  • A beautiful walk up to the summit of Yr Aran . In sunny but windy conditions , join us on this stunning route where we meet a local shepherd , save someones hat and Austin falls over.

    Looks like all 3 of you had a brilliant day Austin, infact a great holiday all together. Weather and scenary superb but looks like you had a lucky escape, when you went over on your ankle mind. I do a lot of walking by myself and can go for hours without seeing anyone but anyone can have an accident, just got to cross your fingers and watch your feet. Really enjoyable watch Austin, thanks for letting me tag along, cheers Alan

    The shepherd is Hefin, his name is carved on his crook.
    He was born in the month of June, Mehefin in Welsh.
    He is employed by National Trust to prevent the sheep eating the large areas of cotton grass.
    When I was there, he was the subject of a piece Channel 5 are recording for a series in the Spring about uplands and lowlands.

    • @2FeetForward

      Met our friend Hefin yesterday on the Watkin Path.
      He is keeping an eye on the yearling sheep which are now on the mountain.
      The ewes and their lambs are not.
      He is in the first episode of Channel 5's 'Wild Britain'.
      I have not looked yet as you have to create an account and I don't trust anyone with my data.

      The Watkins is a fantastic way up Tina. It’s definitely a good work out as it’s the longest way up and starts at the lowest point . We love the start through the woods and the waterfalls a bit further up. The scramble at the end is ace as well and the cafe just down from the start is a welcome sight after a 1000m up and down 👍

    The left hand path up Cwm Llan, off Watkins Path just beyond waterfalls, is part of the Cambrian Way, that turn's right at Blwch Cwm Llan towards Mt Snowdon. From BCL you climbed to Yr Aran. There is another route to Yr Aran, from the West, which runs from Rhyd Dhu, leads right off to the South East, where the Rhyd Dhu path leads to Snowdon.

    Another great walk and video, i'm going throughyour back catalogue now, not in any particular order, just picking out which one from the title, its great to see Marley in his element again, it gives me confidence to take my own Marley out with me, although as a westie I am sure he would not be so nimble over the rocks, I do have 1 question, did Marley ever chase the sheep you suddenly come across?

    • @2FeetForward
      @2FeetForward  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re Marley would be fine they’re tough little dogs👍. Marley never did chase sheep but I’m sure he would have done if we hadn’t recalled him early on . He always had that collie instinct to round them up but he always listened thank heavens .

    Great walk that Austin and Lucy. No drone today but with an approach like that I don't think you needed it. It was every inch the picture. I must say I love your relationship with Marley and his with you. A fabulous partnership all round. Take care all. Mark.

      @2FeetForward  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark, too windy for the drone but i still lugged it up there just incase lol. Such a beautiful place . Yes Marley really is my best mate , even as i type this he's just plonked his ball down for me to throw out the shed door . We're thinking of camping out down your way tomorrow . Probably starting off from Tintern for a walk around the woods and camping somewhere near the Devils pulpit. Any advice would be welcome mate as we don't know how busy this area is for wild camping . Cheers mate .Austin + Lucy

    • @WyeExplorer
      @WyeExplorer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey guys, Love it....has to be the ball. I can see Marley keen as mustard. Good to hear your down the Wye Valley. I've camped a number of times around there but each time a stealth camp with Paul and solo. There is nowhere in particular. It is of course a long stretch of woodland and there are spots all over. You're safe if you find the right one and you may even find camp spots already set up - there are a good few. People use them woods. So all the best in finding a stealth camp spot - no doubt you'll get some footage up above. If you can remember my bro Paul as you fly. All the best to you all and have fun. Mark.

Just incase you missed it th-cam.com/video/4RLlnmdW7rw/w-d-xo.htmlm51s . i know all was up in the air at the time but i didn't want you to think we'd not remembered Paul . Take care mate . Austin , Lucy and Marley.

      @WyeExplorer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A pleasure to instill a little confidence in the area guys. You'll find the spot...just get the maps out and wander. It still is painful but I am accepting it as you must. If there is a chance to remember Paul I always take it...he was such a wonderful brother. Well, many thanks - I am watching that video now.

    A bit further along on that path seen at 4:21 is where they filmed the Khyber Pass scenes for Carry On Up The Khyber back in 1968. I went up there last May to check it out exactly 50 years later. Not surprisingly, it hasn't changed a bit!

      Hi there and thanks. I didn’t store the route for this one but you start at the beginning of the Watkin Path and turn off left to join the old rail track. It’s all marked on the 1:25 OS map and easy to follow (although we missed the turning talking too much lol). The cottage we stayed at is part of the Red Dragon Holidays cottages. They have a great range of options and are situated 1/4 mile from the Watkin path on the way to Beddgelert. You can book through their website here. www.reddragonholidays.co.uk/. Cheers and enjoy your trip 👍. Austin and Lucy. Ps . If your still unsure of the route , download this video to your phone and use it as a reference 👍.

      My Garmin Edge 1030 is bike specific and has been mind blowingly good . You can download routes or connect it to Komoot via your phone . If you haven’t got Komoot I’d recommend it and you can download it for free as an app. You can even hit a destination or type it in on the Garmin and it will take you there via legal off road tracks . The best thing is just heading out then when you feel like it just hit reverse route or back to start and you follow it back . You’ll never get lost again 🤞👍

    What an amazing hike!! I love the scenery there. Snowdonia is an amazing place. Thanks for taking us along on these treks.
    Marley found some friends!! In usually the one leading the scouts! And Marley also found some brothers/sisters! Watching a dog work is an amazing thing. We had an English Setter when I was young. She would hunt for quail and dove. Just amazing to watch her work a field. Marley didn't like it when Lucy went off because of his natural hearing instinct-he wants to keep you all together!!
    Looks like you had a great trip. Looking forward to more. My 12 year old is off to scout camp tomorrow. I'm seeing badges on his uniform as I watch videos-he's sized up a shirt. I'm joining them Thursday, but not before getting some time on the trails Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. I'll try to get some video!!
    All the best to you, Lucy & Marley!!

      It was a cracking day this one , too windy for the drone mind. I loved meeting the warden and his dogs , unfortunately that is Marleys one fault , he doesn't like other dogs. i've tried and tried to get him to socialise but no , he's a people dog .That guy is out there every day , what a life.
      I used to love scout camp in the woods . These trips make the best memories and shape kids tastes for the future , i bet you were a scout once ?
      Are you camping out on Wednesday night , great with these long nights . Look forward to the video .

    • @swatsullivan
      @swatsullivan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I was a Scout and now the Scoutmaster. We should have a great summer camp--the scouts are already there, and it sounds like great weather and a good time in the mountains.
      My plan Wednesday is to hike a small part of the Appalachian Trail that I have never hiked before (this will connect up some of my previous hikes, "cleaning up" a part of the AT in Virginia that is close by but that I have never hiked). So it will be about 11.5 miles southbound from a place called Humpback Rocks (plus one extra mile north to link up with the part of the AT I have already done south of the Paul Wolfe Shelter). Then I have to go 11.5 back, so it will end up being 24 miles total (12 miles per day). There seem to be a few good tent sites, so I will plan to camp somewhere along the trail. I hope ot be up there around 1 or 2pm to get started.
      Some great views from Humpback as well as some good overlooks, so I am hoping the forecast for clear skies holds true. If I can get back to the car early enough, I may even clean up a few miles further south on the trail Thursday morning. We will see!

      The Watkin Path is our favourite start to any walk up Snowdon , it is so scenic and the pools are spot on at the end of a hard walk .
      Funny you say that Andy , on a recent camp on Cadair Idris i managed to fall , fully clothed , boots and all, into the lake up to my chest . Again , not on film ! I really would loved to have seen it! Atb . Austin.

    Great vid! - Nearly made it up there a few years back from the Rangers track, took a right after a few hours and headed up.. but the daylight was fading so turned back. :)

      Thank you. it's a shame you didn't make it to the top but it's a good excuse to go back. We loved the quietness of it up there and the view of Snowdon was spectacular! Cheers . Austin and Lucy.

      Definitely will, and likely from the Watkin as we are familiar with that area. Proposed to the wife in the "pretty area" as you called it :)

      We can't recommend this one enough Tina and it's so quiet compared to Snowdon which looks great from here. Atb. Austin and Lucy.

    Wales and Scotland looks very similar i mean more than the Lakes , a harder more rugged landscape .Beautiful hike in A&L your doing Wales proud , great video as always , i missed Lucy's vlog but i know that's just an occasional thing.ATB !

      Yes there a definite similarity , that's why it's our favourite area , the Lakes are a little "softer" on the eye for want of a better word. It's a stunning approach . Maybe we can meet there next year , you never know , might get weather like this . Working on Lucy getting more involved but still haven't got the Sony yet but hopefully soon . Cheers !
