For me it always was, is and will always be the most beautiful car interior that was ever designed. Looking at this dashboard and the center console feels like looking at a picture of your first crush.
My next car will be a W124 Mercedes. Simply because it is a car, not a computer on wheels. The instruments on the dashboard are so clear. No distraction. No menus. No cup holders. Given the free choice between a brand new Mercedes and a the W124, I would go for the W124.
You clearly are very aware and appreciative of a well designed and engineered product. You're also buying a car that will appreciate in value with care and gentle usage, one that will never let you down. A word of advice - from a 10 year+ owner of a W123 and W124 - always, always buy genuine MB parts only from the dealer. The only parts that fail on these cars is wear and tear rubber components and the Mercedes dealer will never sell parts that have been lying on the shelf for several years. It is tempting to save a little money with aftermarket but don't do it. We all have tried and regretted it because these rarely fit correctly and do not perform like the rest of the car. And always visit the specialist in your country that really knows these cars. You'll pay more but you'll save ALOT more from the old guy's experience and knowledge vs. someone who doesn't know the common problem areas of these cars.
Nice! It for sure looks like a W124 dash and so the steering wheel looks like a W123 big round circumference steering wheel. I like both W123 and W124. Both are great!

The solid sounds throughout the cabin as it vibrates through bumps, the gruff from the 6 cylinder as it accelerates, the tire noise, which isn’t quiet but never noisy are all charms of the W124. I drive a 400E and besides the engine noise, it shares all the charms of the 124, regardless of the absence of electronics. I find it to be mechanically more advanced than modern cars and a pleasure to spend time driving. I hope you continue to drive your 300E and thanks for posting this charming video.

nice car. I now own two w124's a 1986 300E 3.0 with no rust and only 115k miles and also a 1990 300E 3.0 with 220k miles sad to say the 1990 needs work so thats why I had to get a better one.

Father wanted to sell his W124 260E after he bought the W203 C300 I told him fuck it you want to sell this masterpiece so We’d buy a Crappy Kia or a Honda Accord, when I graduate. Keep this car and that would be the best gift you’d give me ever (I’m a huge fan of Merc classics, however I get ridiculed by my friends fo it). What is nice about my car is that it’s the 1989 model however the hood and trunk lids were changed to that of the 1994 ones to give it a more modern W140/W202 look.
I want one of these to, i would want to have the real 80s luxury car either 260 or 300 with airco, automatic, leather seats, wood. I really wonder how it feels to drive one, i bet it feels great. Right now i have a Seat toledo from the year 2000.

I need to have some questions to be asked if anyone knows. 1) Which category of a W124 is best regarding the HP and the Cylinder Capacity? 2) Should it be diesel or gasoline? 3) Which is more economical regarding the fuel efficiency and has a decent driving potential at the same time? I am not looking for an AMG btw. And the final question which production year is the best? Thank you.
Personally I like petrol mercs the most, they have a bit more power and are more quiet to drive. 230E is a bit more fuel efficient, and also has decent driving potential. And any w124 between '85 and '95 is the best ^^
The 85-86 models had some electrical issues. I better prefer 90-95 models. The diesel engines will last much longer than petrol engines, and use less fuel. 300D with and without turbo, that is the 'top of the line' diesel models.
Great car indeed, mine is from '86, and came already with some nice options like airco and orthopaedic seats! Just keep your eyes out for a nice model (y)

I have a W124 and a Volvo 240. Very different machines, but both built to last forever, both astonishingly analogue and unfettered.

I used to say the same but I learned this, unless you use carbs you will have to deal with a cpu, Fuel injection KE Jetronic

I used to have two W124 1990 MT and AT and one W123 1985 MT
I love them very much but I sold them in one go due to my work separate us away
designed very well. both from inside and outside. my grandad had an 300e 1986. Dad had a passat 2000. merc was better except fuel consumption.

No, it's because of the microphone, every single car will appear louder and noisier when filming inside.
