Exactly this. For gods sake.. give this thing in the hands of one good UI designer to fix this. This UI looks like many people with many opinions and less knowledge built it. And I really hate to say this, because its open source and I am sure, everyone is triying to do a good job and make it better. But as a professional graphic designer, I still need to have Windows tools running in a VM or using Wine to be able to work on Linux, and the Wine UI/UX is the biggest problem by far. Inkscape did a better job on this.
@@schockschwerenot Hi! Yes, we need someone to buy out or just combine Gimp and Inkscape. Made of them a common package of programs, with a similar common photoshop-like interface and brought to mind.
Eh, it's grown on me back in Gimp v1. I like having a clear toolbox and to the left and a clear layers panel to the right, and I enjoy using the classic "File, Edit, Select..." bar at the top. The thing about its layout that annoys me the most is the palettes and gradients window top right. That thing is so frustrating. But for me, the worst layout I've seen so far is AffinityPhoto. Maybe I just haven't gotten used to it, but when I see a colleague working with it, I think "wtf is even going on here"
Literally this... technical issues aside, how am I supposed to make beautiful looking graphics if the environment I'm working in is such a mess? I mean it's possible, but it definitely feels like dumpster diving vs buying something at a store... I mean at the very least it could feel like thrifting vs what it is now.
I have been unable to use any version of GIMP after 2.10.32 (on Windows 10, and on both my laptop and desktop). Every time I update to the latest release, I lose all ability to type anything into GIMP including adding/editing layer names and using the Text tool at all. I end up uninstalling the newest version and reinstalling 2.10.32 so I can use the program. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so is there a solution? I have Googled myself out trying to find one or get an answer to find a fix. Thank you and Happy Holidays!
02:39 Just a question: HTML notation does only describe 256 shades (8 bits) pr base color and opacity, but how is this supposed to work if the swatches is described by greater color dephts?
I just installed 2.10.36 after using 2.10.22 for some time. The first thing I looked for was my favorite plug in, "filter pack" which was removed from the Filter or Colors menu since v 2.8 but could still be found using Help/Search and run a command. Now it seems to be gone!
@@DaviesMediaDesign Filterpack.exe is still in the "GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\filter-pack" directory but clicking on that or any plugin to install it gives me a code execution system error in Windows 10 because: "libgimpui-2.0-0.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program might fix this problem." However, I see that file in the Gimp 2\bin and Gimp 2\2\bin subdirectories. Is it possible that filter pack only works with a 32 bit install, or maybe since I customized the install and created a different folder, it can only be recognized with a default install whether it's 32 or 64 bit?
I'm just waiting for when/if the ability to edit text layers with blending effects 'on the fly' is added/backported. While I love GIMP, this feature is available in every other graphic manipulation program I can think of... PS, Affinity, Photopea... it's about time GIMP gets that featuire.
I get the post noti for this and it just says what’s new in (the version), but no “Gimp” to let me know it’s for Gimp. Is it really that redundant to write gimp.

@@maboleth I am a Mac user. The brush on the Gimp 2.10 kind of lags when I move my digital pen and mouse around. Even the lines drag when I do fast cross hatching. I didn't set my brush to 1000 + pixels or more and I have Smooth Stroke feature deselected. Also, I have Gimp 2.99.16. ( upcoming Gimp 3.0) When I draw on that version, I get no lag. The strokes come out so smooth, and it had no problem doing fast cross hatching.

been checking the news on when Gimp 3 will be out for years now, cant wait!
I look at the Gimp interface and want to cry. For so many years they could not find a ui-designer and make it beautiful and convenient.

I hope they made a bigger splash screen for the next major update. I really love this software.

table of contents worrked instantly on linux and reasonable internet, thats Just FYI, glad about all those changes, keep up the great work MD!
Good to know. It’s definitely made for Linux so it’ll work best on there
When will Gimp get (saveable, shareable, downloadable, uploadable...) text styles? (text effects) (Something like ASL text styles in Photoshop.)
After this update, I've not been able to insert Unicode characters😢
Nonsquare grids... Uh... Is that PAR? aka Pixel Aspect Ratio? Or is it resolutions where width != height?

I hope this was the last release before the next 3.0 but... We'll see... probably in 2035 😀
According to ZeMarmot’s Patreon this was likely the second-to-last 2.10 release (so one more before 3.0)

You may simply need to reinstall it, but there's the possibility it's no longer compatible. I'm not sure.

Updated! Thank you kindly++
again thank you Dave
Is there a way to make this verson look like Legacy Gimp and not PhotoGimp please?

May 2024.

Good catch. Just fixed it. Thanks!
any word when Gimp 3.0 will be ready?
No official word. If I were to guess realistically I’d say summer 2024
Or trial gimp 3.0 by using gimp 2.99. The current mod is 16.
@@johnmarten4184 I got me the 17 nightly build as there was certain issue that was a problem for me (wacom device related)...
PhotoGIMP should be the default

Gimp has a lot of advanced features but the most ugly UI User interface it looks archaic in 2024
Did the developers from GIMP straighten out the brush lag problem that a lot of digital tablet owners keep facing?
Not sure what you mean? It usually isn't laggy until you enlarge your brushes to 1000+ pixels or more.
