Wouldnt make any sense. Science wise Mars is way too small to hold onto an atmosphere. After all he also needs the codex to rebuild his race. He did the right thing, issue was the lacking awareness of the black hole bomb and supermans abilities. If the Kryptonian gang would just hide and absorb sunlight for some days before taking action there wouldnt be any resistance against them physically. Nam Ek would break Clark apart right away.
