  • Hi bro, in today's video I will deal with a lathe that my grandfather made in the 1980s. He made the lathe very professionally. Grandpa worked professionally on this lathe for over 25 years. Then the lathe was abandoned, which is why I will be restoring it today! I made the lathe to look like it was in the 1980s.
To bring her back to life, I had to add a few elements that were missing, I also changed the rotation switch, all the rest was original, only refreshed.

Very impressive machine. Definitely worthy of the rebuild and hopefully another 25 years of use.

Thank you, it's true! My grandfather made really solid equipment, the lathe is stiff and very precise, there is a fortune for the lathe to grind motorcycle cylinders.

This is a well made machine. Worth restoring it.. I wonder if you could make the chain longer and let it spin round and round by a electric geared motor... For automatic feed.. Greets from Germany

Thank you. The machine used to have a feed, but it broke down and grandpa gave it up.

Interesting parts choices! A milling machine became a lathe.
The positional pins in the round base of headstock negate the problem of rotation here.
Is the chain "leadscrew" as positionally accurate as any threaded stock? This would be fine for wood lathe, but I wonder for metal......... but it stays with the "theme" of using automotive/truck parts.
The rail is so solid he probably didn't have to surface grind flat.. just make the carriage as conforming/heavy as possible and good to go.
