    *100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*

    Thank you for your many informative videos! As an older woman, I have a real fear of what life after marriage might be like, as illness has wiped out our savings and after having the cancer, my husband is no longer able to purchase adequate life insurance. So god forbid anything should happen to him, I’ll be left on my own with a home I won’t be able to afford to keep, so I’m learning as much as I can about van/camper life because I really think that it will be my only option. I’m handy and very independent, but I don’t want to spend what little money I’ll have foolishly, so having kind folks like you do the trial and error part, I know I’ll have the best chance of literal survival. Thank you!💕

    Insightful. If any of your subscribers are thinking about the Predator they may note that Harbor Freight's Black Friday price is going to be $679. Also a magazine whose name begins with "Consume..." and ends with "Reports" recently rated the Predator brand about equally favorable compared to the Honda. Thanks for sharing another slice of real life!

    Thanks for this video. I'm watching a bunch of 'em preparatory to a run into Cheyenne tomorrow. Harbor Freight emailed a 10% off coupon today and whenever a winter storm knocks out the power we'll have juice to run the gas furnace. Seems prudent and in keeping with the good example of our Mormon neighbors.

    Snow! Living in central NC...I get excited when I see snow (which has been a pretty rare event here in recent years).
    Thanks for this video review...I've been eyeing the Predator 3500 for both an emergency backup at home (keep the fridge and freezer going during power outages) as well as a potential future travel trailer partner.
    Hearing good things from someone I trust is very helpful in making that decision!
    BTW, a 10db difference is generally stated to be double the perceived sound loudness (psyco-acoustic level)...so that's a big deal.
    But I have to admit, I was expecting to see a puppy today!!

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LOL I think everyone was expecting a puppy video. We hadn't had her long enough to get good footage of her. We definitely will work her into this weeks midweek update video. I like having the Predator at home as well. I have an electric wood splitter and the Generac won't run it but the Predator does just fine.

    Silly me, I was out working on the chicken coop listening to every HF predator 3500 generator review/mod/test/mangle video I could find and must have been ‘pocket writing’ a comment. I purchased a 3500 generator a couple days ago and have been researching the best upgrades (iridium spark plugs, magnetic oil dipstick, re-jetting to lean it out a bit, airflow for cooling, magical oil...., etc..) and am impressed with all the wisdom everyone shares. It’s my first generator and am making the best attempt at learning from other’s mistakes before making my own inevitable doozies.

      The PREDATOR weighs 130# with gas & oil. The 100# weight mentioned several times by Patrick is the DRY weight of the generator. You need to figure you will NOrMALLY be lifting well over 100#. Gas weighs approximately 8# per gallon, a full gas tank of 2.5 gallons adds 20# to the generator's weight.

    Predator 3500, Loncin LC3500i, Chicago Pneumatic CPPG3i, Powerhorse 3500, BE13500L3500, Echo Bearcat IG3500E, Campeon LC3500i, Anteng AT3500i are all the same generator. Note that Echo, one of the most trusted names in power equipment, is among them. If you should need parts for your predator you can get them from Pillar Equipment in Silvis, Illinois. They are an Echo part supplier.

    Great video and noise level comparison . I watched many videos about the Predator 3500 before deciding .. yes I purchased the Predator 3500 over a year ago . I'm very happy with it and have not used it in an emergency situation yet .. no long term electrical outages as I type . The price and running wattage was a selling point for me . I'm using it as a backup for that day I need it for long term usage . I'm also planning to use it in a cargo trailer or travel trailer ( TAB 400) to travel with . I haven't purchased a TAB 400 yet but have seen 2 at 2 different dealership . Good Luck with your Predator 3500 great choice !

    Excellent, informative, coherent video, as usual, Patrick.
    I've read all the replies before composing mine.
    1. To emphasize what Patrick said; online reviews for the Predator are an overall FAVORABLE consensus. You might want to consider keeping an NKG replacement spark plug on hand for the Predator, in fact, several reviewers said the first thing they did was pull the spark plug out of the Predator & replace with an NKG brand plug.
    2. I especially liked you took your decibel reading from the muffler side of the generators. As quiet as the Predator is, it is even quieter from any other direction away from the muffler.
    3. in terms of weight, Patrick, I'd like to "add" that the Predator weights more like 125#+ when you consider a full tank of gas (20#) + oil + the Predator (100#+) = 125#
    4. I wish you'd demo'd starting the cold Predator with the hand pull start & then the electric start.
    5. I'd recommend SeaFoam instead of StaBil for fuel stabilizer for both generators based on the following article: weingartz.com/expert-advice/2017/01/fuel-stabilizers-sta-bil-or-sea-foam/
    6. I am a Honda 2200i owner.....FWIW
    Keep your eye on your mailbox, I've some goodies for you that are in a small bubble wrap envelope that are on their way as of Tuesday, 13 Nov.

    Thank you for the comparison. I think its only a matter of time till Honda sales start to slip due to Harbor Freight and other who are making quality affordable generators. The one upgrade to make right away is change out the cheap HF spark plug that comes with the Predator to a high quality plug like NGK. At 100 lbs it is a bit heavy but still lighter than the Honda. With a quality spark plug and the extended warranty I think Predator is solid choice.

    I have been using it for 2 years.
    I run it about 2 weeks a month.
    Pretty wide open running equipment.
    I’ve had very few issues, I had to change out the on/off switch, that’s it.
    Did it myself, very easy to do.
    It was $9.00 off EBay.
    Also I service it approx every 50 hours.. change oil.. clean filters.

      1- get the $8 magnetic dip stick on amazon.
      2- use regular Dino oil for the first 3-4 oil changes (no synthetic for the first 30 hours)
      3- watch TH-cam videos on how to change the oil
      4- change oil at 1 hour, 4 hours, and then 15 and 30 hours. Cleaning the dipstick of metal shavings often.

    Great compare and contrast! You helped me make a decision about that Harborfreight generator. Your video productions have really come a long way! Good use of cutaways to cover cuts in the storyline. Only suggestion, get a lav wired or wireless mic - your information is too good to be lost due to background noise. It’s the cheapest improvement any film maker can make.

      @lbsound 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Rode shotgun is great for ambient stuff and indoor shooting where there's not a lot of background noise - they also have a new wireless rig that's quite good. The secret with Lav mics is to get them as close to your Adam's Apple. What the Lav mic will allow you to do is have a louder VO to background noise ratio which means your overall mix volume can be louder. It's a continual learning process!

      @TravelswithDelaney  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +csktx Most generator tests to rate decibel levels are done at a distance of 23’-25’. So when you see a company post a rating, it’s usually from those distances.

      csktx - Many campers (like myself) enjoy boondocking on BLM land. Most of the time you won't see another camper for miles. Therefore having it 25 feet away (the most common extension cord length) will make it seem even more quiet being that far away from your campsite. ;-)

    Nice review. I went with the Honda 3000 about 4 years ago, and yeah the price was expensive. But its paid for now. Its always hard to compare over a video, but the Predator seems to be very close in sound levels. As to life expectancy, well that's always hard to call and quite frankly depends on how its used. The fact that you could buy almost three Predators for what the Honda cost is pretty telling though.
    One suggestion buy fuel that doesn't have alcohol in it. If it sits for a long time it can destroy even engines rated for it. Also gas stabilizer since it sits for a while. I start mine monthly and let it run for 30 minutes. That gets some fuel and lubricants moving, charges the battery and gives me the comfort level that when I need it, it will work.

    The noise difference is significant even without looking at a decibel meter and I love the start button feature. But lifting 100 pounds off of my truck would throw my back out on the first try. I'm just wondering, (1) do you think I would I be able to leave that in the bed of my truck while it's running? (2) If I left it in the truck bed (which has a hard tonneau cover on it), do I need to worry about ventilation? (3) Would I also be able to leave an extra propane tank in the bed of my truck while traveling? Thanking you in advance for the guidance - my journey will soon start!

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not expert on this subjects you might want to ask that question on a forum. I personally don't know why you couldn't run it in the bed of your truck with the tailgate down and the exhaust pointing out. Can you open your tonneau cover for ventilation? I would think as long as you have the propane tank strapped down so it can't move, it would be fine.

      @@TravelswithDelaney Thanks! Yes, I can lift my tonneau cover for ventilation - I was more concerned about ventilation while traveling down the road when everything has to be closed. I had read somewhere that you should always have ventilation for gas tanks and propane tanks even while they're not in use. But that was one person's opinion and I couldn't find any other info to colloborate with that opinion. Thanks again for taking the time to answer - I've been learning a lot from your videos!

      @azclaimjumper 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lisa, you'll be dealing with more like 125#, NOT 100#. 2.5 gallons of gas will add approx 22# + oil. Propane & gasoline products produce "vapors" which are heavier than air & can EXPLODE with merely nearby sparks. To avoid causing an explosion, you absolutely HAVE TO Ventilate B4 starting the generator. Keep in mind, if you keep the generator in the back of a tow vehicle that it will get COLD & COLD BATTERIES don't produce the starting current the same as warm batteries. You would need to face the generator so the exhaust can escape away from the truck bed + you need to have the generator facing in such a way that you can pull the cord to start it IF the battery is dead or not producing the starting current needed. Battery starting is questionable in COLD temperatures.

So far on the + side it runs very quiet compared to my neighbors it has a 6.6 gallon tank will run at 50% for 12 hours and has a 14 hp motor. Now on the negative side although it comes with electric start the battery is sold separate it doesn’t come with a 4 prong power cord and wheels are also sold separately. But it was 300 cheaper then same watts as Lowe’s sales and it starts with 2 pulls besides as often as I’ll use it I won’t need a battery but the gas tank is also 1.6 gallons larger then the Lowe’s Generator That has a 5 gallon tank.

    The 3500,4000 industrial and two 700
    I have had fantastic luck with return to harbor freight
    The original 700 watt I used for about 7 years of heavy abuse
    The new 700 w I run from 7pm to 7am for satellite internet we are completely off grid so phone works through internet
    I bet 75 to 100 % of generator are not made where you think they are
