I don't do hema. But I will still buy one of these. Simply because I really like sabers. And maybe, just maybe, this will strike enough of a spark to get me into the hobby.
Great video! i myself do Berlin school sabre, which as a service weapon has the Prussian m1811, which is very reminiscent of the Brtish 1796 LC, so I might just get this :) On a side note, have you ever thought about branching out to other sabre sources besides Roworth (maybe even some Austrian ones)?
Yeah, this sabre can totally represent a Blücher! :) To answer your second question: when our club started offering sabre classes, the first source that was taught was Barbasetti, we then switched to Hutton and when I started teaching more I decided to focus on Roworth. Personally, I dabble in other sources all the time but Roworth is the one I focus most on at the club together with Mathewson and Angelo.
Alles in allem is Säbelfechten halt schon anders als Langes Schwert. LG
@@historyandsabre definitiv. Vlt finde ich ja was geeignetes.
Is it safe to train with? I’ve heard some people say it’s so front heavy you could shatter a collarbone training at full force, even with a padded jacket.
@@matthewcoates756 I'd always recommend hard elbow and knee protection for anything more substantial that a smallsword. As long as you've got that, your're good. People also hit each other with two-handed steel sticks and heavy broadswords - you should be fine! :)
Depends on your preferfed period and language. For getting into English-language sabre manuals dor fencing on foot I'd recommend Charles Roworth and John Musgrave Waite. For cavalry check out John Gaspard Le Marchant who wrote the manual linked to the sabre you see in the video.
Thanks a lot, I was kinda on the fence about getting one of these. I might just get one now, I usually just rented gear for hema and I have been thinking about getting some of my own kit, Do you have any recommendations for who to buy from and what not?
Hi, sure I can help you out a bit. Where are you located? That often makes a bug difference and I can only talk about the European market. Honestly, I don't recommend this model here as you first/only HEMA sabre for fencing on foot. Get the infantry version or some other model, if you're not explicitly wanting to train cavalry swordsmanship. You'll be much happier. Cheers
@@historyandsabre Hey Thanks for replying, I live in Minnesota. And I've been thinking of getting either this or the infantry, as well as getting my own mask and mayby some more.
This is 100% the kind of content I love to see
Noice!

Nothing wrong with that - you can like sabres just for what they are!
I bought this for $90 best birthday present ever!
Yeah, awesome! ✌️
Great review! Looks like a great addition to the kit.
Yeah, it's interesting to use! Thanks ✌️
Always happy to see new videos. Keep on the good work. Much respect 😇🙏
Great, thank you for the support! 🙌

Hey mate, I do think your original is on the small side in length. The blade was smaller than mine if I recall correctly ;).
Thanks for the confirmation, I was kinda surprised because it should be a tad longer indeed! It's just my example then.
Do they make custom metal swords?
I've seen some customised stuff from BlaclFencer but I don't know what they are willing to do. Best ask them directly.
Is it safe to train with? I’ve heard some people say it’s so front heavy you could shatter a collarbone training at full force, even with a padded jacket.
Yes, I'd say it is safe. It is pretty hefty but still manageable with full sparring equipment!
@@historyandsabre Will the SPES Officers Jacket offer sufficient protection?

I'm confused. Do you not spar with metal swords??
Not only - these are cheaper options for when you want to simulate different weapons without spending a whole lot.
