Way to go, my Shed Club mates!! Great stuff. I personally love to play etudes over standards. It is a relaxing exercise for me and I learn how the techniques of improv are used in a “controlled environment.” Good stuff, Nathan! GO SHED CLUB!

It's exciting to hear Nathan playing my etude! Shed club is great if you need some focused assignments. I have a library full of books and an internet full of licks and pattern posts but, because I'm paying a little bit every month, I always find myself hitting these assignments first. The club is a encouraging community as well, with players from all levels cheering each other on. I can easily fill up a 40-minute practice session just reviewing shed club assignments. (That's my lunchtime shed at the park. I set the timer for 40 minutes.)

Nice photo grab of Arnold Schoenberg teaching at UCLA! Studied and used his books back in the early 70s to write my Honors paper on Development of a Music Composition.

Excellent!!! As usual I come from a country with no university or conservatory classes like yours. I'll bye all your books for my jazz education. Thanks.

Useful advice. Got me thinking of different ways to end a phrase. Building and subverting expectations was a good one.
