In production, most probably you would have multiple queues for a single service. It gives more reliability. A service has messaging queues and endpoints combined, also separated depending on the application. So we have to see the performance of the application as a whole

Gateway is a design pattern and rabbitmq is many of the possibilities with which we can implement the gateway pattern. So, I would say it’s not an alternative but one of many ways to follow gateway pattern.
