Thanks for featuring our video-it’s fantastic to hear that both of you have shifted your perspective on leaving scraps behind. Our goal should always be to leave a site better than we found it.
Just imagine what campsites would look like if everyone left their food scraps behind. It would be like camping in a compost bin, and it would also attract unwanted rodents and bugs.
Let’s work together to keep our outdoor spaces clean and enjoyable for everyone! 😃👍
Thanks for having me on again mate. You’re doing good work, not just for charity but for the greater community too.
Hi Dylan and Elvin,
Great episode discussing real issues that affect all of us adventure seekers. We have something we’d like to add
- Many of the issues with human waste are backpackers/foreign travellers and something needs to be done to address this. There are so many tourists in our beautiful country travelling and perhaps they need to be educated as to the way to dispose of human waste that is acceptable in Australia. This has been mentioned to us many times from campground hosts who have told us that backpackers are by far the worst.
- If you are an irresponsible camper you need to be made accountable! Human waste and toilet paper is disgusting, and we’ve seen plenty of it on our travels. Paul and Tan 😊
You bring up very good points, well done. I agree with you, these issues need to be kept in the public spotlight. I think the pod-casters you showed were spot on. We do need to help create an environment where it is absolutely socially unacceptable to leave anything behind, except foot prints, when you leave the campsite. To me, leaving rubbish and other sh** shows a lack of respect for follow Australians and the environment. Working with national parks is a great idea. I think Simon from LifestylePioeers made a good suggestion about representation. Life is better when we have concern for each other and the World we live in.
Excellent episode, having someone to discuss the topics with is a great direction for the channel, it was good to see you bouncing off each other.
The rubbish including food scraps is a no from us, why also entice vermin. Collect your garbage for rubbish disposal and don’t crap in the bushes/beaches - get a loo.
Dumping broken gazebos & awnings are also a no from us. During the January holidays there was a pile of them left at Yuraygir National Park NSW - it’s so lazy & disgusting to expect someone else to clean up your mess.
Looking forward to next week.
Cheers Marg
Great video, the more this is called out the better. Seriously we don't know how people can not feel guilty when littering.
We always take all waste with us. If we have a fire going 100% throw your egg shells in the fire. But everything comes with us. We even have a large zip bag and put used meat bags or old vac seal bags in it and put it back in the fridge so it doesn't stink, then we throw it out when we are home or can find a proper bin. We also "walk the grid" as we call it after pack up, pick up every little tiny bit of anything (that's not supposed to be there) even if it was ours or the peoples before us and take it with us. There are many times I get home with a pocket full of other people's bottle tops and zip ties 😂
We call it emu patrol😊
@firebirdtravel that's a much better name!! 😆
Great ep mate! Definitely making waves in the community which is sparking people to speak up
About these issues with rubbish etc
Well done brother keep it going!
Great vid, well done guys!
Great topic guys…!
But unfortunately for what I’ve seen on our travels around Australia, it’s not the minority doing it , it’s at least 50/50 of the campers doing it. It is getting better though and talking about and showcasing it will definitely make a difference…! Happy to use..
Dylan can confirm that under the waste and recycling act leaving any waste including green waste is deemed as an offence, either littering or illegal dumping. This depends on the volume.
This act has very serious teeth and the penalties are extremely high. This act is enforced by local government.
It’s simple pack in pack out.
I agree with Elvin the homepage is algorithm driven but the search area is 100% search based. It’s even rated as the 2nd largest search engine only behind Google.
Cheers Dylan
I either get rid of any rubbish i have into the campfire or into a rubbish bag to take to the next bin.
This is the description of the petition,so he’s not not demanding stop to NP. He wants to know why they make the decision. It’s free speech so good on him for having a go.
“The petitioners request that the House conduct a parliamentary inquiry into all track and area closures in all NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service managed land over the last 10 years, including detailed justification for the restriction of public access in each area, and the ensuing economic impacts on local communities and associated industries”
I personally stop watching channels that spend a whole show talking about a location then say I won't name it it's only for locals or its private
Keep up the good work
Leaving food waste regardless of whether it will in time decompose is an absolute no no. Would you throw your over ripe bananas or half eaten cupcake in your garden, I don't think so therefore the same applies in the bush. As the say leave footprints only. We all ask why is it happening more now than before obviously many more people travelling and a lot of those people wouldn't have been bought up camping so they just don't get it and possibly some of them are so used to mum picking up after them that they think the mum fairy will magically appear and clean up for them. And sadly I think there is a notion amongst some that say out of sight out of mind so not my problem
These type of speak up videos are critical if we are to continue enjoying the great outdoors. The explosion we saw during COVID with 4WD and camping has created problems and councils and National Parks are having to react, unfortunately their reaction is not the answer. Agree with your thoughts, the community needs a voice from people who use the areas.
The only way we could get a say in National Parks is to get the Government to create a department for Recreational Users Rights and have full time staff working for us and i can't see that happening.. Plenty of 4WD associations have tried but get nowhere much due to having to make bookings with all the departments involved and having to get them all together at the same time.... Just one has to dodge it and it never happens. Happy for you to use any of my comments.
Yep, I have typed in Aussie Walkabout into TH-cam but i dont even turn up on the first page and nothing on the first page mentions both words. Makes it hard when people ask what your channel is and they still can't find it.
Good episode
Was in Texas free camp parked up after Australia Day weekend site was surrounded by dirty underwear what do people do when they stay there
Jesus, just wish I had hair let alone enough to plat.
Shitting in the ocean is so wrong what about when it floats on the the beach and respect ya neighbours and the next people ⛱️ you need to do better 😮
@@davidlawler6522 been surfing 40yrs and you’d be amazed how many people do aqua turds, the fish are already smashing it like burley before it’s completely out, enjoy your beach caught fish👌
Starting to notice a difference on comments on TH-camrs episode not doing the right thing an example Dash on Frazier getting 3 or 4 bogged instead of stopping after the first two was getting smashed in the comments
If you get a chance look at what Harry from Fire to Fork released today about council changes in Western Australia , no fire for cooking 👍
The beach shown with rows of cars is Aldinga/Silver Sands in South Australia, and the council charges a fee to drive on $12.00 for a day pass with a 1/3 going to local sporting clubs
Australia Day has been like that for many years. Normally, the access is closed to new vehicles before 9 am. due to numbers and room to park
Can't believe you just said when you camp on the beach you go down and crap in the water, that's disgusting...learn from your mate with the toilet...
Nothing wrong with an aqua turd😂🤙
100%
Dylan, I think you’re doing a great job with your channel & I agree with 99% of what you say. However, telling Australians & the millions of tourists that it’s OK to poop in the water at the beach is wrong. I just hope no-one follows suit! Treated sewerage is piped several kilometres off-shore. Untreated sewerage needs to be dumped further out than treated sewerage.
The thought of campers & backpackers pooping so close to shore will turn me off swimming for life!
People need to treat our environment as they would their own home.
Yeah I didn't think about the influence i could have on other Sorry.
This is a bit of an awkward conversation, but the fish eat it as I swim off, so don't think your going to go swimming and get hit by something 🤣😅🤣
But I agree I should have know better.
We should all be leaving no trace & that goes for feeding the wildlife too. Wild animals should not be eating human food, it isn’t good for them & can eventually affect their offspring as well. If everyone gives an animal ‘just a little bit’ then that animal is filling up on essentially junk food & not eating a balanced healthy diet.
The other side of the coin is, these videos also show that it's a problem and it's fodder for these clickbait media_news outlets to use them as headlines. Not in a good way.
I totally agree 👍 I made a comment on the 5 down under reel. In some people's minds it would be a negative comment towards them, but I was trying to say that highlighting the issue could be just adding fuel to the Fire and creating the ammo that National Parks can use against us !! Sorry but I have picked up tones of stuff over the years ! Maybe I should have filmed to give me that warm fuzzy feeling that I'm making a difference 🤔
Take your rubbish , and please dont empty your toilet cassette in the toilets ......another pet hate .
Happy to use
How naive are you, just one beach closed apparently to TH-cam naming the location do you not even consider the council just used that as an excuse to add weight to there decision because lets admit Gov depts are all so bloody honest.
