When I saw that photo of Messi being lifted up by his teammates with the World Cup in his hand, instantly brought back that picture of Diego Maradona and him being lifted up and the World Cup in his hand. Brought a tear to my eye.
Yes, same. Diego in 1986 is an absolutely iconic image.
Did you knew that it actually wasn't a teammate that carried Messi around the whole time. It was Kun Aguero, who had to retire from football last year due to heart problems. AFAIC he was not with the team and I haven't found out yet how he managed to reach Messi like 15 seconds after Montiel had scored.
You can check the footage, he is wearing blue argentinian training pants and is running towards where Messi is on the pitch.

Great video, I had exactly the same sentiments regarding Maradona, so sad he was not here to see Argentina lift the World Cup. One of the outstanding memories for me of 2018 was Diego in the stands watching Argentina games getting so passionate and animated! Maybe he was watching from high today, glad Messi got the prize too. An amazing final both teams gave everything it will live long in the memory for sure!

Best world cup final ever. I was crying, screamin and looking away for 120 min plus. Nerve wrecking, and im just a norwegian. I was actually in Paris when France won the wc 4 years earlier. Absolute scenes
i feel bad for french people but this world cup was from Argentina, Leo gave his best and the team was pasional awesome. France won the previous world cup and no one can deny how great the French team is. Anyway, Messi is in the best moment of his career, at the top. This world cup is simply historic!

American living in Brazil. WC was effectively over the moment they were eliminated. "World Cup? What's that?" We had booked our Christmas break trip to Argentina months prior... as it happened we arrived in Buenos Aires the day before the big celebration. Something like 1 in every 11 Argentinians mobbed the main drag by the Obelisk. Every metro car was full of people in the Albiceleste singing.
Got more than a few smiles (and couple free beers) congratulating the locals on their Estrella Tercera.
They deserved it....Messi was the best player at the tournament. Great video Pegg. Love your channel.
