A LOT of comics that are dealing with actual depression use this sort of technique where they use their sadness as a joke. true facts- a sad geoff video is what i think made my relationship with my dad a lot stronger. i watched it, and i was like "fuck, man" and texted my dad to say that i loved him and that he was a good dad, and he ended up revealing to me that he's been really depressed about my little sister emotionally walling herself off from him and that it meant a lot to him. and ever since then, i've had more awareness of his feelings and i feel more like friends with him nowadays.

Millie and Geoff have, I think, the same relationship every teenage daughter and her dad have. Albeit a bit more brutally honest, but that's a trait they both have so it's not surprising.

I had the same issue of a dad that wanted nothing to do with me and initially had the same reaction. But at the same time shes almost a teenager and shes hitting puberty and getting to the stage where you want nothing to do with your parents and literally just want to be in your room on your own. Give it a few years and theyre gonna have the best relationship but this is just something a parent has to go through, just gotta remember shes a kid and when you're that age you do get selfish without realising how it feels for the parent

Sorry for bringing up a dead post but if you give a shit i'd like to give my opinion. My dad and I had an awesome relationship until I hit 12~ and around that age i really started getting into video games. At the same time i wanted to do less and less of what my dad wanted to do, he's athletic, nearly made it into the olympics, and he always wanted to go for runs and if you ask a 12 year old playing on a nintendo wii if he wants to go out for a run or play Zelda, i wonder which one he's gonna pick. And while you can see that as me not wanting to spend time with my dad, being selfish and spoiled, why am i suddenly the one who has to focus on making sure i spend time with him? If your child has a new hobby/interest why wouldn't you at least TRY to take an interest in it? Not ONCE in my ENTIRE life has my dad even asked to play a video game with me, the only times he's possibly done it (Since i don't actually remember if he has) was if I asked. I can't say whether Geoff did or didn't take an interest in Millie's life and her interests, but from my perspective, if you want to be a part of your childs life then maybe you should take the time to at least pretend you care about their things, you don't completely stop trying to be involved with your childs life just because they don't want to do your shit then question why they don't wanna spend time with you. I know this is old, but it makes me so sad for Geoff. I'm older now so I grew from it, but I always wished my dad cared enough to want to bond and love me like Geoff does with Millie.
This is why I enjoyed the New Super Mario Bros Wii U series in July so much. I liked seeing Geoff happy and having fun. Sure, it had to come at the expense of Michael, Jack, Ryan, Gavin and Jeremy’s sanity and patience but it was well worth it to see Geoff smile even for a few minutes.

I'll admit that I actually cried a little when I heard this story even though he was telling it in a kinda 'funny, cheery' tone. I just kinda put myself in Geoff's shoes, and if my daughter talked to me that way, I'd be destroyed.
I'm torn between finding this funny and going into depression.
Yeesh... I hope Geoff didn't ACTUALLY let Millie get away with that because, if so, then I fear she's totally right. By allowing her to completely palm off any and all responsibility for being shitty to her own father, Geoff is essentially shaping her into a nasty, nasty human who'll likely have little or no regard for people in general (but especially men) in the future.
Thing is, you combine this with the 'flooded closet' story that Geoff told at the end of Minecraft 299 and I'm starting to get the impression that Millicent may not be shaping up to be the most responsible or well-behaved adult. Just saying.

And then Brandon (in a rare instance I actually agreed with something that came out of his mouth) dared to point out to Griffin that that may not be the healthiest attitude to teach Millie. It's like I can pit these two polar opposite opinions against each other and see what they say. I had the same issue of a dad that wanted nothing to do with me and initially had the same reaction. But at the same time shes almost a teenager and shes hitting puberty and getting to the stage where you want nothing to do with your parents and literally just want to be in your room on your own. Give it a few years and theyre gonna have the best relationship but this is just something a parent has to go through, just gotta remember shes a kid and when you're that age you do get selfish without realising how it feels for the parent

Sorry for bringing up a dead post but if you give a shit i'd like to give my opinion.
My dad and I had an awesome relationship until I hit 12~ and around that age i really started getting into video games. At the same time i wanted to do less and less of what my dad wanted to do, he's athletic, nearly made it into the olympics, and he always wanted to go for runs and if you ask a 12 year old playing on a nintendo wii if he wants to go out for a run or play Zelda, i wonder which one he's gonna pick.
And while you can see that as me not wanting to spend time with my dad, being selfish and spoiled, why am i suddenly the one who has to focus on making sure i spend time with him? If your child has a new hobby/interest why wouldn't you at least TRY to take an interest in it? Not ONCE in my ENTIRE life has my dad even asked to play a video game with me, the only times he's possibly done it (Since i don't actually remember if he has) was if I asked.
I can't say whether Geoff did or didn't take an interest in Millie's life and her interests, but from my perspective, if you want to be a part of your childs life then maybe you should take the time to at least pretend you care about their things, you don't completely stop trying to be involved with your childs life just because they don't want to do your shit then question why they don't wanna spend time with you.
I can completely understand Millie assuming the same sort of situation is happening, if it IS the same then Geoff essentially gave Millie the opportunities to find things she likes, ignored them, asked her to do shit HE wants to do with her because "she might like it" and then questions why after years of doing his shit, she wants to do her own stuff now, especially if her dad keeps annoying her to do stuff HE wants to do instead of taking the time to ask what SHE would want to do with him.

Don't Millie and Geoff basically have the same interests anyway? TV, youtube, video games, etc? It sounded like Geoff didn't even care what they did and was willing to do whatever just to spend time with her. I don't think this is that kind of situation. This is why I enjoyed the New Super Mario Bros Wii U series in July so much. I liked seeing Geoff happy and having fun. Sure, it had to come at the expense of Michael, Jack, Ryan, Gavin and Jeremy’s sanity and patience but it was well worth it to see Geoff smile even for a few minutes.
I loved that series. The catharsis from Geoff made up for the suffering of everyone else.
I hope this is just like, a "rebellious teen" thing, and only just that, that was pretty damn mean, and I know there are a good amount of parents who wouldn't take that from their children, or at least would only take it to an extent.
