Today's acoustic music talent pool is unfathomably deep. Every week lately I've heard something as humbling as it is inspiring.
These chaps play with soul and skill unmatched by any other group of musicians, shame about the distortion.
This is one truly amazing band!!!
NOTE: The sound quality improves around 2:05
❤ I’m speechless every time I hear these guys.
Oh my gosh. Thank you, The Kennedy Center, so much for posting this on TH-cam. These guys are the epitome of musical genius and talent. "...A need being met you didn't know you had." Chris Thile hit the nail on the head there.
This is amazing, I went to Punch brothers live in Lincoln NE I love Chris and his playing
The Kid A cover is one of the most amazing things ever.
The sample of ‘On the Bound’ from 21:40 is incredible. I am here for more Punch Brothers/Fiona Apple collabs.
Thank you past self for sharing the timecode of this bit. It has been very useful for future self!
I think it would be my dream come true if Radiohead covered The Punch Brothers...
this is a fantastic perfomance wow:DLOL
that first song was so metal
That "Kid A" cover was spot on. Great stuff!
What an amazing, impressive band! Love hearing their advice and their performances, although that microphone really needs some adjusting in terms of levels. It's so loud.
Love the story of where "My Oh My" came from and Chris's metaphor about standing on a rug. I also cracked up at 26:02 when Chris is hitting himself in the face. Paul Kowert looks so alarmed.
Good comment. Yeah, I bet the sound tech guy doesn't usually have to account for ensembles that utilize such a wide range of dynamics.
Wonderful dynamics!
so refreshing.
Gabe said it best. Change one person, and it will be a different band. The sum of the whole is greater than the individual abilities.😊
Absolutely invaluable!
It would be even greater if anyone transcribed the questions asked. At least, non-native English speakers like me would definitely appreciate.
I'm about to watch this through again, I'll comment them for you as they happen
13:40 or so
How much do you use sheet music/with the arrangements how much is composed vs how much is improvised?
Is there anything in your approach as Punch Brothers that would distinguish you from other great musicians
39:30 how important is it for you all to play in lots of different bands and projects
HEY KENNEDY CENTER.....WHAT"S THE DEAL??! Whoever recorded this needs to get their "S**T" together. The levels were distorting a lot. These guys are so amazing, they deserve to be heard cleanly.
That mic is clipping hard on the recording
This is beyond amazing...did the other workshop on "How to sing with others" get recorded?
The audio is from some house mic somewhere.... None of the Dynamics or clarity from the stage mic. Somebody forget to hit record? Pretty unlistenable... Oop. Made it to 2:05. Thanks! Great content! Please give whoever missed starting the record a wet Willy from me!
Nice
@60 my musical ear tells me they are shit hot!!!
No unlikes, that's right world!!!
I think maybe... just maybe... the recording engineer shoulda done a sound check. Still, they were awesome. As usual.
Why did you take the American Acoustic: How to Sing with Others down? (made private)?? :(
Exemplary.
Why was the how to sing with others video with Chris, Sarah, and Aoife removed, if I may ask?
Booooo🙄
Here's a tracklist of all the songs they played in full:
00:14 No More. Yet
04:59 My Oh My
09:39 Boll Weevil
33:41 Kid A (Radiohead cover)
54:39 Movement and Location
1:06:19 Passepied (Debussy)
Finally a good live video of No More. Yet, thanks for recording (and uploading) this!
