Holiness

In the opening of 1 Peter, believers are called to a life of holiness, but rather than holiness, the law of God reveals our desperate need for a Savior. We must fight for holiness, and can only do so because Christ obeyed perfectly in our place. The law, therefore, directs our obedience as we strive to become more like Christ. Because Christ bore our sin, all of God’s wrath was extinguished on the cross, and we can rejoice in the fact that when the Father looks at us, he does not see our sin, but Christ’s perfect obedience.
