In January 2005 the US Army created the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division. The 10th Mountain Division (Light) remains the most deployed division in the history of the US Army.
4th Brigade consisted of the Brigade Headquarters, 2-4 Infantry Battalion, 2-30 Infantry Battalion, 3-89 Cavalry Regiment, 5-25 Field Artillery Regiment, 94th Brigade Support Battalion, and the Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB).
The BSTB provides Brigade level combat support operations such as Military Police, Chemical/Biological Recon, Combat Engineers, Military Intelligence Support, and Brigade Communications/Network Support.
Many of the 4/10 and BSTB soldiers would remain together from late 2004 until spring 2009. The brigade would complete three combat deployments, uncounted training exercises, as well as living, exercising, drinking, and fighting together. In comparison, the core group of Easy Company 2-506th, the "Band of Brothers" spent less than 3 years together.
This is the first part of their story, covering the creation of the unit up to their return from the first two deployments in February of 2007.
Historical note, the 4th Brigade 10th Mountain was redesignated the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division on February 24th, 2015. Fort Polk, Louisiana was redesignated Fort Johnson on June 13, 2023. Our accounts retain the designations of these units and locations as they were at the time.

Excellent documentary! Amazing what a group of young guys can go through and the bonds that develop. Thank you and all your fellow soldiers for your service and sacrifice. You should pitch this video to PBS. It's the best one I've seen showing what it was really like. Thank you!

Thank you sir for sharing your and fellow veterans personal experiences while deployed! We civilians can never understand fully what you have experienced, but any education is better than no education on the matter! We are forever indebted to our military individuals for their sacrifices and service. My father served in Patton's army during WWII and shared a few of his experiences. I see you all as heroes and hold you in the highest regards! Again, thank you sir for all you have done!
