@Asiablue I was just saying that I feel like seats in economy have less leg room than before. I will say that European airlines don't have as much overhead compartment space because they always take my carry on suitcase and check it because it's too big.
Blaming reclining seats for the cramped conditions of flights is truly pointing at the moon and looking at the finger instead. Airlines are too greedy and flight conditions today are extremely uncomfortable. Get rid of reclining seats and airlines will just push us all even closer together.
Are you kidding me? On an overnight flight, I have ZERO problems with anyone reclining and I cannot imagine not being able to lean back to sleep. Come to think of it, I don't mind anyone reclining. I DO hate when someone sits up and presses the release button suddenly and everything goes flying off my tray. LOL
Reclining used to not be a problem before the airlines squeezed more seats into the main cabin by shrinking the distance between seats by a few inches and spacing out specific seats so the airline can charge more for the extra legroom (which used to be the norm before). Now, it's ridiculous how much reclining affects the standard economy seats.
people who sit in premium economy or business/first class don't have to worry about reclining because you still get a lot of room in front of you. I'm sure Cenk flies premium or business/first. Of course reclining is a lovely luxury.
The problem is not the reclining , it’s the spacing between seats being made smaller and smaller ….. for very large persons who recline to the point where they may actually break the seat they should be made to pay for a more appropriate seat …. Airlines have to manage this
Reclining would not be as much of an issue if people were not packed in airplanes like sardines. Airlines have prioritized profits over customer safety and comfort.

Reclining aircraft seats has been around, for ever. The more recent issue is, to fit more passengers into an aircraft, they have reduced the seat pitch. Result, less knee room, and the if your seat is upright, the reclined seat in front of you is rather close. Respect reclining seat, when you recline, pay attention to not suddenly surprise the person behind you.
To solve the reclining seat problem, all the airlines need to do is simply add 4 or 5 inches of space between the rows. Problem gone. I did most of my flying in the 70's, no problem with reclining seats.
How about instead of banning reclining seats, we bring back leg room. I worked in aviation for a time and one thing I know is that commercial airplanes are not designed to have as many seats crammed into them as the do. The airlines add as many additional seats as possible to maximize profit over passenger safety and comfort. I've you've ever seen a "window" seat that did not align with a window, you've been on an over crowded flight. The windows are precisely spaced so that each row aligns with one. This is the manufacturers recommended maximum seating. Anything over this is unsafe, even if the FAA overlooks it, the same way they do for Boeing.
Why isnt the petiton to demand better airplane construction so that reclining is not such an imposition to those around you? This seems like people protesting the wrong things!
Ban tiny seats. These seats should reclining. They only recline like 2" to begin with. This movement is probably pushed by the airline industry to make this a standard so they can even further squeeze more seats or force people to pay more for bigger seats. This is like the bike lane movement.
I haven’t found any reclining seat on a plane to recline enough to bother anyone or really let anyone get comfortable for that matter. They barely recline. They balance it pretty well with the person behind definitely getting the better deal.
I haven’t found any reclining seat on a plane to recline enough to provide any significant comfort compared to the discomfort and annoyance they cause to the person behind. It’s absolutely pointless and inconsiderate.
In stead of banning reclining seats and further torture and dehumanize travelers, maybe just add less seats so people don’t feel like they are on the New York subway at rush hour.

greedy corporations? seriously? it is the nanny-state gov't regulations that make it near impossible to even stay in business transporting people by air.
It never used to be an issue when they didn't have the seats squished up so close together that your knees get squashed, just for the extra dollars the company makes by putting extra rows in.
They barely get in your way. Im a big dude and never once have I had a problem with the dude in front of me reclining the whole 2 inches the seats recline. So we argue with each other instead of telling Airlines to stop trying to increase their profits by cramming as many ppl on a flight as possible. Sounds about right.
Someone needs to invent a plane seat which slides forward as it reclines. So that reclining sacrifices some of your own legroom, rather than externalizing all that cost onto the person behind.
This issue isn't 'recline-or-not-recline,' the issue is plane transportation is designed stupidly to torture every single customer. The seats should be comfortable for any kind of body, and able to recline without harm to the person behind. Period.
the seats recline like 4 inches. im 6 foot and long legged. im reclining that few inches cause i need it. insteadof complaining about the reclining person complain to the airline and have them remove a few rows so we can get proper leg room.
I feel like airline seats don't recline all that much to start with, and the tray tables and TV screens attached to the seat shift so they remain in line with the person using them. Seats that recline more are in business or first class where there's plenty of room to start with. I think the main problem is that planes are built with as little space as possible unless you pay thousands of dollars to upgrade. It feels like every few years the seats get a few inches closer together until one day there's enough leftover room to install a new row and therefore sell more tickets. Most people don't know that most airlines break even with the cost of flying a plane through first class and business tickets alone, economy tickets are surplus revenue. If airlines were okay making a little less money in exchange for more comfortable economy seats they might actually attract more customers and still make gazillions of dollars.
Arguing not to recline is ignoring the fact the airlines have forced us into areas too small for comfort. Reclining is necessary for comfort especially on long flights. Stop fighting someone who just wants to sit comfortable and fight the airlines who want to herd us like cattle.
Not reclining is showing respect for the person behind you. Airlines have reduced the space between rows too far for the current model of reclining chairs-airlines need to replace them with reclining seats that do not recline so far.
Why even bother manufacturing the mechanism that allows any reclining at all. It's already only like 2-3 inches at the top of the seat. These arguments are designed by the airlines to give louder voices to those who think it's bad...just so they can do away with it all together and continue on their quest to eradicate the 6'+ economy passenger and make us all lean on a padded bar
There are better ways to layout the same number of seats on the same airplane to get much more legroom. It's designed purposely to maximize the suffering that an average person is capable of taking, then pricing first class at just the amount people would pay to not endure that suffering.
It is that "Pack them in" mentality the airlines have to maximize profits. Reclining would not be so much of a pain if the passengers had proper leg room.-
Exactly. So many people think that people who recline are rude because they cause discomfort for the people behind them. However, what about the discomfort that you face from being forced to sit up straight with a back injury? I don't understand why your discomfort from your back is any less important than the discomfort of the person behind you.
This is dumb. Instead of doing away with reclining seats, there should be more room between each row so we’re not packed like sardines. They’ve been gradually getting tighter and tighter.
The seats are too close together and you can smell the breathing of the person next to you. I would rather ask for better seating space than banning a feature. especially for long distance flights
Airplane seats don’t recline anywhere near that much. I had a very big guy on a long flight yell at me for reclining once and I told him to get a seat in first class next time if he doesn’t like it. Cenk is exactly right.
The recline is so small anyway it's not even that dramatic as they had in the ad. Unless you're dead focused on it, then you really start to not even notice it anymore
I’m 6’1” but generally don’t recline, unless of course the seat behind me is empty. If I do recline, I’ll recline the seat back only a little. That said, as long as reclining is a feature built in to the seat, then you’re just going to have to deal with it. The real problem is with the airlines. The airlines don’t give a shit about the cattle car section. They deliberately make things as unpleasant and uncomfortable as possible in Economy to entice people to pay extra for better seats up front the next time they fly.
If the reclining the seat an inch is to much the problem is the airline setting the seats to tight. Stop blaming the guy next to you for the crap the airlines dose.
Airlines got greedy and added many more seats to planes. They can reduce the number of seats per flight have a larger seats and let them recline with no problem.
Some people may actually NEED to recline their seats because they may have health issues or be unwell or in pain and be physically unable to sit bolt upright for hours on end, especially for really long flights. It's not healthy for anyone to sit in that one position for so long, but people with generally healthy bodies get away with pushing their body to do it. Some people aren't that lucky and will experience more than just an average level of discomfort if they try. I absolutely agree that people should try to be as respectful as possible to those around them with things like this, but it goes both ways, and the attitude suggested here of making people suffer to pay them back for reclining their seat, even going as far as to try to cause them physical pain by pushing your knees hard into the back of their seat and roughly manhandling their seat when you get up, is disgusting when you don't know if that person is reclining their seat because they are already in pain or sick or disabled in some way. If you are really uncomfortable due to a seat being reclined for a long time, or it's causing you difficulty with eating your meal or something, maybe politely and respectfully speak to the person in that seat, explaining the issue and ask if there's any compromise you could come to so that you could both have some comfort, for example, alternating whether the seat is up or reclined. Remember that, unless you already did something to upset them, the person in the reclined seat probably isn't trying to make you uncomfortable on purpose. They probably just honestly haven't even thought about the fact that it may be making you uncomfortable, or they may be feeling really bad about it but feel that they really need that recline for whatever reason. The only one really responsible is the airline for organising the seats to be so closely packed that it causes this issue in the first place
As a 6' 3" guy who barely fits in most normal airplane seats I would be ok with recline being a thing AS LONG AS you at least check the person behind you. It may make you slightly more comfortable but for tall people it may be the difference between simply not fitting or barely fitting, not to mention your knees might actually get crushed. My point is how about try to be a bit more considerate of the people around you?
Seats recline, so you are allowed to do so. The only etiquette is: Recline it VERY slowly so the person behind you can adjust and not spill a drink. It's rude just to slam the seat back very fast. What really cheeses me is when people don't go upright when they are told to do so. Some people won't go up all the way, so as soon as they go up (usually slowly) I assist their seat to go fully up.
How about we petition the airlines to have seats that, when used as intended, don't interfere with other passengers? Just another example of how we're at each other's throats instead of being at THEIR throats where we should be.
The seats don’t recline that much these days, certainly not as much as in that commercial. The people who complain are more disturbed by the thought that someone being inconsiderate to them, not the actual inconvenience if any.
There already is not enough space on the flight. For those of us over 6' tall, reclining seats present a problem for our knees. A better solution is perhaps remove a row or two of seats and expand the room between rows. Ah, but that would impede on how many people the airlines can squeeze onto a plane.

They probably just honestly haven't even thought about the fact that it may be making you uncomfortable, or they may be feeling really bad about it but feel that they really need that recline for whatever reason. The only one really responsible is the airline for organising the seats to be so closely packed that it causes this issue in the first place
Has anybody ever thought about demanding that everybody had the same kind of seat and everybody’s comfortable?
This smells of airline propaganda. Less features at a higher cost
I never recline. That little nervous 2”-4” is not gonna help me relax any better.
The absolute problem is NOT reclining seats, but reduced width and length of seats by airlines to make more money
Good my airline stock are going up
If everyone reclines then there is no issue
What about banning crammed airplanes with too many seat rows instead?
Yes. That is the real problem. I'm small. But God help the big guys!
@@TONSBERG100why I own airline stock. We love the profit.
@@flashinthepanpaydirt7387 That is what can cause government regulations. It's always better to keep the government out.
@@TONSBERG100 agree big government sucks
@@flashinthepanpaydirt7387 totally.
Where’s the petition to keep reclining seats? I’ll sign that one
And, on a red-eye? Thanks, I'll keep the reclining chairs. Weird, I've never been annoyed by someone reclining :/
Ban it, ban it, ban it...unless airlines would give more space, which they won't, so ban it
How about we petition the airlines to have seats that, when used as intended, don't interfere with other passengers? Just another example of how we're at each other's throats instead of being at THEIR throats where we should be.
The seats don’t recline that much these days, certainly not as much as in that commercial. The people who complain are more disturbed by the thought that someone being inconsiderate to them, not the actual inconvenience if any.
There already is not enough space on the flight. For those of us over 6' tall, reclining seats present a problem for our knees. A better solution is perhaps remove a row or two of seats and expand the room between rows. Ah, but that would impede on how many people the airlines can squeeze onto a plane.
uhg! make all seats reclined. petition to have two rows taken out of every plane.
That would cut the profits of the airlines so it would never happen.
this exactly!
@@JamieWoods00746 it'll happen if we make it happen. that's why organized labor is a huge first step chords reorganizing society to the benefit of the people. the sleeper must awaken
I'm 6'3 and dont recline out of courtesy to the person behind me. I also am very conscious at concerts when standing in front of people.
Petition, to make it illegal for the future airplane that has seat close to each other, front & back, left & right seats! At least every airplane that land in the USA.
transfer ownership of the airlines to the public. Then the public can vote on how we want our air travel to run. problem solved.
