      So ... according to this . ..if 80% of accidents happen within 10 miles of one's home ..It does no good to move ..🙄. You will just have a home somewhere else 😒.. and the same thing will follow there , apply there as well ..🤨🤔😆😂. so ... question : what is the point in moving then🤔 ..??!? .. no matter where you go to live .🤨..there you will be .☺️🤗.if that statistic is true... then it is still true today .🤔.. .. just my humble opinion ... This is a scare piece created to scare the crap out of everybody & sell tires. .. no doubt outdated info 😄😄😅... suggest to take this bunk with a sense of humor ...don't forget .. It's an ad for General Tire 🚧🚧.😏trying to sell , sell , sell .🤑🤑🤑💲.🤨. ..That explaines the scare tactics..💰💲💰🤑🙄🤔 😆😆😝😜😄😄

    Tires have come a long way since then. Tires were tall and skinny tread. The wide oval came out in the 60's. Most cars today run on wide tread low profile tires. The best way to get around was with snow tires in the winter. They developed all season tires with the M&S rating. Still snow tires were the best. In the 80's I worked for a little independent tire dealer . We were primarily a B.F.Goodrich dealer. We sold all the major brands like Good Year, Michelin, Uniroyal, General, Continental, Pirelli, and some private label brands. I used the B.F.G Radial T/A's on both my 77 Trans Am's . I preferred the original rayon, nylon , constructed T/A's to the newer steel belted constructed version of the late 80's early 90's.

      @@BigEightiesNewWave Also radial tires, especially high speed tires with nylon layers around the steel belt, had this problem. More tham 30 years ago I faced this with a set of Avon Turbospeed CR 28 in 205/60 R 13 86H. These tires had a tendency to wear uneven and needed balanced frequently. This manufacturer is well known for its bias ply tires for older cars and motorcycles. I think they have had problems with the build of good radials. After 10 k miles on them I then went to a set of Falken FK 06U in the same dimension and all former problems are blown away.

      Reminds me of the Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires for light trucks, biggest joke the tire industry ever saw. Had a 1985 GMC Suburban with those things on it, it was a never-ending nightmare with shifted and broken belts. The dealer where the truck came from stopped after the 3rd problem and referred us to an actual Uniroyal tire dealer, who gave us an increasingly difficult time with every visit. Finally it got to be too much going in to the tire place every month, so we just said screw it and got all new tires of a different brand, completely unrelated to Michelin, Uniroyal or BFG. Yeah, it cost a few bucks but the freedom was worth it.

    • @matthiasrosenhagen2162
      @matthiasrosenhagen2162 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most people don't understand the principles of bias ply tires and radial tires. Radials are not always better. Bias plys have a greater comfort up to 40 mph. The sidewall of a bias ply tire is stiffer and less vulnerable to puncture than a radial one. Therefore bias plys are the first choice of many, which do l lot offroad driving; for example Interco Super Swampers, Pitt Bull Tires and others. Old cars have often, not always, a better behavior on the road with bia plys because their suspension is not suited for radials. Chrysler offered RTS "Radial Tuned Suspension" from 1965 to 1967 and Ford has made more than 100 modifications to their suspension system end of the 1960ies to usage of radials. Radials on the other hand give you more mileage and often better roadholding. Their tread is less vulnerable to puncture because of the belts beneath the tread. Their riding comfort is achieved via greater flexion of the sidewalls of the tire. Therefore it needs a carefull decision which tire type to choose.

      These tires are part of why highway fatalities were the same in 1965 as they were in 2015 in spite of Americans driving _four times_ as many miles! It wasn’t if you had a blowout, it was when... and no dual tire was 100% blowout proof.
      Modern radials are the epitome of reliability in comparison, and with tire pressure monitors it’s very hard to run on an under inflated tire.

      +Bruce Bryant I was in the tire business for years. A really funny thing about Michelins is that after WW2, the rest of the world was geared up for bias belted tires. France was decimated and didn't have the equipment to manufacture them. The radial tires that they made were really kind of a second rate tire. Instead of gearing up for bias ply tires, they, along with Dunlop kept improving it until it was the superior design that it is today. As for Michelins lasting so long, they do run a long time, but one of the main reasons for that is actually the cost. People that spend twice as much for a tire usually will take a lot better care of it. I have almost 90,000 miles on a set of Dunlops on a pickup. All i have done is keep the right amount of air in them and rotated them. That is all.

    Fact.....automobile and motorcycle tires have gotten a lot better today than in 1965. Notice the boy on the bicycle? Those tires are still relatively the same. Here’s where we should be focusing on! Our kids are riding these. In the 60’s some of the tires had tubes. Tubeless tires are the best. Even motorcycles have tubeless tires? Except for rims with spokes (correct me if I’m wrong, been out of the motorcycle phase for years). I have worked on kids bikes recently, sadly, they are not different than the video.....think about it! Jim
    PS......when you loose a tire on a car, it’s usually an inconvenience. When you loose a tire on a motorcycle, it is very serious. I purchased a 1980 Honda 750Custom, in 1990. It had mag wheels (no spokes) and tubeless tires. This was way ahead of its time. I never had an issue with the tires on that bike.

Those belts were truly life savers yet very few people bothered to wear them and if they did it was usually just the lap belt that offered very little protection in a collision. The shoulder belt in conjunction with the lap belt was extremely safe in those older cars. All of my friends picked on me for buckling up, especially wearing the shoulder belt.
