Some of the old gas well pumps ran on natural gas with an oil drip for lubrication. They were hit or miss and ran for years. Also I like the new Echo equipment.
Surprised I have not seen this one yet. My 85 is the prettiest girl at the ball who will mix it up with anyone. Punches way above her weight. Great show sir.
I received my Dad's FS85 that he bought new in the late '90s when he passed away in 2011. I use It year round here in Florida and it still looks and runs like new. I also have an FS75 curved shaft trimmer, BG86 blower, HS45 hedger and four Stihl chainsaws that I've picked up cheaply and repaired. I love your channel and watch every new video as it comes out. The best cleaner i have found is Simple Green Extreme Aviation - I buy the gallon concentrate and dilute it 3:1. It's safe for aluminum and really cuts dirt and grease. Plus it's inexpensive to boot!
It's been a few years now since I've known that Stihl chainsaw were made both in Germany and Brazil. My chainsaw I inherited from my dad was made in Brazil which will be 32 years old this year and it's still working.
The last new trimmer i bought was an echo srm225 from my local hardware store. I even got the conversion kit so i can cut brush when i need to. Have you ever heard of the crank in a chainsaw breaking ? It happened to me last year and i had another saw that was the same but the top end was burnt and i just switched cranks around
I really like my 85 blower. My wife has my older Echo blower that I also have no complaints on but we both got tired of the starting issues on the trimmers (Weedeater brand and old as rocks) and got a blower/trimmer kit from Lowes. 1st time out with the trimmer it was a joke BUT having reset the trimmer line blade for a wider cut it did a FINE job. I won't say as good as a 2-cycle but good enough for here. I keep all batteries inside because temps below 45 will hurt the life span. She will trim around a solid hour and use 1/2 battery power. And as far as all the green power addicts, how do they think all the uranium gets mined and shipped. Not with a battery rig. Thanks and GBWYou!
the battery "maintenance" is going to be new to a lot of people and the effort it takes to keep them "working" is going to be missed by most people. Then again I think that was the point.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Right. There will always be something to do to or for whatever we have; always a trade off somewhere. One thing I like about the Kobalt trimmer is the straight through head that can be loaded without taking it apart. 12 feet of line works good for this one. I notice that a lot of the others are going to this style too which is a good move.
I believe the cheap equipment is meant to be disposable and the very ex pensive stuff is Commercial Duty. I would never spend $500 on a trimmer unless I was making a living off it.
Great video lots of popular equipment is from overseas STIHL is German made Husqvarna is Swedish made ECHO is Japanese/American made and Redmax used to be Japanese made when it had the Komatsu engine all great pieces of equipment i have run all four and it really boils down to what you are most comfortable with. My personal best is STIHL i have repaired a brand i never knew existed called EFCO an Italian brand it was heavy but it got the job done
Great vid thanx mate. Man ,the amount of hours i hung off one of these before moving to an operator.Still used one occionally. Was there an easter egg in this vid? The lines about if the ban was on gasoline stuff. Cheers
Hi Home Garage, feel free to use this question in a Q@A video. do you enjoy working on older equipment, rather than the newer stuff, keep I'm mind that the parts for both are cheap and are readily available?
That's a tough one, I don't have a preference, the only thing is parts availability. I've seen a 5 year old mower Husqvarna, have less parts available then a 25 year old craftsman. The statement should be, I don't really like working on machines, where I know, the parts are in short supply.
I would use an air compressor, set to a low pressure, like 5 PSI, and blow into the hole on the "outside" of the cap, if you can feel air coming form the other side, it's not clogged. otherwise I would just replace the cap
are you going to separate the HHO generator from the mower? Just be very careful, the risk of an explosion is very high, I might share my experience with you guys some day.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE probably, ill see what the safest option is, also will do a ton of testing and srore the gas in propane containers with seperate labels
I only run gas because it is more effective for my work. I don’t mind electric powered equipment but it’s just not for me and lacks the power I need. I also like working on equipment but not anything battery or electric. So it’s mainly just preference 👍
If you can May you please do a repair on a professional echo trimmer like the x series I think it was the srm 2620 because the primer bulb fills up with fuel but not much at all could you please possibly tell me why it won't fill up all the way? Thank you I'm also a fan been subbed for about a year now keep up the good work!
thank you T Money Official HTX, If I can find one yes I'll do a video on it. To answer your question, there could be a couple of reasons why your bulb isn't filling up much. The first could be a soft fuel line, that's collapsing while you prime, The other would be a bad Fuel Filter. The last reason could be a bad diaphragm in your carb.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE but also it runs just fine it bogged because of a bunch of weeds were wrapped around the head so I was a little confused of how it ran just fine but I now think I get it thanks again! I will let you know if I have anymore questions!
That's a great question. It depends how you're comparing them. It's generally believed that propane is cheaper to run, than gasoline, But that's not considering if your filling your own tanks or buying them. The other issue, is that if you're using propane for a 4 cycle trimmer, that means you'll have 4 cycle problems, like oil changes, and valve adjustments.
If there is ever a nationwide ban on gasoline equipment, I will keep using my gasoline equipment. Are the cops going to arrest someone over using a 2-stroke trimmer or chainsaw? We don't live in North Korea.
that old fs 85 should last anybody forever as long as the user makes the correct mixed fuel. Good job on cleaning it
I completely agree with you Aj, and thanks for the comment .
Great pickup on FS 85, that thing is a beast of a trimmer, actually really more of a brushcutter in disguise.
Now that I'm going to have to agree on. thank you Mickey Kim.

hello friend, your machine is over 30 years old and is working well, what were the repairs you made in these years?
this is one is not mine, But so far, it has only been carb work

I didn't know they were made in Brazil as well
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE I guess that we both learned something about Stihl products bro
I intend to stick with small engines until the battery equivalent through all the ranges are as good as gas powered
more than likely I will too.

I did
But you didn't reply again
Can wait to see this fs85 going . Also has a 85 like my birth year so has to be a good trimmer lol . Great video 👍
thank you Turning_wrenches85
This trimmer was built to last and was definitely worth the money.
agreed!

What is your favorite stihl string trimmer is your favorite that you have worked on
hmm.. it's a toss up, between a stihl brush cutter, with a blade, and A honda 4 cycle trimmer.
I bought a fs38 at the end of last season so far its started right up and has good power but i use stihl synthetic oil which prob helps
thank you Mr. imperfect
Do you use ethanol free fuel for your equipment? I find it more costly but way less trouble with storage.
yes I do thank you Sam Feldman.
I found a stihl fs85 that was given to me years ago. I cleaned it up and it looks to be in like new condition. What do you think the unit is worth?
does it run? If it runs, it's worth some money. If not it's worth half
