    👉👉👉FYI this is not a DIY channel.👈👈👈 I make these videos to try to help other technicians that work on these generators that have already been properly trained and have gone to generator class. 👉👉👉If you're having problems with your home stand-by generator please contact your local authorized Generac dealer.

    I have a 60 KW Katolite on a lab building. It's powered with a 350 GM V-8. Runs on natural gas. The only problem it has had in 14 years is the oil pressure sensor. The engine would come up to running pressure and stay there but the sensor would slowly drop down the reading until the control panel would shut down the engine. Other than that and changing the plugs once a year, it's done a great job.

      Those are four pole rotors versus two pole. They run at 1600 RPM versus 3200. That makes them quieter and last longer. That's a total different kind of generator than these lawn mower standby generators 😁

    I have this exact generator (model 0052541 16kw LP). Owned it since 2009. I believe it was new in 2006. I bought it from a generac dealer second hand in Redding, CA who was leaving the area. It will start with low-voc carb cleaner in the intake, but will not start on it's own. It has been a PIA forever. I replaced the main regulator assembly in 2019 from zillerelectric and it still won't startup on it's own without carb cleaner sprayed into the intake. I think the solenoid coil that sits in between the regulator might be the problem, it does get 12v to the coil (e.g. #14 wire). The valves are adjusted properly (.003), new RC14YRC plugs set to .040. I was trying to see which hose the LP uses from the regulator side to the carb intake, on mine it's the hose that is connected to " IN 2" which is closest to the edge of the side of the unit and sits on the right hand side when looking at the battery. "IN 1" goes to the NG side on mine and I am concerned it might be backwards as this unit has never worked right, even w/ the switch on the carb set to LP. I would guess this generator does not even have 20 hours on it as everything under the valve covers looks brand new. Oil was changed w/ synthetic a few years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have hired generac techs to come out and do an evaluation and they recommended the regulator swap-out, but that did not solve the problem and I ended up with hundreds of dollars in service calls without resolution. The propane company was here 2 days ago and they checked the regulator from the tank to be about 13.5 wc which feeds my unit. 10 years ago it was set to about 11 wc and had the same problems. Unfortunately this is the only unit which will run my 5HP well pump when power is out during public safety power shutoffs w/ PG&E and I don't care to spend $6k for a new one.

    Great video brother. Generac teck from the nor west myself. A good t/s trick for a those older gens with that style air box and intake man. Is if it's running on lpv, hard starting and your out of ideas, flip the fuel selector to ng. If it fires right off, could have bad rubber gaskets @ the air box around the intake man.. took me awhile to figure that out , so I'm telling everyone I meet... keep safe keep warm.

    • @benherbst6822
      @benherbst6822 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, air leak at the air box throws off the mixture, if you put it in ng it allows more fuel in...

    Will a worn/defective LP gas regulator create a situation where my Generac 04456-0 starts occasionally but for the most part won't start? I see in this video you refer to problems with the early Generac of which mine is one? Also any suggestion for a replacement regulator that won't duplicate this problem?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      when you are referring to a regulator, are you talking about the lp regulator provided by the propane company or are you talking about the fuel regulator inside the generator? The one inside the generator is what I had problems with the most. The rubber tends to harden in the regulator and not react like it should.

    • @joelangan6373
      @joelangan6373 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HVACRSurvival The regulator inside the generator. The replacement I'm looking at has an additional port below the two main outlets that isn't there on the original. Can that port just be closed? Also any suggestions on how to remove cover from older Generac Guardian 12kw. Need to replace starter on this unit as well. Thanks very much for the response. Greatly appreciated.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remove the cover to change the starter, I assume you must be a homeowner so make sure you unhook that negative wire from the battery or you will have a bad day if you short that thing to ground because that starter is constantly positive straight to the battery. Far as a regulator, be certain that it's the correct one, they may look the same but they are not all the same. I don't have access to the generator website like I used to so it would have to be looked up by either their parts department or maybe you could find something online.

    pretty sure champion is the OEM plug manufacture, surely there's cross references online. I'd not hesitate to run Champions/NKG/Denso/motorcraft in place of them, just make sure you'r not buying counterfeit online and hope the parts houses aren't either :)

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Champion for some reason is the brand they use on there motors. Generac truly designs and manufacturer's the motor. The larger Genrac generators have Ford, GM, etc. motors and they have whatever brand spark plugs they recommend. I'm not a gear head so I don't have time or the desire to cross reference the plug but because I have tried to buy them locally before from Auto Zone, Advanced Audio and Napa... I have found its a weird plug to match up. It can be done but it's odd and I believe NKG or Bosch might have been the few that crossed over but that was over 6 years ago since I looked...That's why I feel the way I do about it. My drive to do generators has gone way down because I'm not doing enough anymore compared to my prior employer so my thought is get in or get out but don't straddle the middle. (No body else wants to do them or learn them.) Think of it like a auto mechanic repairing a cars computer at the component level... The computer runs the car but that doesn't mean the mechanic is a electronic repair tech, so generally the mechanic has no interest in knowing why the flux capacitor is under 2.4 gigga Watts by 4.876% causing a random window to roll down every 47.8 days 🤣

  • @benherbst6822

      I have a PEX stainless crimp ring tool but didn't have any of the small clamps. I use to run plumbing and electrical residential service in addition to all the stuff I do now.
