    Great video! One other tip is to have a headlamp in your vehicle and/or med kit because it’s extremely helpful to be able to work with both your hands without having to hold a traditional flashlight in one (or in your mouth).

      Totally agree. The headlight is very useful so you can stay hands free and so you aren’t pressing blood or germs to your flashlight.

    Great video: thank you. I would suggest that your "Mini Module" include Aspirin (even if you have to remove either of ibuprofen or acetaminophen) ... it has similar effects to the others, but in a heart attack situation, there's not much else that can help.

    👍👍👍 I need to add shears to my kits. Thank you!

      The XShears are solid shears. The economy version of shears is a great budget option for multi purpose scissors too.

    I would caution against using the Resqme tool as the only glass breaking option as I have purchased 4, and of those the spring loaded mechanism has failed on 2 without having used any of them before (the entire mechanism depresses without any resistance). This occurred simply from putting the keys/tool in my pocket on a daily basis over about 1 yr. I have heard stories of this tool spring mechanism failing from others too. Not confidence inspiring. I carry a Leatherman raptor rescue tool now as this has the seatbelt cutter and carbide glass breaker, while also functioning as trauma Shears. Great video by the way enjoyed the content!

      Good to know. I haven’t had issues out of those tools but since they are all plastic I could see where they might have problems. Thanks for chiming in!

    Thank you for the info!
    I live up in Ohio. We have a cold winters and hot summers. My vehicle gets both hot and cold sitting outside. How often to you recommend switching out supplies in my vehicle first aid kit?

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most supplies should be fine to be in the heat and cold such as tourniquets, gauze, etc. The main thing I would watch out for would be things that have adhesive properties to them or liquids. Think of chest seals, tape and liquid medications. I have not heard of how long chest seals can stay in heat before they start to come apart though. I’m running my own tests right now to see how they hold up over time in heat and will share my findings when I have better data.

      @@SixEcho I would also wonder how the clotting compound in combat gauze would hold up to heat, and if it would be as active following a long hot summer. I carry my gear in a fanny pack which often goes into a backpack and stays with me for this reason.

    In a pinch will a rachet tie down strap act as a tourniquet? Can it impart enough pressure to stop blood flow? I carry 5 CAT tourniquets in my truck but in the event of multiple trauma patients I'm just curious. Thank You

      @joesieg4444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't 100% know the answer but I'm 99% confident that if you had no other options a ratchet strap would do the job

    • @tomgosy
      @tomgosy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's plenty of research to suggest that almost all improvised TQs are ineffective. Even if you were planning for an MCI, I would guess 5 TQs is enough (with the addition of packing gauze, trauma bandages, chest seals etc.)

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Could you make it work under the right circumstances? Probably. Are there several things that could go wrong so that you can’t get the bleeding to stop with it? Yes.
      The strap is not very wide. And the ratchet mechanism doesn’t flex so it doesn’t squeeze evenly on all sides so I might not occlude where the artery is. It MIGHT work but shouldn’t be relied on as a primary for sure. If you run out of options and have nothing left, you gotta adapt and overcome.

    There is nothing more potentially costly than a cheap medical kit. Get quality gear and pay the price.
