Dieppe was not a failure. Allies were under pressure to open up a second front to relieve pressure on Russia, the allies had little experience with large beach assaults in this area and they were unsure if their equipment would perform as needed. They proved that they did not have the capability to launch a large scale assault on a beach front, they proved they did not know how to properly assault beaches on large scale and they learned their equipment was not up to the task as many of the tanks got stuck on the beach. If Dieppe was intended to be a success they would have sunk alot more effort into it. Everything they learned from Dieppe the put into practice for Normandy. Dieppe was a success as the Allies did accomplished what they needed for Normandy. A large price to learn lessons and prove a point to Russia
@jrobertsoneff Because that was a failure. They make movies about victories usually. Probably due to fact that Dieppe was a blunder starting from higher ups. But "A Bridge Too Far" wasn't exactly a victory movie either.
Excellent film - please could you upload Part 1
keep up the good work - its a great channel -- Dave
Where's Part 1? (12/5) Dangerous Missions Raid on Dieppe?
I dont know why they never made a proper film on the raid on dieppe. It has all the ingrediants for a big action movie , including plenty of heroism.
