  • hello youtube,

    im switching gears a bit today, had a bit too much fun tracking the E46 over the weekend and cracked the expansion tank. Luckily i had a spare at home so heres a step buy step on how i changed out the expansion tank and bled the cooling system on my E46 BMW!

    this is a completely wrong way to do it, engine should never heat up that and you should be worried if it gets that hot. he just closed the cap when there was clearly too many bubbles popping out of the system. search up other videos on how to do it if you don’t want your head gasket blown!

    This video really helped me replace my expansion tank on my 330ci. Thank you

    following the fitment of some new coolant items on my e46 ( tank, hoses, trans oil cooler etc) i filled with water, bled it and ran it at idle til normal temp. after ensuring there was no leaks at operating temp, i drained the system (once it cooled down) and refilled with correct mix of A/F and dist water. That way if there was a leak i wouldn`t lose my A/F.

    Wrong procedure for bleeding

    • @alinaveed1793
      @alinaveed1793 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah! completely wrong and could badly damage the engine. find other videos that do it right and don’t heat the car up that much

    Its been said already but putting room temp water or coolant into an already hot engine (coolant was steaming hot) your will blow the head gasket.

      Whether the head gasket blows will depend on how much cold water you add, and how suddenly. IMHO adding cold water SLOWLY should be okay.

    ohh man I hope no one follow these steps to bleed their cooling system in their car. You could have done a great video but this procedure is totally wrong

    • @projman2155
      @projman2155 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bleeding could have worked even without using the bleeding screw, the problem was when he overfilled it and mostly water and capped it off for 10-15 minutes. He should have left the cap off while it warmed out and the bubbles no longer show.

    Why did you not to put Water with antifreeze?...and neither new cap one to the expansion tank?

    • @chowcares

      Water was mixed with coolant off camera. Radiator cap was actually relatively new, replaced only about a year ago. Should still have some life left

    Hey so I’ve got a manual e46 and I just recently replaced every cooling part but the radiator and the expansion tank retainer and for some reason I’m having a issue with it leaking from the bottom the retainer that goes into the back next to the drain and can’t figure out if a new one would fix it or not because they both don’t have i rings but the automatics

  • @vasilbachev6592
    @vasilbachev6592 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To all of you, people that love your e46 do not follow these steps! You have a bleeding screw why didn't use it at the beginning you've done a stupid mistake running the engine with airlocks in, never run those engines with needle to the right

    not at all how you bleed coolant on these, no car should have its temperature go past the middle section when bleeding. pop the bleeder screw and fill til bubbles stop coming out, done. monitor it a few days after to add if necessary due to heat cycles and expansion.
