Good morning Navajo Grandma. Thank you for your sharing and teaching the culture of the Dine people. I have been thinking of the poor ones that do not have electricity or heat on the reservations. it is sad , I wish I could ship the mesquite fire wood I have growing here to them. I made your calzone recipe this last summer. Good stuff. yup Kids eat like you said, my 4 great nieces eat like men. Those girls are very active and athletic. I am still planning on making fry bread to honor native American month, probably tomorrow , syl wants something else today. We watched that video yesterday . also good stuff. mmmmmmm , Navajo Tacos. yum I pray , may God bless you, your family and all native Americans .
@dalericketson6461 Dale you are a unique spirit and always so kindly receptive. It's an honor to know you & Syl. I am so happy that you tried making this Calzone. I tell you it's very palatable. But I am a very simple dimple. I love grilled, peeled green Anaheim chili's or fresh cut onion sandwiches with Naneeskaadi the bread you cook on a rack on the coals. Kind of like grilled tortillas. It's something plain & lovely to me. Drinking it with Navajo Tea. By the way I have been so busy, I will mail out the Navajo Tea tomorrow to you. It's lovely & smooth with honey. Tell Syl Grandma loves her. When I show up she needs to be walking, jogging with Grandma and not to worry about her looks. If anyone needs to worry it's Navajo Grandma not her. Hugs to you both. I get frustrated but now taking the bull by the horns. Snow or not we walk, ride and pray harder. Remain active Dale. Pray always and maybe make a goal to get Syl up and walk outside here & there. Get her excited about life. Just my take. Take good care. We have 1 body, 1 life, 1 day at a time to be better than yesterday. Navajo Grandma

I gather up books on herbalism, foraging, trapping, hunting, raising animals, how to build sustainable shelters, gardens and water sources etc because it’s such a vast wealth of information that I wasn’t taught, but I recognize as valuable. Hi Sarah what a commendable comment you made. I love how you desire to know and learn many ways that are natural and healthy ways to live. That is all we knew on the reservation now that I look back. Nothing was chemically created, it came from foraging, from the ground, or the orchards naturally growing in the canyons, the herbs that use to grow that are all now eroded from ranchers cattle and horses, and the young navajo's and families who raise cattle and sheep and no one seems to have regard for each other anymore. Its like a possessiveness that is so evil to me. We use to share the land, there were no fences, it was all respect. The good old days and the wonderful books that were written of when people truly wrote how to survive. I remember for the longest time I had a huge thick book with every animal you could think of that existed in the United States in every state, that you had right before you how to catch, or set up traps for them, how to kill and clean and use herbs to fry, cook, steam or make soup out of the meat, how to salt and keep the meat, how to bottle and all the amazing goodness. I remember I threw it away. I seriously can't forgive myself as I shared these recipes with hunters and they were amazed at my knowledge which came from a cook book like recipes the how to book. It also had a section on foraging in every state, it was priceless. How I have wished I could find another book like that, but never have. It was a once in a life time and I told gpa that we should go to the Library of Congress and see if we can find that same book. I would have to live there practically to find it. I seriously have thought of that. Still I commend you again for all you desire to learn. I don't mind spending time with my subscribers but it also costs money to stay in a hotel, my grandfather's hogan fell in and the housing is gone. I have had some come and want to forage during certain parts of the season, or to just pick and make food. There are a minimal amount of Navajo foods or culinary foods made and now they are over rated culinary projects and the foods don't taste like they use to. Its just not the same. I tried to offer times to visit and no one was interested, only those who showed up and told me they were in town and I had to make room for them but spent wonderful couple of days and they were gone. So I don't know where you live, I have prayed for a hogan to be built, I have no home which I lost during the pandemic so I am no help.
