Im happy for you. My wife was 30 when we met. I was 47. So we had a 17 year gap but it was never ever an issue. It actually enriched us culturally since, for example, we shared music from different eras. In the end, things didn’t work out but, again, it wasn’t the age gap. One amusing story where age perhaps got in the way: when her sister got married, all the couples were in their early 40s while I was in my mid 50s. I was getting tired, having helped set the wedding up, driving and picking things up. Then came the wedding and then the reception and then everyone wanted to go clubbing. My Grandfather asked my Grandmother to marry him after only knowing her a week. He was 37, she was 22. They were married almost 50 years before Grandpa passed. They had five children and nine grandchildren, all of whom loved them very much. They are my greatest example of a successful and happy family life. The age difference never came into question. People used to make comments about my husband “robbing the cradle” and it made me mad because they knew nothing about us and just judged. I have always been an old soul and he was always younger at heart. We we’re friends first for a long time and he didn’t even realize our age gap was that much because I was always mature and looked older too. As a 22 year old that’s dating a 35 year old, it’s nice to relate to an age gap like this. I get that it sounds like a big deal but it’s not, you don’t notice an age gap when you’re great for each other. I really agree with everything you said at the end about our anti-marriage society, more and more children are being put in danger, and if 26 isn’t considered an adult then what about school aged children consenting to their genitals being mutilated?

I had to do a double-take cause this story is so eerily similar to mine and my husband’s 🤣 We also have 3 daughters, met while he was using his military benefits to go to college, and met when I was 19 (he was 29). Main difference is that my family was never a big fan, but that had nothing to do with the age gap, and everything to do with the fact that he could see right through their facade and has been very firm on putting boundaries in place to protect myself and the girls from them. There was a 26 year gap between me and my husband. He was the love of my life, after being widowed I never remarried because there was no other man who could have treated me as good or better than he did. He was my biggest supporter, he was a hard worker, he took me and my two sons and raised them as his own with no support from their bio father. He was just an amazing man I was blessed to have him in my life for 20 years before he died of cancer. The age difference just seemed to disappear we had so much in common. Im happy for you. My wife was 30 when we met. I was 47. So we had a 17 year gap but it was never ever an issue. It actually enriched us culturally since, for example, we shared music from different eras. In the end, things didn’t work out but, again, it wasn’t the age gap.
One amusing story where age perhaps got in the way: when her sister got married, all the couples were in their early 40s while I was in my mid 50s. I was getting tired, having helped set the wedding up, driving and picking things up. Then came the wedding and then the reception and then everyone wanted to go clubbing. Well, I’ll admit, I was ready to go to the hotel and crash but I refused to be the one to slow the party down. In the end, I was the last man standing. Ok, honestly, when I was 18, i thought a 5 year age gap was pushing the limit.. but now in my 30s, a 10-15 year age gap doesn’t seem like much. People mature at different ages and some people don’t mature at all. At 26, nobody “forces” you to get married or be in a relationship at all.
Yeah. At 24, I wouldn't be comfortable with most 18/19 year olds tbh. But I know that'll change as I'm older. As someone who has a 17 year age gap and been married for 20 years now, this is annoying. People used to make comments about my husband “robbing the cradle” and it made me mad because they knew nothing about us and just judged. I have always been an old soul and he was always younger at heart. We we’re friends first for a long time and he didn’t even realize our age gap was that much because I was always mature and looked older too. When we realized we had feelings for each other wasn’t weird at all! He wasn’t a creep! He broke up with me briefly when he realized the age gap because he was worried about it. My brother has an age gap with his wife (her being older), her daughter is my age actually. They never had children together because she already had her tubes tied before they started dating. My husband’s cousin has a very similar story with his wife. They’ve all been together a long time.

I met my wife in college after I decided I should use my school money from my deployment.
She was 19 when we met. I was 26. We dated for 5 years (actually we did have about 6 months separated).
Her one uncle hated me because he figured I had some agenda. Her parents loved me(still do), because they could see I wasn’t manipulating anything. I sincerely loved her(still do). Been going strong ever since. We have 3 daughters together.

I’ve seen people up in arms about an 8 year gap…my husband and I are 8 years apart. I was 19 he was 26 when we started dating and now they’re saying 19 is still a child? Im 20, i personally wouldn't want to be a child of you two, you'd be setting me up to lose my father in my mid to late 20s. My parents had me in their early 30s so that means i still have quite a bit of time with them left. Ill probably be in my 40s or 50s by the time i lose them. If i was your kid and i lost my father at that young of an age because of your age gap I'd blame you for setting me up to lose him early on.
