The world needs more people giving each other permission to exist in the way that they need to. The flip through and messaging in this video is positive and helpful! Thanks for sharing :)
Discovered your channel randomly a few months ago and together with some other content, you've inspired me to start sketchbooking again! I love the way you frame it in this & other videos. I'd love to know more about how you use tracing in your work & tracing/similar as a practice in the art world & art history. Would you ever do a video on this or do a q&a? Thanks for sharing your art with us, hope you're having a good day!
This is awesome I’m so glad to hear that you’re sketchbooking again! I really do need to chat about doing studies and using tracing so I will add a video on that to my queue! Feel free to let me know if you have more questions (re: q&a)
Fantastic tips to creating individual sketchbooks for different mediums, elements, techniques, planning. Love your channel so very very much. So much food for thought Met. Thank You for sharing and inspiring Us. Ps A big hello from me in Australia 😊
Thanks Robbie! Hope you find this helpful with your art adventures! Prompts and questions you ask yourself are such awesome reminders for what we are doing and why we're doing it when showing up to practice feels tough! Hello from California!
I very much agree … mostly because my sketchbooks are a jumble of scramble, and almost never get finished because I move on. But it’s ok because I have no interest in setting limits for myself
Awesome! And absolutely. The most important thing is for you to feel good, creative, and that you’re supporting your own learning journey. Whatever that looks like for you!
I should really tell myself it’s ok to cut out the last empty papers for later loose leaf use 😭😭 all my sketchbooks by the end of it I’ve improved so much I don’t wanna do good art at the last page while the rest of it is bad in my eyes, but also can’t let myself move on to a new sketchbook without finishing the old so I end up not drawing in a sketchbook for months till I just force myself to scribble something at the end 😅
Sometimes it’s really great to know what you’ve learned. A thing you could do with those last few pages is journal! Reflect about what you’ve learned about the materials or get feedback from a friend and record that there! I love mixing writing and sketches together because it feels more like my brain🤪
Wow, now I thought about it, it really does not make sense to use up all the left-over pages in a book just to "use them up". If you feel the book is finished, it's finished 🤔 the pages are just material for your art I was thinking, if I knit a sweater and I have like 27g of wool left after the sweater is finished, I don't keep on knitting just to use up the wool. I don't need three arms 😅 Or if you have clay left after making something out of clay, you don't add the left-over clay to use it up.
EXACTLY!!!! on another comment earlier I suggested something that im definitely going to start doing in the future, which is using those last pages to reflect on what ive learned. Happy sketch booking!
That’s ok! I think a big question for me for a long time was what is more important, recognition or freedom! And with sketchbooks, they are yours. It’s your decision to guide your learning at any pace that feels right. But I often feel driven to the recognition to rush something and have it be done. Our lives as artists are long and the path is meandering. If you’re stoked about a new inspiring place don’t fear it! Especially if you’re starting a new chapter of your work or life.
For me it’s easier to just keep one Sketchbook bc I don’t have that much time to Draw anyway and it’s really demotivating if I don’t See my Sketchbook slowly filling up but I Really Like the way you do it Sounds fun :D Also Imma sunscribe bc u give off a nice vibe we gotta support :3
Hey thanks! I have great admiration for that idea to keep just one consistent place and I bet it’s beautiful to see your work evolve overtime in a linear space!
so fair! but having that set of rules or questions you ask in a particular sketchbook can really help you keep coming back to eventually finish! Hope that helps!
I get this so much & thanks for watching! I'm neurodivergent too but I had to slowly seam rip the shame I had around not finishing sketchbooks! And honestly the even bigger shame I felt not doing them at all... see if the prompt system helps you with keeping you inspired and knowing when the project or problem you were trying to solve is resolved!

thank you so much! this is one of my big goals with creating this channel, giving more permission to just exist and show up as their authentic selves.
Beautiful beautiful spreads and explorations in every one of your sketchbooks.
Thank you! I came back to sketchbooking after a 10 year hiatus last may! I’m so glad I did! I’ve been having so much fun! 😌
Your colour artwork is fantastic.
Keep sharing

true!
@@MelMitchJackArt you are flipping through the notebooks so casually, and they are great!
@@monkeypainter thank you so much! I need to do tours of each of them individually, which I will do as they cross their finish lines :)
This is so lovely! I love the amount and the colours themselves in your art! And all the tips u give. It's all so inspiring ^-^
Thank you so much! Glad it can inspire you! ⭐️✨
Interesting perspective, and I liked this peek into your sketchbooks .

@@MelMitchJackArt Yes it can be really tough sometimes but for me personally it‘s really worth it!
😅 I still feel bad when I leave sketchbooks unfinished.

I rip the pages out and keep them to use for other things. I have one 'finished' sketchbook with only 3 pages in it 😅
@@jade4994 omg! I guess when something is working, cut it out and put it elsewhere ! I have never heard of doing this but I appreciate you sharing!
👏👏☺
