    Agreed, this draft class looks like the best top to bottom class of the Shanahan/Lynch era. They'll need the 25 class to be similarly good. Fortunately, this class looks deep in the areas where the 9ers need the help most. Outside of one or two players, I really hope the 9ers trade down in the first rd in order to get extra picks 2-4.

    Hey David I agree to a point. You have to give the rookie class another year to see how they play out. A good start however. Cheers

    Pearsall, Puni, Green, Mustapha are big wins. I'm not convinced about Guerendo, can he learn some patience before he blasts into crowded holes, is he strong enough to survive his first hit? Cowing, not sure...Thanks David, this is really good analysis. Easy to forget all about big picture victories...it's also cautionary about expectations for the '25 draft; with a reasonably good team, few draftees are able to play their rookie season at a pro level. I'm more excited to see who Management can bring in via trades and free agency. Happy New Year!

      Guerendo has been awesome. He's barely played the position and was still really productive. He can turn a 4 yard screen pass into a td. He's gonna be a really good player as well as the rest.

    Puni is too good to be stuck at guard.
    It's not a hard position to fill.
    Puni's awareness and movement skills and technical prowess project him as a ten-year star at Center. We have such a need at center, and he would just kill it.

      Plus, that would open up a spot at possibly both guard spots where they can find massive upgrades (not over Puni specifically, but just relative to what they've had).
      Sign Trey Smith from KC, Puni to center, and draft a LT that can play LG and move out to LT when Trent is gone.

    Now, it’s time to look forward to free agency. Twenty players will become free agents, including Greenlaw and Huffigna. Next year, Kittle will also be a free agent.
    The reality is that within the next two years, this roster can be completely overhauled, with the exception of a few veterans.

  • @bassheart365
    @bassheart365 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    They have a plethora of horrible high picks in recent years, e.g. Lance, Moody, Latu, Kinlaw. Lance rates as one of the all-time biggest draft blunders.

    • @crystalballers
      @crystalballers 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Solly was an all time bad decision, and so was Foster, for different reasons. Purdy an all time great pick, he is everything they hoped for and took over the role they had for Lance, and it's not reasonable to complain about that. There was nothing wrong with the decision process in selecting Kinlaw even if it didn't work out, though I think trading Buck was always a gamble, the strategy was not flawed. You evaluate decisions and they don't always work, but if you make good decisions repeatedly they will work out over time. It's all you can control. And the current rookie class is as good as any in 40 years for this team. They have gotten way better over time since that first draft and that's what the take away should be.

    NFL competition thrives on change. Not For Long. Young gets old in a compressed frame. Don’t fall in love with your gems. Nurture your teaching coaches. For all of these reasons, BA and Deebo are bad investments. Only extend real blue chips. Williams, Warner, Greenlaw, Kittle, Bosa, and I’d project, Purdy. Surf the second year improvement wave and be ruthless about chronic injury. This isn’t my scheme. It’s Bill Walsh’s.

    McConkey is a much better athlete and player. Why didn't 49ers see that?
    Guerendo is not elusive and will never excel as a starter. His on-field ability fits the tight end position. Does no one else see him as a receiving tight end?

    • @outspoken117
      @outspoken117 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think with his speed, he was looked at as another Brieda type. He was never expected to be an every down back with CMC ahead of him, but could spring a long one late once the D-line was tired.

      Isaac Guerendo, a running back for the San Francisco 49ers, stands 6 feet tall and weighs 217 pounds.
      The average size of NFL tight ends typically ranges as follows:
      Height: 6’4” to 6’6”
      Weight: 245 to 265 pounds
      Tight ends need to be tall and strong enough to block effectively while also being agile enough to serve as reliable pass catchers. These attributes make them versatile players who can act as both linemen and receivers.

    How about we talk about the 49ers' 2023 draft class? JiAyir Brown, Jake Moody, Cam Latu, Darrell Luter, Robert Beal, Dee Winters, Brayden Willis, Ronnie Bell, Jalen Graham. None of them will be starters next season and almost all of them will not even be on the team. With Purdy taking up a lot of the salary cap from here on out, the Niners need quality starters on rookie contracts in order to be a legit contender. Looking at the 2023 and 2022 draft classes, it's not going to happen.

    • @itsthewestman
      @itsthewestman 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah no two ways about it - the 2023 draft was a stinker (although did get CMC with some of the capital). Top quality rookie players will want a new deal after year 3 so at least hitting on the most recent draft gives another couple of years where those players are locked in at low rates... if they continue to develop!
      Purdy aside, doesn't look like there will be any of the 2022 or 2023 draft classes banging the door down for big contracts this year/next year so, if 2024 crop produces Pro Bowl level talent, should be able to pay them long term from 2027 around the cap (Purdy included)...

    • @crystalballers
      @crystalballers 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Didn't the 49ers goto the SB with the best roster in the nfl? Which of those picks were in the first round or high second? You're expecting relatively low picks to play and be developed on a roster with zero holes. And your evaluation is lopsided. Moody was a day 1 starter and regardless what happens with the 49ers he will be a starter in the NFL for years if not decades. Dee played a lot this year and his story isn't written yet. Brown is a disappointment - he got plenty of run and just isn't that instinctive, but I wouldn't say he's a bust yet; he might still be a decent rotational player. I would have preferred they drafted oline but these picks were not crazy or reaches, they just haven't developed. Thats what happens on a roster of that caliber more often than not.

    • @bryce2922
      @bryce2922 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@crystalballers My point is once the Niners pay Purdy, they have to let almost all their talented free agents walk. The only way to remain a contender at that point is by having players on cheap rookie contracts fill in admirably for your talented veterans. Based on the 2022 and 2023 draft classes, it's not going to happen. 2024 draft class looks good so far but Lynch has to hit homeruns in the 2025 draft.
