I've been ready to cut off or out an body parts I sinned with. This helps me understand Catholics better. I'm glad you feel I shouldn't have to call you or anyone else father.
No one has to call anyone anything. But in the Christian tradition even in the holy scriptures there is a precedent for the existence of spiritual fathers. That practice has continued until today. It's a big leap at least for me to go from protestant to orthodox. But I have learned a lot from the orthodox about Christianity. May our understanding increase for our good and in doing God's will.
Fr. Michael, I’m officially a Roman Catholic, although I’m a convert from a Presbyterian and Southern Baptist upbringing. But really, I’m not terribly religious, although I believe there must be a Creator, and I hope that Christianity is God’s magnum opus to the world. It’s such a beautiful message! Where I live in western PA, we have Byzantine Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Mennonite… I’m glad I stumbled on your channel via Jordan Peterson. And the Orthodox perspective you bring is very interesting! A lot like Catholic, but different! 😉 Subscribed! 🤙
There's ALWAYS going to be so-called believers running down other members of the body of Christ. I'm here after watching your video on youtube produced about Jordan Peterson and found your take on his comments refreshing. So, I subscribed, take care and be well Father.
Hey Father! Certainly if there is one trait that you convey in abundance it would be humility. Please don’t think you are scarce in that beautiful trait. I came to your channel through your analysis of a Jordan Peterson snippet. I’ve since viewed other of your offerings and I am quite compelled. My best wishes accompany you.
Thank you for that very fine clear exegesis of an on a commonly misconstrued eisegesis apparently. I will continue to meditate and study a little bit more Shortly to be reaffirmed of the entire correct spirit of the teaching. But thanks for leading me in that direction to do so. I have a Jewish, Baptist, and now for some time nondenominational faith.
Thank you father, been recently considering converting to Orthodoxy. Before watching this clip, I would he extremely hesitant to call you that title. Trying piece by piece to understand that certain protestant religions have falsely interpreted scriptures, and that Orthodoxy may have had the absolute most biblical view of tradition and church. Please pray for me, that Jesus would guide me in searching for truth. Still a protestant, but on the verge of conversion. Thank you
The people who make these comments are like a broken record. They have no other arguments to present because orthodoxy is the Truth. Glory to God in all things!
Dear brothers and sisters: what a blessing it is that we who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, abide in the shadow of the Almighty! Truly, there is no greater place for any of us than our being united in the Holy Spirit of our Heavenly-Father with Christ Jesus our King and Eternal-High-Priest of Righteousness. May the love of Christ Jesus flow over, through, and from us all, as He is the Everlasting-Wellspring of Life, from Whose Holy Spirit, being One with the Father, all are called to drink. Please understand that I am, and you are, nothing: in such a way that we are nothing more than vessels for the Holy Spirit to flow through in order that He, Christ Jesus/יהושוע, may be as the Fullness of the Father in us all: the credit anyone could ever give me and that I could ever give you is not ours, but God's alone. Therefore let us all give ourselves as payment on His altar: being as living sacrifices for the One who sends us all in His own mighty Name, by His own Power. Bless all, dear brothers and sisters, and may the Holy One of Israel be our refuge! What burden is there left for us to conquer which the Holy One who Lives within each of us has not already overcome? We are not to give the adversarial thoughts power which belongs only to the Living-God, dividing one amongst another through semantics with worldly understandings. For He alone knew the end from the beginning, and He has declared and does declare: It is finished! Forthwith, let each of us subject ourselves to the Power of our Father's Holy-Spirit by being imitators of the Perfect Love which He has shone-forth through Christ Jesus, that we who are in Him continually give all Glory and Honor to our Lord and to our God: that everyone may come to know True Love by experience, in harmony with our Heavenly-Father's will: His will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. So be it, friends, and may the Peace of our Lord Christ Jesus/יהושוע be with you all.
I so appreciate you. I can't deny I find your understanding of following the Way as exaltation of yourself above your brothers, and mothers. I am older than you and may or may not be as learned as yourself in His Holy Word and find irony in your understanding of Mathew when Christ is literally rebuking the Pharisees for their putting tradition above the understanding of God being first and our only True Father. I sincerely mean no disrespect and do love you all as Christ commanded so please understand I'm only following the narrow path of Truth, His Life and His only Way. May His grace always be on you all! Edification in Truth is worth asking, so please I would love dialog in understanding that we all here love Christ and are part of His Church , just trying to understand is all.
St. Stephen referred to the members of the Sanhedrin as "brothers and fathers" (Acts 7:2). If St. Stephen transgressed the Lord's command to call no man father, then why did the Lord honor St. Stephen after he had done this? (Acts 7:55-56)
Jesus said: when you pray pray to your Father he lt is that is in heaven And when you pray do so saying Our Father Which are in Heaven. Is Not Jesus' Father in Heaven Also. Together they are One *As are We.* John14:7,*20*. Shalowm
How many of you who are challenging Fr. Michael on this are living irreproachable Christian lives? How many of you are not having sex outside of marriage? How many of you are giving alms to the poor and fasting? I don't care what you are or are not doing but I have noticed many people who squeak about, 'call no man father' are not exactly doing 'everything' according to scripture yet they jump on this father issue... that is really not an issue, and make it out to be some huge crime. It is not. Even if we are all doing it wrong calling Fr. Michael, and other priests within Orthodoxy, 'Father'; can God's grace not also cover a respectful title given to another person as much as His grace covers real and actual grievous sins?
Matthew 16:23 comes into mind. I do understand, where the priests are coming from. But frim what i hear of jesus is it may be the enemy speaking . Even through peter, one of his disciples. So it is not in anyway to disrespect the priest. Its caution, out of love for our Father in heaven.
Jesus was not referring to fathers by blood but fathers referring to teachers, so as I understand it Jesus was saying teachers should not be referred to as “Father” Gods words are not hard to understand unless you are twisting scripture to fit your narrative
Let Jesus be true and everyman a liar. Especially when said man contradicts Christ. Obey Jesus's words above all men, even Peter or Paul if they contradict Jesus Call no man YOUR father. Means call no man YOUR father. The key here is YOUR Christians should have no personal possessions here on earth. Your possession is eternal. There is no more 'YOUR father', there is only 'OUR father' in Christ. The concept of personal possessions shattered Gods image '(mankind') into many pieces. Jesus came to gather the pieces back together in His image as Christ our Lord. To possess our place in eternity. We must disposes ourselfs of temporal personal possessions both, material and conceptual. To share as it were. So that we may resemble the bank of a flowing river of life , always recieving always giving, never keeping yet never lacking the waters from above. To share an identity in Christ, and truly reflect the unified image of God our one and only father. Love and peace Luke 14 :26-33
The apostle Paul also said long hair on men is disgraceful and it is not according to church doctrine but his own personal views, remember our faith is in Jesus not Paul, it is the gospel of Jesus Christ not Paul so authoritative doctrine is given from Jesus, I will not call my teachers Father as Jesus instructed so I will not be joining the Orthodox Church
If “your” father so am I. If Christ is in “you” and He is in me also why should you not call me “father” as well?.. Or do I need to spend a few grand to go to Catholic seminary to be “chosen” and called. Then I can get my little white dog collar and be called “father”. Furthermore; You base it off Abraham but yet claim that Peter is the OG of catholicism yet nothing is mentioned of “Peter” and “father”and you only use Abraham to justify it. So if Peter is the OG of catholicism and there is no reference to “father” with him but you use Abraham to justify it then how can you claim Peter started the Catholic faith? All the justifications I’ve read about this is absurd and a plain joke.
@@OrthodoxExperience Does it matter that your not Catholic? My question still remains… What basis do you have to be called “father”? Are we all not given the same grace? Are we all not a royal priesthood in one body? Where did Peter or Paul or anyone say to call them in a elevated way? Peter? Paul? Stephen? John the baptizer? James? Timothy? Or did they all take a position “less than” and decrease for the sake of Christ? Hopefully I can get more of a dialogue other than “I’m not Roman Catholic”. I look forward to your response.
pathetic rationalization of your clear disobedience to Jesus' command. I can even see and hear your reluctance to call yourself "father" as if some place buried inside of you is knowledge of the truth that you're sinning when you do so.
Luke 16:24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’

Thank you Father. God bless you.
