was clearly going over to her place to "spot her" and help her out by "washng her back." I think we all can imagine where things went from there. 😉
speaking of falling out of character - what about Take My Wife, that weird final kiss when she says "You have been practising... thank the girls for me!" -- seriously??
I know what you mean. She demeaned him too much, and that shaggy hair just didn't suit her. Not to mention she'd fallen completely out of character at this point. She stopped being Maddie and started being Cybil.
I really hate her hair... it makes me so sad how they casually talk about him going out... and what is that crap about "even David Addison is getting standards"?? And - another occasion she turned him down. They were not themselves any more.
He's not dating other women. It's a part of their banter, their romantic/sexual teasing. They know full well what they mean to each other by this point. She's told him she loved him and was jealous of the other woman he was helping in the hospital with him deciding to stay with her after she said she was wrong and the above I just mentioned. He's told her numerous times how much he loves her and he's proven it over and over again. They've lost a child together and when she worried about how it would effect their relationships he told her, "we'll be fine." Trust me, regardless ABC canceling the show, David and Maddie was a forever kind of thing.

GGC actually left the show after season four and never came back, because Cybill Shepherd told ABC to fire him!
