I was bummed. No matter the outcome I was excited to see if this could kid could do it...and then he got injured. Sucked the fun out of the game. I hope he's ok and heals quickly.
As an eagles fan I was bummed to see him injured I wanted a duel match between the qbs but I give him props for going back in
The game instantly became an insufferable slog after that. So disappointing
This was such a terrible day for 49er fans. Plus Purdy may miss most of if not all of next season. So demoralizing and just sad. He got hurt on like the 2nd or 3rd offensive play for us. One of the worst days as a 49ers fan.
@Mr Sinister I hope they keep him in their roster he was great this season as I said it was a bummer he got injured
@Mr Sinister you have trey lance idk why y’all giving up on him yall have a bright future
I'm a Eagles fan and I'm glad we won but man I feel bad for Purdy and Niners fans. It would've been way cooler to beat them at full strength and the game might not have been such a boring grind. Hope Purdy recovers fully and has a long career, he was such a fun story this year
Just do us one more favor. Manhandle the chiefs!
@skip dog
Don't do the 49ERS any favors.
They're DOP JL AND HC KS WITH STAFF ARE IRRESPONSIBLE TO THE PLAYERS AND CAUSES THE THEM TO SUFFER MULTIPLE INJURIES.
THATS DUE TO JL SHOWING THE 49ERS PLAYERS AN OLD 20 YEARS FILM WHEN HE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIPS SERIES AND SB LOMBARDI TROPHY WITH THE TBB.
WHEN THE 49ERS PLAYERS REACH ANY CHAMPIONSHIPS SERIES THEY MUST REMEMBER TO SUCCEED NO OTHER WAY THAN THE 49ERS WAY.
NOT THE 9ERS WAY OR THE TBB AND AF WAY BUT THE 49ERS WAY.
THE 9ERS FANS SHOULD GET OUT OF DODGE WITH THAT MINDLESS LOGO BECAUSE THAT IS PARTLY THE REASON THE 49ERS CAN NOT GET THE 6TH SB LOMBARDI TROPHY.
AFTER THE 49ERS WON THEIR 5TH SB, NFL TEAMS AND THE FANS CURSED THE 49ERS BY LABELING THEM WITH THAT 9ERS STUFF.
THATS IS DISRESPECT TO THE 49ERS ORGANIZATION AND IT SHOULD STOP BECAUSE ITS NOT HELPING THE TEAM.
@CG ALLAH most sane youtube commenter
@skip dog hell no this time i want chiefs to man handle the dirty birds
@Centralcoast that superbowl is still an open wound for me. Mahommes is the new Brady of the league. He’s yet to play a road playoff game cause of how stupid the playoff structure is.
I feel bad for him. He literally could only hand off the ball with his left hand after the injury. How many teams lose 4 quarterbacks.
We need to invest in some better offensive linemen
@Joe Miller Some people are questioning Kyle's play calling. Why are all 4 quarterbacks getting hurt.
@Karen Hardie well I have 2 but purdy's was kinda just unlucky. If he didn't go down game was winnable but Kyle had no confidence in the 4th string and emergency QB apparently didn't know the playbook. When that happens you gotta change the play calling.
I don't think it's Kyle. He's the reason our offense is so strong to begin with.
We do need better O-Line though. McGlinchy been fucking us up all year
Washington bck in 2019 or 18 I forgot we had Alex smith get hurt mark sanches get hurt josh Johnson get hurt colt mocoy got hurt
Even as a Seahawk fan I was rooting for him - just a great story. I hope this doesn't impact him too much going forward as i'd love to see some great Seahawk/49er games in the future with him in it.
I’m with ya. Soon as the Vikings lost I was all in on the 49ers. I was actually so excited and stressed during the cowboys game you would think I was a die hard niners fan if you saw me haha
@Andrew Hagemeister Yeah i too was pulling for 49ers mostly due to Purdy. Its crazy to imagine next year Geno vs Purdy and both considered good QBs. Crazy.
@John-Paul C 👀👀 can’t wait.
Nick Mullens was injured in a similar way and had to have surgery, Purdy said in the post game he felt shocks up and down his arm. Hope he’s ok 😢
he'll be fine
@Wickedirish thanks for giving us reassurance Doc!
Allen also had a similar injury and didn't need surgery, so we'll see
@jkuzem96 not the same because he hurt his just throwing
He’s toast
Yea, this literally killed the game for me. I was so excited about the story and wanted to see the success play out to the bowl.
As an Eagles fan I couldn’t be happier… but not about this - not at all. I think 49ers fans, neutral football fans as well, got robbed of a classic QB duel, that in the end could’ve gone either way. The good news here is, in all likelihood, nowadays this injury is very fixable, and this young man has heart. I really think that the Brock Purdy story has only just begun!
@James M your a real one bro, getting trolled like crazy by many eagles fans, tough game to swallow after all that excitement throughout the week to see Purdy play this big game.
@James Myou couldn’t be any more wrong. Brock Purdys legacy just ended with him taking himself out of the game. Dudes a whole bit** and needs to find a different profession. Bc this football thing is over for him😂
@Steve Bailey Depends. It shows character to go to the sideline and know whole heartedly that him throwing the football could be a detriment to the team. I had a flexor tendon injury last year, (The best case scenario for this injury according to the doctor) and I can’t even imagine throwing a football within the first week or so that it happened.
Nonetheless I sort of hate that this injury takes away from what Haason reddick did on that play with a massive QB strip which entirely shifted the tides of the game. It would have been so fun to see how Purdy reacted to the circumstance and tried to come out and lead a comeback.
@Pureloor no. You stay in the game bc you got that dog in you to keep pushing for your team. Dude got a boo-boo on his funny bone and took him self out like a punk. He was scared to play he actually got hit in the mouth in the NFL and he took himself out the game. How do you not see that.
It’s really too bad, we never got a real conclusion to Purdy’s rookie story. I hope he recovers quickly, because I still think he could be a force to be reckoned with next year.
He's got a lot to learn in defensive reads and check downs. Even if he played the whole game, the 9er's had no chance of winning this. Eagles D was too tough. I'm not an Eagles fan but I had them picked all the way in this one. I'm hoping the Chiefs can beat them andMahomes ankle is fine sohe can roll out and perform his magic. Only way they can win.
I can’t believe all of the injuries this season. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
Thanks for the video!
This has been a terrible season to be a 49'ers quarterback in terms of injuries.
I wish they would have let Christian McCaffrey be the QB. It would at least make the game more interesting.
@R Nieves they gave him one play he chucked it into the ocean
Get a better o-line
@Teslacoils not a receiver in sight 😂
Who would wanna be a 49ers QB in the future? That position is CURSED!!! 😱
This was devastating. Not just for Purdy, but for our 9ers :(
Torn UCL.
I love this kid! He did so well just to be injured!
Shanahan is a good coach but man. He has some god awful injuries under his team. Talk about bad luck. Since N. Bowman knee injury we've been cursed.
Thanks doc! You got this out fast! Really a heartbreaking end to this season for us 49er fans. We didn't get the game we were promised. Wasn't going to be too upset with a loss, but really expected it to be a competitive game. Hopefully he doesn't require tommy john surgery and have to miss next season (or worse).
It really shows the depth of the 49ers QB room. This was the 3rd Qb and he almost got them to the Superbowl. Trey Lance started the year and he's now an afterthought
For now. He’ll compete for the starting job in training camp. I bet he wins it back too
@T-Twizzy I love that we have 2 good qbs, but I really wanna watch Trey start and succeed
What QB?
Well Trey is no longer an after thought but this also opens the door for Brady or Rodgers
@Papa Smurf keep Brady away. And they don’t have the draft picks to get rodgers. Or the salary cap
Seeing Brock’s injury killed me. He could’ve been the first starting rookie rookie to win a Super Bowl and made history.
As my dumb high school coach would say..." You have a LEFT ARM, DON'T YOU? Now we all run 10 laps because he doesn't know he has a left arm."
In high school, I jumped for a ball and my elbow came down on the defenders shoulder pad and my hand clawed up. Instant burning and screaming. I still have issues with my pinky and ring finger at times. Hope he heals well.
What was it after all ? And do you still have problems with it ?
@2sheisty.Izayyah Did you not read the whole comment?
@God Pharaoh Ryan the first part of his question is still valid lol. He asked what the specific injury was
That’s nerve damage and the pain feels like a electric charge yea I was hurt wile fighting in Iraq and that was the worst pain ever literally blew my elbow up with n AK round and it felt like a thousand volts shooting uo my arm into my brain letting me know . Then they gave me Morphine and I was good to go jk the med flighted me out
I’m your average youth coach. I’ve always had a deep interest in the care and prevention of athletic injuries since I took a college class of the same name in 1978. You’re channel has given me a very large of new knowledge.
Thank you,
IDr Sutterer.
Thanks for breakdown. What a shame this had to end the 49ets and Purdys storied season. We could have really got to ser if he would be our #1 next year. Now it's a battle between he and Lance for next season. I think Trey wins job regardless cause of his legs and arm strength, but Brocks value would have sky rocketed if not injured. This team is in great position for next few years.
Love your educational posts.
You explain your thoughts extremely well and easy for a layman to understand.
Thank you 👍😊✌️
0:59"which might be a sore point for 49ers fans of course"...
as a niner fan this whole game was nothing but pure pain
The Eagles made sure he has plenty of time to heal. I'm sure we'll see Purdy next season. I wish all the best for him.
@Brian Sutterer / your efforts to produce and publish the NFL injury reports are greatly appreciated. Your diagnosis and comments really help in understanding the injury.. It is never good to see anyone injured however it is important to understand to what happened to the player. Thanks
Glad we got the happy surprise over the last part of the season with Brock, but it was bound to catch up to him - especially when facing the teams they did during the playoffs. That's a lot for a third string rookie all of a sudden having to carry his team. It's going to be pretty interesting to see how this plays out with a healthy Trey Lance and (hopefully) Purdy come training camp. I just hope to God they don't do something dumb like signing Brady.
first watched your channel as a result of the Bills game. It's awesome watching you diagnose these things spot on in real time.
Thanks Doc! News outlets are reporting his injury as a 'complete tear' (presumably as opposed to a partial tear) of the UCL, requiring surgery. Would you clarify what that verbiage means anatomically and what Brock's recovery trajectory is likely to be?
Your breakdowns are top notch! 👌
This doctor is a genius, pretty much nailed the UCL,good job, keep doing this, fascinating!
For several years my elbow has felt like it is broken. Your video has shown me what it might be and I'm thankful.
It was a bummer to be honest. As an Eagles fan, I know exactly the feeling. Everybody wanted to know how Wentz would carry himself in a playoff game, then all of a sudden, boom.. concussion, out of the game.
Appreciate, your info. Doc. I’m not a true Niner fan ,but my best friend is from there so I’ve always rooted for them since he is. Wishing Purdy’s family, team and fans the best.
I had a baseball coach (when I was about 8 years old) who didn't like my short arm pitching style, so he taught me how not to do it by stopping my arm mid throw if I short armed it. Not a good dude based on your great video, lol. Love your videos Doctor, will always be a subscriber! We need some "The TH-cam Doctor" gear (that's your nickname 😄)!
He did return... but only handed the ball off. Wish we could've seen both teams play at their best, would've been more fun to watch but it is what it is.
He really didn't come back in he showed up there was no other choice wich is horrible . As a nfl fan there should never be no more quarterbacks available that's not football
As a 49ers fan I’m more upset that he couldn’t go than I am that we lost. Not having a healthy QB at all hurts worse because we had no chance.
@Himji Winsmoke - Ong!! Then James Richard Garoppolo 🗑 Azz couldn’t go,probably wasn’t there. I HATE HIM
Maybe the niners should be better. Get a better o-line that will protect their qbs.
@donworryboudat hits happen
thanks for this breakdown, (i know it’s not a formal diagnosis), im an eagles fan and was really curious as to what the injury was because purdy remained in his pads and even returned. feeling for him.
Screw the Eagles
Praying for a speedy recovery Purdy! That tommy John shit can suck it! You're going to be good, I guarantee it!!! God gotchu cause you deserve it!! Keep your head up King! Go Niners!
As a Niners fan, I was bummed to hear he got hurt. Hope they can make it to the SB next season.
They need to sign Brady and they will win next Year's Super Bowl. Give Lance and Purdy a chance to recover and learn under Tom. Then let the best one of those young QBs eventually take over.
@Game Time 49ers OL and backup TE would get Brady killed..
@Ai' Mor Boon Brady releases the ball quick, and he's never bad the running game the Niners would provide. Niners could also focus on drafting offensive linemen. Gronk may follow Brady, one of the best blocking TE ever.
He’ll be ready to go next year. Had a great record this year.
he won't play next year
Not if he needs tommy johns surgery
Yes next year
I'm interested to see the durability of Purdy. To see if he can stay healthy for an entire season plus post season. He's a lil guy so it will be interesting.
If he needs Tommy John's he's out for the year
The worst case scenario happened to us 49ers fans 😭
It was about three thirty in the morning in Thailand when Brock got injured and I went back to bed right away because the game was unofficially over. I knew Brock was out for good from that game since he walked to Shanahan and then the team's doctors to explain his condition as if he knew how bad it could be. When I saw the confirmation from the replay of how his throwing arm was tangled, I knew the game was over and as expected a lopsided. 49ers were so unlucky. It was a battle of 2 best defenses in the league that I expected a low scoring close game. Now hope that nothing like this would happen again in SB because now we have two number-one-seeded teams gutting each other out. Can't wait.
By the way this clip is pretty good in explaining how the injury occurred. This is one the QBs' bad injuries season, including Hurts and Mahomes II.
These videos are really nice and well made and its also a good lesson about these injuries
If you're going to win, you have to be ready to put the hit on the other team. Reddick did nothing wrong, and the hit was clean. Game Over from that point. I feel a bit up set for Purdy and hope he comes back a bit stronger and a bit wiser.
Spot on doc, he's got a full tear. Can you do a video comparing what's done in a repair vs a reconstruction?
I have had a UCL injury. Still hurts 30 years later.
Thank you for educating us, doctor. Very much appreciated 👍🏻
Well be back Purdy get looked at rehab and reload for next year gotta have faith Niner FAITHFUL
@Bill Rausch - yup 👍🏻
after Brock was hurt I knew it was over like the rest of us...Hope he gets better..
Wait a second , everybody said insert any QB into this system & you could win . Bullshit . This proves it .
@chopper enduro No, its insert at least a decent QB, if not a good QB. The O and D lines are solid, But Johnson was absolutely terrible. He looked completely lost out there... Game analysts are now saying if they can sign 46 year old Brady this off-season, they could still have very high chance for SB. At least Brady can still make accurate plays, unlike Johnson.
Thank you for making sense out of Purdy's injury 😭 I'm sooo hurt! I believe that he was a target from the beginning because the Eagle's KNEW that they had a GOOD chance of losing with Purdy in the game.. 💔
Target for what? Get sacked like every other QB? DE's go for edge sacks. There is nothing new for football.
Every QB is a target, that’s just part of the game. Shame Purdy got hurt because it made for a crappy game.
The plan was to take him out for good 🤫
Maybe having George Kittle block Haason Reddick, instead of backup tight end, game would of turned out different? Looks like Shanahan coach mistake to me!
Love this content, have you thought about doing videos on common sports injuries? Like tennis elbow etc
Eagles fan here, that was tough to see. Hate to see a QB go out like that in the NFC championship game. It's even worse that he was essentially forced to come back in since Johnson also got hurt. I'm glad my team won but I would rather have seen a hard fought game between the 2 teams vs being pretty much decided by an injury in the 1st quarter.
Hi Doc - thanks for the video. In your professional opinion do you think the QB has to be better protected by the rules of the game. Seems like you are saying that any time the QB is in that right-angled elbow winding up to throw, then his elbow is super vulnerable to this kind of tackle. I.e. what looks like a simple attempt to bump the ball now takes this athlete out of the game for up to a year, and who knows if he will even come back with the same arm strength post surgery. Feels like something that needs review.
Hey Doc you should look up the recent match up between mikey musumeci vs. gantumur bayanduuren grapple match in ONE Championship. One of the worst legs breaks of all time, would be cool to see your breakdown to it.
Insane that doc gets the non fumble call right.
I feel bad for the kid because it was a feel-good STORY, he literally took them into to the playoffs gets injured, your backups could do nothing. You just hope he gets better
I'm a 55 year old kinesiology student and your gift to describe, illustrate, and explain MOI's and use of anatomical terms is simply amazing
As usual, the Doc nailed it here. 👍🏼
i honestly think its essential for all Qb's to learn how to throw with both hands...
i'm far from a pro but if my left hand went down,i can throw just as good with my right...just not as far.
i hope Purdy is the starter next year,he earned it in my book.
Im sad we lost but i hope more than anything that he is going to b okay
Mentally or physically? How disappointed he must feel. But he will bounce back, and take the niners to a SuperBowl, can’t see why not, we saw how good he was after he was gone. Trey hurt, jimmy could run the offense, jimmy was hurt, purdy could run the offense, Purdy hurt, all the offense could do was run. He is the real deal.
Injury is just part of the game. Hope he has a 100% recovery and comes back better... like Drew Brees.
Thanks for the great diagnosis and explanation Doc. I wonder how the niners will handle the QB position if this turns into something more serious?
Spoiler alert: it’s pretty serious
@the man That's what it seemed like. Do you think they continue with JJ and JG or do they now entertain the idea of say TB?
@Steve D they drafted Trey Lance so high, they’ll go back to him
@the man oh yeah, I forgot about Trey. My bad...
That injury look bad when it happened. Now that you’ve explained it so expertly, it’s way worse.
Guys! You all are talking football when this Doc is articulating an analysis of an injury, which the outcome is yet unknown, during a live broadcast, and using video to back it up, all while wearing a tie and nailing it! I’m gobsmacked! His phone is probably ringing off the hook and rightly so.
Stellar, Doc! 👊🏻
Nice video. Hopefully, Purdue overcomes this injury quickly. Great for the NFL and San Fran.
Hopefully Purdy doesn't have that bad of an injury and makes a full recovery and be ready for the season
he will be back
Whatever it may be..He got faith in God to heal him..Pray for Brock Purdy 🙏
If he had ligament damage as you speculate, what would the potential recovery time be?
As an eagle fan, we really needed him out ! Our defense demoralized their offense so much that it spread to the defense . 49ers Defense being #1 showed that the mental game is as important as the actual physical game. Simply stated, Take one piece out of their game game plan and the rest of the house of cards will fall. Basically my eagles were given a win months ago with a third string QB and then a 4th string QB and then a broken 3rd string QB again. Eagle defense could just then defend for the run all the time. EZPZ not an ethical win but a win just the same. Oh and the refs really gave us back up support. Go Eagles
Glad I found your channel, the on the spot analyses of such injuries are really neat to have!
Gritty injury. I hope this kid comes back strong🫶🏼❤️🔥💐
thanks for the explanation, actually thought the injury was because of the sharp throwing motion without resistance after the ball went out
The broadcasters gave an update. They said it was a nerve injury and Brock Purdy lost feeling to his fingers. He did come back in the game after the backup quarterback got injured, but he didn’t attempt a pass.
He threw 2 passes. Both looked like Philip Rivers push throws...
Weakest injury in the history of the NFL 🤡
@donworryboudat how is it weak? Will probably require surgery. Couldn’t feel his fingers. What about that is weak?
As a lifelong Raider fan I laughed my ass of as I witnessed him get hurt and the 49ers loose that game. Nothing towards Purdy as an individual. He looks like a great player and athlete and did a good job through the season and wish him the best. But I do love the seeing the 49ers heartbreak! As a Raider I know heartbreak all to well!.
Sometimes Doc, a player's skills and talents lay not only on How They Do It but how they Continue to do it. This is where a @TB12 comes to mind - he is a great QB because he is aware and mindful on how to keep playing as a QB, avoiding the injuries. I AM SURE Purdy will learn this, as with Mahomes et al. Great talent's useless on the bench, on a bed or at home.
Thank you for your hard work!
This guy gave a mid game report, that’s what exactly happened confirmed by the Niners a day after.
Can you do an update now that they said what his injury is and if it’ll have any effect on his throwing ability?
As a Niner fan I’m in shambles
So, it's been confirmed that Brock Purdy suffered a complete tear of his UCL (Ulnar Collateral Ligament). I don't know how common this injury is in football, but it is the worst case scenario for a baseball pitcher. I actually had a buddy of mine tear his UCL back in highschool. To put it lightly, he was devastated.
We would love to hear your analysis of whats going on with Lonzo Ball. Scary situation
Great video as always doc! Thanks!
Great and easily understood presentation. Thanks.
I had an elbow strain and i couldn't even grip a 5lb dumb bell so i know the feeling. Brock will be back next season and I looking forward to it!!! Bang Bang!
Thanks to you and your Josh Allen video, I knew what the injury was while watching the game.
Josh Allen played through it tho
@Jon Davis yeah thats because hes josh allen
I injured my elbow ligament and it took more than a year to recover from it. One of the worse injuries to have.
That is what happens when a roughing the passer call gets turned into a "fumble". That hit was a lot more devastating to Brock Purdy, than the
late hit on the eagles punter. Things were a little unbalanced when it came to calls. Sorry that Brock got his elbow creamed. San Francisco did pretty well considering they were on their 4th quarterback. And Brock had an amazing year.
That wasn't roughing the passer...
I really hope this isn’t career ending. Let’s face it, how many QBs have not come back the same with injuries? Sad to see. I was fully invested in the fairytale run and SuperBowl win for Purdy and 49ers. The NFL needed this fairytale. The really needed it.
A key point on damage to the ulnar nerve is that it can result in numbness in the pinky finger and in half of the ring finger. This numbness can result in difficulty in gripping a ball.
The season is over for the 49ers and every team but two. I hope he recovers for next season.
It really sucks as the dude was doing things I've literally never seen in the history of sports. :(
It's crazy to me having so many world class athletes on a team but only a couple can actually throw a football well. I remember that broncos COVID fiasco turning out so badly.
Allen had the same injury against the jets, played on a hurt elbow the entire year and then reinjured it against fins in the wild card
Football has become a very dangerous sport with some of the injuries like Purdy and other quarterbacks have experienced this season unfortunately
This was a sick injury. I feel so bad for the kid. But the opposing defenses gets paid to knock down their QB. Jalen Hurts played on an injured shoulder that kept him out for 2 games. Eagles backup lost 2 games.
I had this same injury, my hand was completely numb and I could pick stuff up, but couldn’t feel it (had to see it).
This is a very helpful explanation. Thank you.
I injured my elbow playing basketball, cracked radial head, nerve inflammation and ligament sprain. Terribly painful! I had to immobilize it for 2 months and I couldn’t extend my elbow fully for about 6 months.
The eagles had 70 sacks this year. He is a rookie, I am sure the the game plan was to put pressure on him. He has all summer to recover. Then next year maybe he can compete for a starting job
My mom has had problems with her Ulnar Nerve. She has had two surgeries in the past past two years. She was diagnosed with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. It was completely debilitating and painful, but luckily, the second surgery seems to be working.
A terrible injury. When he finally does return, he won't be the same. I would be shocked if he can pick up where he left off in terms of ability and confidence.
Studying to become an AT and was studying for the BOC when it happened. Friends and I were talking about it tonight and we thought it would’ve been more UCL but weren’t sure. I saw they were doing graston and manual massage and my friends and I were confused why they would do graston on something like a strain/sprain
welp that's not a way you want to go out hope he heals quickly and there isn't no setbacks 🙏🏻
Why did they keep the poor kid in the field? It was painful to watch even if you are not a 9ers fan. Some SF players admitted they knew the game was over at that point. I bet the others knew without admitting it.
Can you do one for #59 of the Bengals, after the Mahones push? I paused the video and you can clearly see the hyperextension of the knee. It happened so fast that I did not catch it live, but it looks pretty bad.
N F L, not for long. Brock did a masterful job, had fun watching him. Hope he makes it back to his winning ways.
It was still a clutch defensive play by Reddick just unfortunate that purdy got injured and the eagles weren’t able to show they can beat the Niners at full strength.
