The world of Bespoke is so fascinating that nothing ever feels forced in your delivery. Everything from the sidenotes about the bespoke maker to the design of the heel cup, it's all very interesting and enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great content! Subbed!

    Great looking Bespoke Cap Toe Oxford’s Kirby! I have 3 pair of CapToe Oxford’s which I will be sending in soon as they need to be refurbished with new soles and heels, etc. My Oxford’s are Church’s and are over 20 years old, yet they look new, except for the soles. These shoes were made when Church’s was “Church’s”. One pair is handcrafted and was Church’s top of the line shoe. I can’t wait to send them in for refurbishing. This video of your new Bespoke Cap Toes is motivating me to get moving and to send my shoes off to you for refurbishing. Can’t wait!

    Kirby, love your videos, especially on shoes. I got an 'all but new' pair of Allen Edmond Umbria Plain-Toe Monk Strap shoes from ebay. First thing I did was put a coat of Saphir Renoavateur on them and noticed an alarming amount of pigment on the cloth. I followed it up with the Pommadier and they look and feel great. Should I be concerned about the pigment on the cloth from the Renovateur? Loved this vid, congratulations on the new shoes.

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it is common for some pigment to come off of shoes when you shine them. And in total honesty, in many cases this is just old polish. The Saphir Renovateur is incredibly mild since it is water-based, so I wouldn't worry about it affecting any of the original finish.

    QUESTION: What is the difference between Allen Edmonds' Jefferson vs McAlister? They look identical.

    • @jasonpatelcpa
      @jasonpatelcpa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The design is identical, but the materials and the last differ. The Jefferson is part of the Independence collection, which uses in my opinion better upper leather, a sheepskin lining, a more durable double leather outsole, a more beautifully finished outsole, and a slightly roomier last. I find Independence shoes to be more comfortable out of the box as well. AE described the regular shoes (such as the Mccallister) as a 10-15 year shoe, whereas the Independence was more of a 15-20 year shoe (and the Cordovan shoes as a 20-30 year shoe). I like that visual analogy of quality. I'd say spring for the Independence shoe on sale, I doubt you'll regret it. My black captoe Oxford from that collection is one of my favorite shoes.

    • @edf2953
      @edf2953 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason, I’m just jumping in on this message after reading your reply message to Daniel. I am amazed at your knowledge of AE shoes which I buy exclusively. After reading your message, I will definitely consider one of AE’s Independence Line shoes for my next new shoe. May I ask how you became so well versed in AE shoes, as your knowledge is truly outstanding! Thanks.

    • @jasonpatelcpa
      @jasonpatelcpa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're too kind! I guess my understanding came by way of the 11 pairs of AE that I own, of which the Independence pairs (Bartlett, Hopkinson) are two of my favorite shoes. The step up in quality and wear enjoyment was considerable for me personally.

    Kirby, is it still possible to adjust the final pair of bespoke shoes? For instance, if you find there is too much room at the front of the shoes (which I suspect there is), is that something that can be fixed?

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think these shoes will probably need to be pulled apart and relasted and remade. There is a little bit of work that can be done to a final pair of shoes, but I think these are going to end up being a bit too roomy. Dominic Casey has already adjusted the last (pictures on @KirbyAllison instagram) and has sent me a second pair, which is sitting on my desk waiting for us to film an unboxing!!

Thus they sit there and wobble their heads around as they point to features of “high end” products and try to convince to to pay more for features that are often just different, not better.

  • @camshaft4456

    The time, effort and money you have gone to in order to obtain a fundamentally uninteresting pair of black Oxfords almost beggars belief. Given that you have regular feet with few problems a high quality shoe store will look after you perfectly well for this type of shoe.

  • @NikoBased
    @NikoBased 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I don't know why there are several people saying the shoes didn't fit? He said there was a little bit of room, and that Dom would re-last them if he wanted. He then carried on to say rarely are the first pair of bespoke shoes perfect, even though they fit. So everybody implying that the shoes don't fit are more or less judging Kirby on his lack of enthusiasm. Not fair to Dominic Casey, or Kirby for that matter.

I work as a private nurse so am by no means well off but some of the watches I own surprise people when they know what I do for a living! Cleverley certainly has a nice RTW offering. I believe they have two ranges: George Cleverley, which runs around $600, and Anthony Cleverley, which runs around $1,600. But one of the benefits of being in London is the opportunity to visit many of the best RTW shoemakers in the world -- they are are all located literally within walking distance, and many of them even on the same street (Jerymn Street).
      If you are in London, I would stop by Davidoff of London on the corner of St. James and Jerymn Street, say hello to Eddie Sahakian, buy a cigar to smoke celebrate your shoes once you've decided, and take a stroll down Jerymn Street. You can visit Edward Green, Foster & Sons (which just launched a RTW collection they manufacture in their brand new Northampton factory), Crockett & Jones, and Church's. Then you can drop by Gaziano & Girling on Savile Row and Cleverley in the Royal Arcade. So many great options...

    Mr. Allison, by purely focusing on the quality of construction, the finishing and finesse of the shoes, would you say that the premium of 1500 Pound from a Dominic Casey to a Foster is justified or will I be paying just for the name? Many thanks

      Ohh... tough question. You certainly do pay not just the name, but the business structure with larger firm. And there are certainly benefits to that, like a robust trunk show travel schedule that you often do not find with the smaller, independent makers. You are more likely to get a good pair of shoes from a heritage maker without much investigation than you are an independent that you don't know anything about, but the internet has allowed a lot of really talented independents (who would otherwise be doing the same work for the heritage makers as outworkers) to work directly with clients. Deals can be found, but you have to do your homework. Regarding, Dominic, he makes a great shoe and is a really great guy. I'd certainly, if I was on a budget, seriously consider him or any of the other very talented independent makers, especially if I was in London.
      P.S. We plan to do some filming with Nicholas Templeman here soon, who also has a very good reputation as an independent.

      @@kirbyallison First of all, thank you very much for your answer. Another question came to my mind regarding the fit. Do the larger shoemakers get the fit better for the first pair or in general due to skilled craftsmen focused on one aspect instead of doing the last and the welting etc. all by themselves?

    Kirby,
    You should check out undandy custom shoes.
    The bespoke shoes you show are formed specific to your foot anatomy. But they lack the ability to customize any parts of the shoe. At undandy, you can do a full customization on a pair of dress shoes (oxfords, loafers, derby’s, monk strap, boots) for around 200$. From the vide, you mentioned you spent over 2 thousand dollars on 1 pair of dress shoes. A video of you reviewing undandys inexspensive bespoke alternative shoes would be a cool idea for a video.
    Great video by the way Kirby,

    They are beautiful shoes but I’m quite well served by Edward Green shoes and the leather moulds to my foot in any case! Great if you’ve got the budget for bespoke or have unusual shaped feet!

    I must ask- you already own so many black cap toes. At least one for every other day. Do you ever not get bored of owning so many shoes of the same design? I understand how you can have the in-depth aspects of the shoe being different, but from an exterior view, I wonder? I know bespoke allows for each shoe to be “ unique”.

    I think I said in a previous episode that the shape of the toe on this one is really old school which generally we don’t see now at it’s all the better for it but the master stroke is the seamless heel which brings it bang up to date, the best of all worlds, these are my favourite BCTO’S so far and dare I say having watched this from the start they are a veritable bargain! Wonderful Kirby.

      I couldn't agree with you more. And I'm delighted you've resubscribed... hahaha. Because I was really missing your comments! Yes, the toe "Kirby Negroni Clubland" toe shape on this shoe really is quite special. The three-dimensionality of the toe puff really makes this shoe stand out. I absolutely love it. However, the seamless back also is quite the special detail! I can't wait to polish those heels up!!

    I tend to lean towards more chiseled toe shapes, but that is a very well structured round toe. Also, I should say that I really appreciate how you are able to highlight the variations within bespoke and mtm products. For example, even though you have regularly purchased shoes from G&G and George Cleverly, you still find a way to highlight an artisan like Dominic Casey. Or you have videos showing appreciation for Allen Edmonds, but recognize that for some a similarly (slightly higher) priced shoe like Carmina can be a great alternative.
    You also regularly note how much of a bargain individuals like Mr. Casey or MyTailor offer in the high end mens wear market. You are masterful in showing the distinction between products while still noting the value in each (you seem to recognize that nothing in the topics you cover is "one size fits all", so to speak), and that is something that is helpful to the viewer/follower (I find it of great value at least).
