I just love this version of Morgan. I have spent my life adoring Kiri,s singing! She was born the day before me which has given me many lovely years . At times like this I love youtube!
I think the little wobble in Dame Kiri's voice is a recording imperfection, not her voice briefly losing its tension. And even if it was her aging voice... for me it is perfection.
I prefer this version at this tempo and I love her soft sound, it transports me to a calm, peaceful landscape. My soul feels peace! Thank you Kiri for being so special! ❤️
Strauss and Dame Kiri is like chocolate and cream- the two go hand in hand. She is wonderful in this repertoire and along with Lisa della Casa and Fleming - one of the most beautiful Strauss sopranos to have graced the operatic stage!! This performance is especially fine. Brava.
Have to agree with coloraturissimo and domi2020--this performance is the high point of the Belgrade concert--how I would have loved to be there! And I must comment again on the violin soloist's beautiful tone and interpretation.
Oh Joy! I would like you to know Kiri will be 80 years old on Wed 6th March. I know this as I will also be 80 this week but the day after (March 7th). Not bad for a "war baby"!! She still does it for me!
She is one of the best Richard Strauss sopranos with Liza Dela Casa(1919-2012),Dame Elizabeth Scwartzkopf(1915-2006),Gundula Janowich (1939),Dame Felicity Lott(1947),Renee Fleming(1959) e outras. Aqui cantando maravilhosamente Morgen.
Kiri te Kanawa's voice was never small. The problem with this interpretation, acknowledging the typically creamy Kiri colour, is the mannered portamento and phrasing. Janowitz, Norman and even Fleming have greater natural flow. But then there is Schwarzkopf - la non plus ultra.
I'm not entirely sure but did I not hear both a false entry and a voice wobble in that first phrase...? Much as I love this artiste I felt this was a lacklustre reading. For me, the combination of Gerald Moore and Janet Baker are beyond compare in this gorgeous song... Even 'Fishy' was disappointing to my ears in this piece.

I love this Lady!

magnifique comme toujours
Thanks for the upload. It's late Dame Kiri. A small battle with her instrument. Still very enjoyable. :-)
Absolutely brilliant. So beautiful.
This is a Pin-Drop performance, as in "You could hear a pin drop." Perfection.

Thank You
She must be one of the finest interpreters of Strauss ever. Although i prefer earlier versions of her singing this piece.
ANGEL SOPRANO...BRAVA KİRİ TE KANAWA...İNCREDİBLE TECHNİQUE...
Excellent!

Lisa della Casa ... yeah!
Lisa Della Casa, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Gundula Janowitz. The spelling of German (and italo-Swiss) names is difficult indeed ..
Margaret Price.
Dame 👑 🙏
Of course Jessye Norman(1945) too.
Arohanui
Sublim!!!
I prefer the recording she did with Solti … that was some glorious singing. Here, her voice is showing the effects of age. Poignant but not her best.

Always these totally useless and boring comparisons

Oh dear, such a snooty and infantile comment.
Rather slow - loses its shape.
Agree. Rather flaccid, this…
The first violin is playing too sharp!
Oh, shut up.
Nice but little voice.
hahahahhahaha
Get off your butt and try it then.
This is really an orchestral piece with voice accompaniment. The vocal lines interject statements over the melody in the orchestra.
This is not a gut busting operatic piece. It is supposed to be soft and sensitive.
The conducting was too soft. Lousy leadership from the podium.
The violinist's vibrato is so intrusive and doesn't serve the music well. When will this practice end?
Oh, the HORROR!
When will the practice of completely useless and uninteresting comments end?
The violins are so out of tune!
Loser.
