I am very scared Bluesky becomes a toxic place… but for now it’s very friendly, and even if it doesn’t last, and I know this sound cliche, but at least the memories we make on it will!
Honestly it just needs to not openly and actively pander to nazi's and it would be good enough.
From what I've already hears (although not confirmed myself) it already has toxic echo chambers. But hey so does twitter so maybe it's not worse

The question is if blueskys algorithm will favor toxicity like Twitter does, and as of rn it doesn't unless you go out of your way to interact with it
Thing with toxicity in communities is that when it's small. There's very few toxic people but once it gets bigger you have more and they'll breed more toxicity. Genshin is a good example. Not that bad at the start when it was of moderate size now it toxicity that breeds more.
Honestly, I'm so scared to lose the fandom interactions and connections I've made on twt and to start from scratch again but we simply can't keep uploading data and information on a site that doesn't respect its users at all :/
This. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be brought up to the forefront. More and more, we, as individuals of the internet...need to come together and fight for a better tomorrow. It is crushing how in vogue being "a meanspearited hateful person for hates sake" is overtaking too much of anything casual. I'm getting to where I can barely make a post on twitter without it getting....well, gunked up with shit that's got nothing to do with what I had said (I then have to delete the post, because it becomes too much). BlueSky may not be the "be all end all answer to it all" but...I mean, good lord... I am hella just livin' and doin' my thing... Heck, a ton of folks are. LET'S FIGHT FOR BLUESKY!💙

Just be aware that Nightshade and Glaze do different things to fulfill different purposes. And there’s a limit to its effectiveness (it’s not a permanent solution) and the teams behind each are aware and admit as much.

I don't think anything can ever truly replace Twitter (calling it X is too weird). Mastodon instances haven't. That one bee app didn't. Threads hasn't. Pillowfort hasn't either. And I don't see BlueSky replacing it either because there will never be a true replacement, in my mind at least.
I know people are worried about toxicity, and that's understandable - but people also have to utilize the filter settings given to them across all platform. Not every troll needs attention or to the quote treated either. Will toxicity ever go away? Probably not, I don't expect it to because people have simply gotten to comfortable with being disrespectful towards others online without any repercussions.
I like BlueSky's take on blocklists and moderation, it's pretty neat! So hopefully people will leave Twitter mindsets on Twitter and not bring them elsewhere. I also hope that you have a good time on there, Merry! Looking forward to seeing your posts!
Its a long shot to have blue sky be able to replace Twitter, but doesn’t hurt to seek alternatives it’s been more easy to see post from every VTuber there and unlike Twitter they don’t make ridiculous changes like that block feature. Ether way I’m happy to see more of Vtuber content than a certain political side, but will say we need blue sky to have a system when it comes to certain accounts that impersonate others.
If you truly want to do good in this world, regardless of the scale, you need to get into the mindset of doing the right thing regardless of what the peanut gallery might think, negative OR positive.
In a blank room that no one will ever know what happens in, would you put yourself at a loss do the right thing? Because that's often what needs to be done. Doing the right thing and feeling like doodoo about it.

So I joined Tumblr in 2017 along with Twitter, then proceeded to almost never use my Twitter account. Instagram mines for personal data so I couldn’t stay there either. I hope Bluesky can become my one true foray off of Tumblr. Tumblr is still a bit more comfortable than Twitter though, so if you’re a geek or neurodivergent/queer person I’d say Tumblr is always an option.

you're not wrong in believing it could work remember everyone starts off small.
Reminds me of a thing Charlie Chaplin once said "let us fight for a new world". Things will not change unless we cause the change for ourselves. I despise Twitter/X at it's core. We're seen as numbers and not as people. We are spoon fed that things need to be how Musk sees it, and that A.I art is the way of the future.
But to that I say "No". We all need to say "No" and make the world we want to live in. I know this sounds cheesy and preachy. But I loved all the Artists and Content Creators I've met these past few years, and I would don't want such beautiful talent to be replaced by machines. And have wonderful communities trampled by hateful groups.

Why does anyone care about blocked accounts seeing your posts?
You have them blocked so you won't see their messages and, if they want to poison themselves by looking at your posts with no way to engage, that's their problem.
Heck, let's say there was a reason why you wouldn't want them to see it. They can just make a new account to see your posts. You blocking them only inconveniences their actions, not stop them.
Like screw the forced AI, but I don't understand why this is always mentioned along with it with the same significance.

@stoopidbunnybo185 Regarding stalking, I guess, but I feel my other point still stands. Blocking only inconvenience. It doesn't stop it. Stalkers can easily make burner accounts.
As for cyberbullying/harassment, doesn't blocking prevent them from messaging you? What would seeing their post allow them to do to harass you?
I remember the good old days on DeviantArt that it was a place for all kinds of art and artists to express themselves for all to see, but then it was take over and a purge happened and pushed out some artists on Twitter. The same is happening on BlueSky, even the most safest SFW art is a no-go on BlueSky. Not to mention that the staff were former Twitter people so take it with a grain of salt that may or may not ban you on that site. Also some say it is being backed up by some Krypto kickbacks so be aware of that as well.
I honestly agree with you, Merry.....maybe hoping for warm and happy place....would be good for the soul....a fresh start. ❤
it really depends on what you're looking to get out of social media to begin with, i think. there are still forums and discord servers out there for your particular interests where you can connect and share with people, if that's what you're looking for. corporate platforms are more or less the only way to perform well as someone who's looking to make a career out of these types of things. but if you're simply looking to shout about yourself into the void, carving out your own space by building a website from scratch, no templates or anything like that, is the only way to go in my opinion.
as for bluesky specifically itself, it's a combination of factors. the egregious corporate control and nonsense going on with twitter's current owner, people wanting to hurt twitter out of spite by moving away from it, or simply wanting a fresh start that still feels familiar. each experience is different, and has different needs, and my dearest hope is that everyone who comes to bluesky finds what they're after there
I'm more worried that franchise accounts won't come to bsky so I still have to check X for some of their updates. Like FF11, and other game companies.
I really just want to ditch X/twitter. I don't have a huge following, and I have a penchant for being excited to "start over."
I have discord for keeping in touch with commission clients, so I don't have to worry losing engagement. However I do know that lots of people depend on the engagement to make money and sustain themselves. So I would never suggest this for them if they don't feel secure in it.
Someone has to take the first step. If everyone just followed everyone else, and never stepped outside, then we'd still be living in the cradle of humanity. Some of us are pioneers, and some keep strong at the home base, and both are important for prosperity!^^

Less than a hour after people started making the bluesky migration i saw people complaining about having less exposure. Also the toxic people will just go there too. Some may decide to stay there but i see the majority coming back to twitter.
I didn't know anything about Bluesky until my friends started to talk about it and made accounts there. Here's the problem with Bluesky: Bluesky is ran by Antis. They are not your friends. And Bluesky has more AI that can track you compared to X's Grok. I don't agree with Musk's plan to remove the block function cause it invites unwanted people to bother you, but X is better than what Twitter used to be before Elon's acquisition and Bluesky.

Sometimes big things can fail and fall. Tumblr thought the same thing and look at them now. We can only hope and pray that lots of us move to bluesky and see as twitterX sinks enough that only the hardcore weidos are all that's left so they can argue with each other til the heat death of the universe. But I guess that's wishful thinking.
Tumblr failed because it was held up by artists, Twitter is more general use. Meaning that most won’t care about the changes.

To be honest, the more fundamental issue is that both twitter and bluesky are privately owned platforms.
You’re not going to get private owned platform in the social media space. Most social media sites operate on very thin margins.
One problem is that Bluesky is even more vulnerable to AI bots because you don't need an account to see everything on it.
If you want to use Bluesky you basically have to stop posting art if you don't want it to be swipes by randos.
This is quite Interesting and true twitter be getting bad these days, and understandable hard to replace something that has stood for awhile from MySpace to Facebook to Tumbler, Twitter, instagram.. and Now BlueSky IOoOI👌
Twitter also got banned from other countries, so... maybe bluesky might be a good substitute ( especially since Twitter got toxic communities and staffs that are against vtubers)
