  • BNSF, short for Burlington Northern Santa Fe, is a railroad that mostly carries freight across the western portion of the United States. However, throughout the year, BNSF also runs some special passenger trains to various places in their system. In this video, we will watch some BNSF passenger trains in the Southern California Region. One of these trains was run for executives of short line railroads from around the country while the other was a special yearly excursion over Cajon Pass for children in the greater Los Angeles area. All aboard!

    Love the Vista dome cars 👍🏻. Brought back memories of traveling to California about the Santa Fe Super Chief and in a drawing room. Never forget the spotless white coats of the dining car waiters and the excellent onboard services. Now I’m not so sure I’d want to travel Amtrak 🤔

    Beautiful footage.
    My brother, biking north Sunday along the Rio Hondo, paused to watch the traffic on the Santa Fe tracks. A BNSF excursion just happened to go by westbound

      The question is why some of these railroad companies never looked at Japan for how they were successfully building bullet trains.

    This is great for the private sector railroad companies because they can operate passenger trains again and they can substitute for scheduled charter trains that are normally operated by Amtrak. Amtrak is now banned from operating charter trains and from carrying private passenger cars on the back of their trains because of Amtrak new insurance policy.

    As nice as always Mike. Since it is the end of March I wonder if you are already on your trip to Florida. I have a recommendation here in Miami there is a railroad museum called the Goldcoast Railroad museum and it has an exhibit train that runs on occasion. It also has 2 of the 5 surviving Florida East Coast 4-6-2 “Pacifics” #153 and #113. In case your curious the other 3 surviving FEC 4-6-2s are Savannah and Atlanta #750 (formerly FEC #66) Georgia Northeastern 107 (Formerly FEC #60) and finally the last survivor is the most prominent one FEC #148 currently being restored at the USSC (United States Sugar Corporation) in Clewiston, FL.

    neat catches! I've only seen BNSF OCS trains sitting in the yard, and the longest was probably four cars. But I did once see two BNSF passenger cars on the front of a coal train.
    It's a shame BNSF didn't keep the special OCS motive power from ATSF or BN. That would make their OCS trains seem more special, and a blend of the past and present!
    There's a guy tresspassing on the tracks at 5:09! How often do you catch something like that on camera?

  • @Lucius_Chiaraviglio

    Strange that sometimes they had 1 locomotive on each end and sometimes both on the same end. Seems that if you have the control system set up for 1 on each end, might as well leave it that way so that you can reverse easily.

    • @Mrcharles.
      @Mrcharles. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BNSF does carry passengers however before the merger in 1995, the Santa Fe company ran numerous and historical passenger lines from Chicago to Los Angeles. The southwest chief was their regular run before Amtrak took over operations.
