"So long and thanks for all the beer, eh?" Happy New Year all, gotta be better than the last one. "Cooofffffeeee!!!!!!" Running hot. Steves Small Engine Saloon had something about that. Basically, cold saw, start it and immediately push hard into a cut. Worst thing you can do to a saw. Cold saw, start it, let it warm up, ease into the cut. Basically same thing with any engine: let it warm up before you redline. Tinman, thanks for sharing, here's hoping the air flows easily in the new year.

Lucky. Here in Europe we keep getting wind currents from middle-east/africa, so not even freezing cold outside, just damp af :( Where are the Siberian currents god damn it, feels like we had a 4 month long autumn so far lol.

Thanks! If I do the honing and sandpapering. Is it going to be gap between the piston and the cylinder? What is the minimum PSI for a trimmer / chain-saw to work? My cylinder in the trimmer had 45 PSI first. I changed the piston-ring and that did not much. Was up to about 55-60 something. After that I took 2000 grit on the cylinder and made it up to 75 PSI. That is where I am right now. I changed to 600 grit as I saw you did it.

Sharp edges not only cause scratches and or transfer, they also create stress risers. They also can cause hot spots which to lead to detonation.

Great job Tinman. Keep up the great work. I do tend to use coarse sandpaper after I get rid of the high spots. Not enough to take material off though. I’d like to think that adding some deeper grooves holds the oil a little better on the piston skirts. Looking forward to see how that echo turns out.

Awsome video as always! Had to break away today and go cut some firewood to take my mind off the garbage going on! Watching this channel and others really helps to get my mind off of things! Saw was cs680 Echo got bout 3 tanks through it! It runs really smooth, however if any of you guys pick a new one up they come tuned very lean at least mine was! Think will be pretty strong saw after few more tanks of fuel and a lil finessing of the muffler!

Not finding a piston is my problem. I bought my dad a Pioneer 1200A for Christmas back around 1975. The piston is a bit scuffed. I found a new cylinder, but the piston and rings seem to be unobtainable. I'd love to get it going in his memory.

If one sands the piston and cylinder too much will the likely results be piston slap and/or less compression than I had before I tore it down? I've just finished sanding the scoring on my Stihl 193t piston and cylinder because it had 90psi (have not yet installed and I'm awaiting a factory ring). I want to try and save the factory piston/cyl to reuse until I lose compression again and I also want to see what the results will be by attempting to clean and reuse. I figure if I use 40:1 mix it may give it a little more life.
