    Is your rear wiper arm loose? Dangling? No longer gripped to the motor shaft? Or perhaps it's still intact to the shaft, but you found a ton of corrosion and even a crack in the plastic wiper arm itself?
    This is a full step process of removing a (very) stuck wiper arm without damaging the motor. In this video you'll see how we progressed through simple to complex pulling and removal without the need for cutting or destroying anything.
    Check out the amazon links (they're affiliates, so anything you buy through these links supports the channel- thank you for that!) and please let me know if you have any questions or comments in the COMMENTS section below.
    Thanks so much and good luck!

    Thank you - I originally found your video because somebody else posted it on their channel without attribution. Anyway, I lost the arm and spring in a conveyor belt car wash today, but they retrieved it for me. I was able to reattach the spring on both ends without removing the assembly by freezing the video at 4:03 and noting how the spring hooked the two other two pieces of the assembly. Edit: I have a 2019 Explorer. The manager thought I would have to get the Ford dealer to reinstall it.

    Very good and informative video. In most case, the pulling tool is not needed. Take off the nut. Let the WD-40 soak for a few minutes. Then simply turn on wiper, the twisting force will force the wiper arm loosen.

    This helped and gave you a 'like' but personally I had the spline with the tapered threading on the side which it wasn't obvious if I should pull it off the shaft. My old wiper/arm had the plastic crack and came right off but when it came time to loosen the bolt and slide on the new arm it wasn't fitting with the spline there. So I wasn't sure if I had the wrong part or that piece also needed to be pulled off. I think a mention of the spline would be really a key piece of information that would be really helpful. I ended up using the 'puller' tool and the spline popped right off and the rest was trivial

    Good info. However, my 2013 Escape SE rear wiper blade had a snap slot with about a 1/4" slide in the slot. So the blade would snap on then slide about a 1/4" to set the pin (slide the blade towards the arm spindle to set). I didn't know this. Needless to say, using a screwdriver to pop off the blade also broke the pin on the arm. Had to order a new wiper arm and of course could not get it off the spindle. Using a puller actually pulled the plastic off of the bushing so had to cut the bushing to remove it from the spindle.

      Hmm that is interesting- you MIGHT be able to take the arm off and hide the hose inside the arched structure of the arm. You could also look at lawn sprinkler /garden irrigation nozzles from the hardware store to mount to the end of the hose and act as the sprayer to fan out the fluid before wiping. I'm not sure how much room would be left for your hose but I would think you could use a Dremel to maybe cut out a path for the hose then epoxy or zip tie it in place somehow...this would all be with the arm off the vehicle of course. Then maybe get an in-line connector to rejoin it to your vehicle's fluid line when you go to install it so it is a modular setup?

    Could you tell me what size nut is used? I somehow lost the original, and went for 5/16 (didn't fit), m9 (metric, also didn't fit). I got both coarse and fine thread assortments of nuts that seem to fit, but are tight when threading, and I don't want to do damage. Any help is appreciated!

    Be very careful because the underside edge of the nut cover is very, very sharp and is held down with strong vertical spring tension!! Wear protective gloves when dealing with it! I'm lucky I didn't suffer a major cut on my finger or worse when I recently performed the above task and with me it occurred while struggling trying to remove the "stuck" wiper blade arm from the motor...before finding this video!!

    Would it be fine to apply copper antiseize instead of threadlock where the bolt tightens?

    • @HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews
      @HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      good question- I think yes on where the straight splines go into the brass nut of the wiper arm so that it doesn't get stuck again in the future, but no, you do not want to put it on the threads of the actual nut otherwise you could risk it loosening and coming off over time with vibration. You want that nut on there snug or else the wiper arm will lift off the motor post and hang loosely downward or strip out the splines.

    Hi I just replaced my wiper arm and now the motor will not turn it it just makes this grinding noise. Do you know what I can do to fix this?

    • @Monkeychunks8690
      @Monkeychunks8690 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      oof- Hi Matt- thanks for checking in. This motor is a gear motor - I believe it is a worm gear that turns a main sprocket for a ton of torque for the wiper. Sounds like the gear teeth on either component may have stripped, especially if you're hearing a grinding noise. If you put your hand on it do you feel it vibrate when it grinds and does it only grind when the wiper should be traveling? I haven't ever done a replacement on my Escape, but I do know you can find a replacement one here for a decent price ( Rock Auto) . It may not be that challenging of a job either, but just time to get to it. Please let me know if you have any questions- sorry you're dealing with this. www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3588405&cc=1503985&jsn=893

      It sounds like your motor post got turned too far. Try taking the wiper arm off again. With the arm off and the post bare, press the button to operate the rear wiper and then let it stop in its intended home position. Then, reinstall your wiper arm and hold the arm when tightening the nut so that you don't turn the post again by accident. Basically a reset of the home position for the motor

    I bought the puller tool and it slips off every time it gets tight any advice

    • @HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews
      @HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok so you put the new wiper arm on there and tightened it and it still falls down? The puller tool should help it to come off but it shouldn't have any use afterwards, nor an effect on how the nut tightens back on the arm. Did you inspect the vertical splines inside the bushing on the plastic arm and the same style splines on the motor post? If those are worn away then yes it will loosen and fall down again. The splines are like gear teeth which hold the position of the arm to the motor when the nut is tightened down. They're critical. If thats not the case, then your motor may be bad and the post not able to hold position. The motor shaft should have a lot of resistance to it. If the nut is tight and the splines are holding and its still falling down, its likely your motor.

    • @HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews

      Hi Nick, if you follow this video, you'll see the procedure to pull the arm. The motor is on the inside of the door / hatch and you pull the inside trim to access it. Please see our backup camera video for info on pulling the trim if you need a step by step. Your theory sounds correct on it possibly being bad if you're hearing noises but not seeing the correct motion :/ Good luck!
