Haydn rarely missed an opportunity to entertain concertgoers while extending music. Wonderful piano trios, sonatas, symphonies, string quartets, masses, cantatas, even Scottish songs for male and female voice and piano trio. The list goes on. He is easily the most represented composer in my collection.
I listened this trio alongside some other Haydn trios on the radio just this afternoon and now this post... Classical Music Gods are trying to tell me to listen more Haydn I guess ;)
I hope you did! Beyond the fence of the musical industry that prompts everyday the "popular" music there is the paradise (garden) of Haydn's music. And the most intimate core of Haydn's music are the piano trios.
In these trios, Haydn did his best to compensate the weak points of the pianoforte. The cello is most of the time in unisoo with the bass of the pianoforte, while the violin brings melodic modulation in the treble voice. This being said, these trios are great masterworks, perhaps among the greatest of Haydn.

Last movement is greatly loved by me =))
This is a pretty terrific performance of this piece! I'm learning it with my trio and very much appreciate the recording -- thank you!

I remember when this was issued on a SAGA LP - at the wrong pitch! Sound much better here.
II. Andantino più tosto allegretto 8:29
Yes, truly divine.
