TH-cam suggested this video after I started your "Micing/Recording Acoustic Guitars" for Universal Audio that they're featuring in the UA Connect software. Really excited to see you start your own channel as I've learned a lot from your interviews. You communicate complex topics very well and always bring everything back to "does it sound good?"--which I need to hear as someone starting out.
I'm coming to music production after brain injury/surgery and my previous career was as a photographer so this text from the linked PDF makes so much sense: "To Jacquire, he thinks about capturing a recording almost like taking a picture. If the microphone is a lense, the preamp is the aperture and choice of film and light you use to capture an image."
Wow! Gr8 job finding the best compression. I didn’t hear much difference till I heard the last one. But gr8 sound and gr8 ears! I like the song n vocals also, which also makes ur job easier cause u don’t wanna pull ur hair out. lol Cool stuff!
Hey Jacquire, thanks for putting this out. This is all fantastic knowledge that you're sharing. I have a technical question regarding your preamp and patchbay setup. Do you run your preamps through your TRS patchbay(s) and connect the mic to the patchbay, or do you bypass all patchbays and connect the mic directly to the preamp? I'm setting up a home studio and am trying to decide what the "best" solution is for functionality, but also for the safety of the equipment. I've read that running phantom power through a TRS patchbay can potentially fry the electronics of other connected equipment if you're not careful with your patching, so it may be best to use an XLR patchbay (which can safely handle phantom power) for mics that run directly to the preamps. I've ran phantom power through TRS patchbays before and was very careful when setting up the signal flow, but I'm curious to know how professional studios and engineers like yourself approach that topic. Any insight you can share regarding patchbays/mics/phantom power would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance man.
Hey JK! Thank you for making these videos and for free! I appreciate you! You’re the best! 🙏
Absolutely great series man!
👊
Thanks for a great Master Class and a BIG ''WASSUP'' to Graham , The Recording revolution helped me a lot when I started.

Thank you, this is wonderful
Thank you sir!
sounds great
Great insight and the API 512V was an eye opener for pre-amps for my raps!
Great to hear!

Everything goes through the patchbay. It’s high quality mogami wire and the patchbays are from Redco.
Obviously you need to be careful with phantom power but done correctly the patchbay is the professional setup. Best wishes! 🤙
You did a great job!!!
What are your favourite vocal compressors (on the way in/mixing)?
Thank you for what you give us!
1176 variants, LA2A, Retro 176, & UA 176 are the main ones but I’ll find whatever sounds best if those don’t feel great
So will you go through the selection process for every song hes singing? Or would it automatically stay the same for a full album?
Stay the same
Aaaahm
WHAT headphones is he using ?
Does someone who’s seen this recently know? I’d have to rewatch
They look like Direct Sound headphones. Possibly EX-29?
Thanks
so the dynamic mic lost to a dynamic singer?what a hypocrite mic!🙄
