you know, the first couple videos i was like "Why doesnt he commentate" but I gotta say, it is very refreshing to just have a video that doesnt have some dude screaming in my ears about what hes doing
He's Finish, and what little speaking I've heard him do, his accent is extremely thick. He kind of reminds me of Vilma Banky. She was Hungarian silent film actress who couldn't make the transition to sound films because her accent was thicker than a bowl of frozen oatmeal.
Imagine sanding an aluminum plate , then having the belt grab the plate and shoot it off from your fingers which you are now pressing firmly on the moving belt.
Awsome work! It is nice to see someone do a restoration with a tool they didn’t “fast rust” and call it a restoration. Just a tip, the wedge you used in my opinion is way too large, or fat. I would never trust that for the life of me, but I do commend you for not making a brass or aluminum handle.
Wooden wedges will dry out and shrink, all that hammer actually needed was a new handle, which it didn't get!!!😂😂😂, hammers work just fine covered in rust or not, but if the handle breaks they're buggered!, round , thin handles like that one are not comfortable to use for any length of time, that was obviously a bit of broomstick fitted as a stopgap by a previous owner! , and you restored it!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Just opinion: The wedge was a bit too fat up top.. also, Ive had luck with putting a scrap of sacrificial wood on top of the wedge and hitting that instead of just a hammer strike on the wedge... that splits the wedge often. Still, it’s a good job. good luck..
just a suggestion on the sanding... so when looking at a spinde what you have that has a definite wobble toward the base. The slower you go the better.I turn mind down to 200 or or lower if your lathe allows. What is happening is that as you are sanding one the bowed part of your handle is getting sanded at higher speeds. You can get away with this at the higher grits because the grit is more raised but as you move up the ranks you will notice that more and more you are only getting one sided sanding with the wobble. A good way to combat this is to lower the speed and take some of the presser off of the tail stock another way to combat the wobble is to use your hand as a steady rest. A mistake that many turners make is to press even harder to take the scratches out. this is counter intuitive in that it creates heat and intensifies low grit scratches. Heat from this can provide a lot of issues such as warping the wood, causing uneven surface by exacerbating the wobble and even causing cracks in the wood. If you put a finish on your wood these issues become glaringly obvious in that the lower grits have created scratches that the higher grits cannot resolve. Sorry if you knew all this but I saw the wobble so figured Itd add my two cents, Love your stuff
I'm a Mason. I dunno of you sell the things you refurbish or what. But I'd love to have this. OS ot already gone to E-bay? I'm 5th generation and thos reminds me of something my grandpappy would've used
Maestro hola buenas noches cómo le puedo dejar ese brillo es que no tengo máquina solamente lo hago a mano pero no logro dejarle el brillo que usted ha dejado cuando pueda me contesta por favor un saludo Sevilla España
You'll get no sympathy from the others if you want their sympathy Look in the dictionary between shit and syphilis that's where you find their sympathy....I think you did a great job
That shaft is not big enough, you have a gap all the way round underneath, should have had a larger diameter, someone fitted the wrong one, I would have thought you would have rectified that. Great job on the head though.
you know, the first couple videos i was like "Why doesnt he commentate" but I gotta say, it is very refreshing to just have a video that doesnt have some dude screaming in my ears about what hes doing
Jet Edge he does just enough captioning. It’s one of the best restoration channels I’ve found.
Written captioning.
The captioning creates a mystique around him. And it makes his videos feel more understandable and funnier.

Most people would just recycle or plain throw out the old handle, I’m really happy you decided to restore the old handle.
have been watching restoration videos all night and this is the first video where the comments arent negative😂😂
I commend you for not doing a aluminum or brass handle
Thanks. SometimebI have to make "real" handles too.The handle would have been way too thin for aluminum one anyways.
CMM i understood that reference
Outstanding., another clean looking tool back in service....
Lots of these old videos i never watched was the reason why i came for the first time ever here
Nice and shiny. 👍👊🔨Good job again.
Thanks friend!
Pretty cool, man. #throwawaythethrowawayculture
0:33 I have the PO... Nevermind.
Ahahaha 😂 that hilarious
I quite like the cross design on the top of the handle. Makes it look rustic almost.
Beautiful restoration
Great job... should last a thousand years!
Thanks, I'm sure it will
@@OddTinkering how's it holdin' up?
A nice touch with the top that looks like the TF2 icon
A tip for the wedge, make it less blunt, just skinnier. Also when you're tapping the wedge in, you want to have less wood on top. It'll go in easier.
FYI-my dog is mesmerized by these types of videos
I enjoyed the wedge work! in the Past Ihave used hard cut masonaray nails.
Unique Hammer unique top hold lovely job
Awesome video!
That's a zombie basher right there!
Nice Job ...got to love those scouring pads :] Thumbs Up!!
Thanks! Yes they are really useful and save a lot of time if 100% flat surface is not needed.
Nice video. I don't I will ever do this but it was nice to watch.
Thank you!
Good Work Love Your Videos And You Have Incredibly Beautiful Hands ..😍😍🥰🥰
I'd say you got more than 50¢ worth. Looks great.
Great work buddy, wow!!!
I know they weren’t welding back then, but I bet that’s what Mjölnir really looked like.
Very nice, Good job!!!
Great work.
Thanks man
This is beautiful! I instantly subbed when I saw that polished finish. Great work!

Be careful, restoration videos are extremely addictive.
Yesss, just try one more of my videos...
@@OddTinkering Thats what I said to myself 5 videos ago.
Just one more, they said.
You won't get addicted, they said.
"Belt sander doesn't get everywhere"
Use sand instead.
Well done
Bravo very nice
I'm stealing the vise and wooden block method 5:09 cause that is the best
Thanks! I do it all the time. I'm glad you learned a new trick from my video
Good restoration 👍👍
Amazing work
Thank you!
After restoring, The Quality is pretty awesome!!!
good job , I like it
Imagine accidentally touching the sander in the beginning of the video.
Ouch.
when?
I've done that before, but on a disc sander. It rips a patch of skin off. Not very fun.
Imagine sanding an aluminum plate , then having the belt grab the plate and shoot it off from your fingers which you are now pressing firmly on the moving belt.
Karri Koivusalo im assuming that happened because thats way too detailed
@@alexwillsuffice yeah, it did.
Beautiful
good job with restoration, im curious in regards to the rotary tool used.. is it a Dremel..... and would you recommend buying one?

My friends looking at my science project: ooo so cool!! :)
How I see it: 0:33
Great video...Is there a reason you chose to go with the polished finish versus oil blackened?
Rgarding the hammer is it just me or was that hammer forged in separate pieces, reason I ask is from what looks to be welding/sodering work?
Definitely was welded together it seems
very nice.
You’re way better at this than I, but your initial wedge was 3x thicker than it needed to be. Still, it turned out nicely. Well done.
Great Music.
excelente trabajoo
Thank you
Help I watched 1 video and it's 5:20 A.M and I'm on my "last" video
It is handmade. Welded with two pieces of steel on a piece of pipe. Have you had a bricklayer test it?
there's something so endearing about the video chapters titled after what he has to say in the video about what he's doing
i know it's youtube automatically generating them but it's so absolutely adorable
Cool man

What did you put in the wood handle at 11:52?
I think a reuse this way is much better than thrown away, the handle might be made of oak, also the wedges must be same wood or stronger like redwood.
Love it :)
Thank you!
Even brand new hammers are not *that* brand new
long sleeves and turning machines , I to live dangerousle
Crear job.!! Why didn't you use rust removal this time?
there is space between the metal and the wood in the lower part and the handle split from the thick wedges.
This Hammers need no wedges ! The Handels hold like tomahawk handels. They are put in from the top.

The first instinct is to sharpen the tool when you begin. It is actually the last thing you should do when you finish.

The way the steel on the face of the hammer is muhroomed suggests that it is not hardened well.

We not gonna talk about how the top has the tf2 logo?
Very nice. I think you put too much polish compund.
1 wedge was enough for the job....4? crazy.
try hammer something see if it works or the head would just fall off again?

50 CENT!!!
Is it just me or does that hammer look like it was welded to the cylinder?
Just looks odd to me.
I noticed too. The hammer and the tail we're welded on to a section of pipe.
should have made new handle but nice ornament.
why? It is not rotten.

Usando lija de grano grueso y luego ir bajando a grano fino a pura mano con mucha paciencia se logra
Así como en el minuto 3:33 a pura mano desde grano grueso hasta grano muy fino, lleva mucho tiempo pero si le logra ese acabado
You can’t use that, you’ll scratch it, display only😉

I love the things you can just do without momma but with Dremel.
It's not the way, but it's a way.
its not even a forged head as you can see the welds find a good forged head next time. ps enjoyed the vid
