vata has posted a statement regarding the situation. netizens were quick to defend ateez though as vata's statement was unbelievably unbelievable..he believes his move is "entirely different from the move sequence that it is currently being compared to". he also gave a brief description as to how he "came up" with the dance.
take this info how u will.... but i believe a simple acknowledgment of the two dances being similar and then changing/removing it would've been the better way to go about it
Right he should’ve have apologised and said that the dances are indeed similar but he just made the situation a lot more worse 😔😔 glad woo “spoke” up about it tho even though he’s from a small company he’s not afraid to protest(or wtv u wanna call it)

It’s so irritating as an Atiny..I can’t understand why it’s so hard to stand up or at least shut up for ATEEZ.
Atinys have been standing up for other fandoms and their artists for years now but as soon as someone is harming ATEEZ, we’re being crybabys..and it’s just a "cold wind that’ll pass”
Anyways, thanks to those 4-5 fandoms that can put their stubbornness aside and see that this is actually unfair and hurtful. 🤍

I'm a professional dancer/choreographer, and I hope that this can help clear a few things:
(I am not standing from either perspective and judging this fairly)
Everyone who says that the technique - gliding - is able to be copied, you are not wrong. Both Ateez and Vata using this technique is not copying one another. The ACTUAL COPYING PART is the hand placement, direction of glide, and timing of direction change. I hope everyone who thinks Vata is not copying realises that Vata actually knows Ateez and you can see from Ateez's ins posts (they were dancing together). Ateez's Say my name choreography came out in 2019, while Vata only showed this 'original' choreography in 2022. Honestly, copying the move isn't the main problem - in the dance world, copying ones move just means that the move is being recognised and it is a great influence to others. The MAIN PROBLEM is that Vata doesn't recognise Ateez as inspiration when clearly many people and even dancers have pointed out the copyright movement. Vata doesn't necessarily need to apologise to anyone, but he needs to show more respect towards idols - Ateez in particular. He needs to recognise that Ateez was originally a dance team, and also it's not easy to be an idol. Everyone needs to recognise that they shouldn't say Ateez or Atiny are overreacting to this or causing drama on purpose. There's always a cause to an outbreak. Not being an Atiny myself, I can feel the frustration and annoyance of Ateez and Atiny's, and I think honestly Vata just needs to respect Ateez and keep in mind that that move is not his 'original' choreography. He needs to realise that Ateez's choreographer is the "ORGINAL CHOREOGRAPHER" and Ateez are the first and ONLY people that own this choreography.
I'm not trying to say Vata isn't a good dancer/choreographer, I just think as a professional dance/choreographer I need to inform everyone that this is what the situation is really like :)
Note: it was actually from another choreographer rather than just Ateez. People need to credit Anze as the guy who started it rather than just Ateez themselves.

The Move or dance that is going viral was a move that was made for Ateez in 2019 for a song. Since it did not spread or picked up by the general K pop public, people forgot that move so easily like it never happened. In 2022 Vata made the move or dance go viral. So there you go. They did Copy the dance and for people saying its just a moonwalk its not. It is a set of dance moves that make it Recognizable or else people wouldnt do a challenge with it in the first place. Im not a Atiny nor am I a fan of Vata. Im actually a Stay but lets be honest here. Give credit where its due and dont steal people shit claiming it is your move. When someone is wrong they should own up to it and not be disrespectful when you made the mistake in the first place.

My heart breaks to know that now everyone thinks Vata is the one who created the original choreography and that Ateez copied it or used it. Everytime when they perform Say my name in future, there are chances that people may think Ateez used/copied Vata's moves as Vata's dance challenge has gone viral now. I have seen few people already asking that too. If I were in Ateez's place, it would prick my heart.
I dont know what Ateez or other people are thinking and feeling but if I am in Ateez's place, I would feel bad and probably, will start feeling insecure to perform it again.

This is unrelatable, but note, we have seen that in other dances too.
In Dance Moms, Abby Lee did this with two of her dancers, Chloe and Maddie, using the same routine for both of them, and not even one of the moms or the judges called her out for that.
I don’t know which show was it, but in a Chinese show, one choreographer copied a move that was noticeable within a Japanese troupe, and immediately, all the fellow choreographers called him out. The host, Oscar Wang even said “if you don’t copy, you have no respect to others”.
This disgusts me. We may not have the best creativity, but you cannot just steal ideas without asking. Where is everyone’s manners for god’s sake?
It’s the placement of the hand. Overall, the gliding is a move that can be used because it is a move! But the copying part is how the hands are totally the same. You could be doing smth else while gliding and it isn’t rlly copying. I’m so mad with vata as an atiny but I think people are misunderstanding this
Hey I’m just now finding out about this. Does everyone know that Vata copied Ateez now? Even the idols that did it after him?
I'm a little late to chime in. I understand this is about respect. I come from the academic/education world where plagiarism is a no, no. Unfortunately, I have seen many of my words and ideas copied without acknowledging it came from me. I understand why Ateez feels disrespected because copying without giving credit where credit is due is highly disrespectful.

They're similar, not the same, so it'll be called inspo, not copying.
There's no law saying you have to credit someone you were inspired from and dances are not copyrighted

Look up kpop dances that are the same and you'll see this everywhere. Some dances being exactly the same and some being very similar.
There's no out burst for credit there so why here? If people feel it's wrong to "copy" a dance then please show how you truly hate it by calling everyone out, not just those who you feel you'll be protecting your faves for
I'm an Ateez fan and will never bully other over something so common. OR AT ALL for that matter
there’s no bullying going on here. we are recognizing that this is happening over and over again with ateez and they’ve clearly not been okay with it. as i stated in the video, there is nothing wrong with dances looking familiar, it happens all the time. but when it’s a very specific move that we’ve only seen since ateez’s smn + the overflow of news + the dance coming from a dance show that is judged on creativity. with vata saying that he came up with it himself and saying that there’s no similarities at all after the entire internet saying that they are similar. u can see in the video that even the turn is at the same time and they both move to the left and then switch to the right at the same time.
i understand that there are no laws regarding copying someone’s dance moves. but, morally, i (align many others) believe that he should’ve at least stated in his statement that the dances are similar and that he recognizes that.
i believe that is why everyone involved is speaking up.

There's no laws against reusing moves and he's has its own twist to it which is fine to reuse for choreography
If you search up Shopping Cart Dance, you'll see a video with a black man doing a dance that's very similar to the driving dance. It was seen before, just not popular
Same with the moonwalk. It was used before but Michael Jackson popularized it and there no credit to the original creator. THAT HAPPENS
Like I said, if people don't like moves being reused, the have A LOT of idols, groups, choreographers, dances ect to "cancel"

@@LovelyKissess and yet the original choreographer of SMN and multiple other professionals that are not tied to SMF and/or Vata and Mnet all agree that it’s copied and that Vata is not handling the situation well at all. The thing is that whatever happens, he plagiarized the move and do you think that will be good for his career?
