  • With seemingly endless forests of its namesake cacti, Saguaro National Park is an incredible desert wonderland. Separated into 2 districts, flanking either side of Tucson, AZ, this park is a perfect example of just how beautiful deserts can be. From picturesque vistas and towering mountains to diverse wildlife and stunning sunsets, this park has so much more to offer than the iconic saguaros.
We spent 2 days exploring this gem of the Southwest. On the first day we visited the Rincon Mountain District (the east side) and drove Cactus Forest drive (a gorgeous scenic drive with several pull offs) and spent the night camping at Gilbert Ray Campground.
On day 2, we headed to the Tucson Mountain District and drove it's scenic drive, the Bajada Loop. Halfway along Bajada Loop, we detoured off the drive and hiked the Sendero Esperanza trail, which was one of the most beautiful hikes we've done thus far, climaxing with epic panoramic views from the ridgeline.
The park saved an absolutely incredible sunset for us as a parting gift on our way out.

Fascinating information - I am blown away that there are so many plant and animal life in this region. I never knew about the Saguaro cacti and they grow quite tall - who knew. I recommend this video it is so very interesting.

Excellent coverage! I even learned some new things about this delightful desert!
I’m glad that you both had a good visit 🙂 That first song choice sounds like a John Carpenter soundtrack, which is awesome.
Thank you for having me in for a cameo!

Well done! Tom and I have been in that area a lot. Those cholla cactus are nasty..the little balls actually travel. We hike with a comb which is great for removing them.(especially on our dog's paws) We camp at Organ Pipe NM every year...right on the border. Probably a few hours southwest of Saguaro NP. There is a fun town..Ajo..which you would like too. Maybe another episode. Good job pronouncing Saguaro right!

Such an amazing, otherworldly place. Thank you for taking us along. Sorry about your air mattress. I sleep great when I'm camping since I bought a Coleman pack away cot. No more waking up at 3 AM wrapped up like a burrito in a deflated mattress.

I know, right?! Thanks for coming along.
I don't know if cots are really our preference, but I'm open to trying one out some day. We had a great Coleman inflatable mattress that served us well for close to 10 years before it finally gave out. The one we had on this trip was a cheap one off of Amazon that lasted less than 2 camping trips. Get what you pay for, I suppose. Lesson learned.

@@lucasterradostuff Karen wanted me to let you know she loves her cot and finds it very comfortable. And she is picky.

    Hello.
I heard that the National Park is open 24 hours a day and only the Visitor Center is open.
Then, is it possible to watch it at 7 a.m?
Due to my schedule... I think I need to look around early in the morning
